Are most actresses very very slim in real life?

I saw a well known actress a few days ago, standing behind her in the queue for a coffee. She was dressed down, however was clearly very pretty in person. However I was taken aback by how slim she was. I would say she was slightly taller than average, not a tiny person if you know what I mean. But so so slim. Do you think most famous actresses/singers etc are like this? Maybe I’m very naive.

I used to see Kate and her mother in Peter Jones sometimes and this was before the engagement. Kate is around 5' 8 (my height) and was slim but not emaciated. I saw her again about 2 years ago and was really shocked at just how thin she had become but her face had been botoxed and filled so it didn't look as bad as it probably would without that stuff. It isn't healthy. She was always slender but how she looks now is not good. You could count everyone of her ribs and see her sternum in that blue dress that she wore in Scotland recently! Yikes!

pinkpapaya · 05/06/2021 01:47

Also met Joan Collins - absolutely tiny in height and build!

toocold54 · 05/06/2021 01:53

Lots of green eyed monsters on the thread. If body swap existed there would be a queue outside the celebrities front door begging.

Most of the women on here have said they’re a healthy weight size 8-10.
I don’t believe in body shaming but I also don’t think it’s ok to think that unnaturally slim (or overweight) body types should be something that young girls aspire to be.

JanuaryJonez · 05/06/2021 02:11

The thin obsession spills over into normal zones too. My sister & DBIL both work in TV. They are lovely people who we enjoy spending time with but they have a very restrictive diet and over exercise, meaning they are minuscule!

I'm a size 12 and I feel like an alien now when
I stay over!

WisconsinRaw · 05/06/2021 02:39

I work in the industry and when I saw this thread I was all ready to say "yep most of them are thin". But some of the comments here are just ludicrous.

Outside of Hollywood most actresses are slim, not super skinny. I've worked with some of the people mentioned on this thread and they're normal sized; certainly not fat but not tiny or super skinny. I've worked with Andrew Scott a few times and never noticed anything out of the ordinary about his body or size. He's not tall but you certainly wouldn't meet him and think "God that guy is skinny!" Met Helena Bonham Carter in a child-related rather than work-related context and she didn't look any different from any of the other mums, apart from in terms of dress sense. Nigella Lawson has a beautiful curvaceous body, not thin. And while she's not been mentioned here I have a photo of me with Kate Fleetwood where she's twice the size of me. (She's slim but also tall and broad.)

Yet posters are talking about these same people as being emaciated and so tiny they're the size of Barbie dolls, that they must wear dolls clothes, looking like pre-pubescent children, so miniscule they make posters who are somehow all a size 8 look like giants. Come on. No they don't.

MynahBird · 05/06/2021 02:48

Friend of mine is a successful Hollywood actress. She's MINUTE. Like the size of a six year old.

lolacola77 · 05/06/2021 03:00

@mynahbird. Is she aye?

bevelino · 05/06/2021 03:59

There is pressure for women in the public eye to maintain an unhealthy low weight. One of my dds closest friends has had anorexia since she was 15 but talent agents love her small size.

faithfulbird20 · 05/06/2021 04:13

Camera adds 10 pounds.

Veterinari · 05/06/2021 04:50
@WorraLiberty no lard arse is an insult. Saying a woman is fat is not an insult.
So many celebs are far too slim because the industry expects unhealthy weights in women. It is not wrong to notice this. And most of the famous celebs have photos online of when they were newer to the industry looking slim, but healthily so. Kate Middleton looked slim and healthy before she got married.
Whereas 'lollipop head' is a benign descriptor?
Aye, right

Musication · 05/06/2021 05:10

I've also seen Kate Middleton and she is unbelievably thin (especially for someone who has 3 children!) I feel like I am fairly slim at 5'6 with a BMI of exactly 20 but I looked giant compared to her

SpeakingFranglais · 05/06/2021 05:30

Yes, I think lots of TVs people are.

Saw carol vorderman when she was on Countdown, much prettier in RL and very petite.

SarahBellam · 05/06/2021 05:39

@Ostara212

X post I find Liz Hurley to be very beautiful but her thinness made me a bit uncomfortable, I feel like she must be hungry all the time. I can't put my finger on why. I have a manager who is skinny and just constantly eats carbs but I feel like Liz H wouldn't do that.
I remember reading that Liz Hurley uses children’s cutlery to make her feel like she’s eating more than she really is, and I’ve felt quite sorry for her ever since. It must be really tough getting older when your job depends on you looking young and thin.
AdriannaP · 05/06/2021 06:00

Yes. I met several actresses who were incredibly slim.
Also met Sophie Ellis Bextor and Amanda Holden, both very slim. Amanda Holden actually always looked immaculate (met her through work several times), perfect skin and hair.

BlueTriskel · 05/06/2021 06:08

@NewbieSM

I'm quite disappointed in the tone of some of the comments on this thread, why do you think it's ok to discuss strangers weight in such a judgemental manner? If we were discussing fat people's weight and guessing what they eat, there would be uproar!

Tbh some of the comments come off as projecting the posters own weight insecurities..

Not very nice at all.

And you don’t think it’s a strange coincidence that women in the public eye are so likely to have very low BMIs?
theweebabydonkey · 05/06/2021 06:17

This thread is actually making me feel better. I was on tv the other week (nothing exciting) and when I watched it back I couldn't believe how much bigger I looked Grin

LizziesTwin · 05/06/2021 06:25

Sophie EB doesn’t look too thin, she looks lovely in real life (neighbour so see her a lot). There are other actresses I know who live locally who are very slight but I’m not going to name them.

Roonerspismed · 05/06/2021 06:25

Well if they can have kids, they can’t be too thin as the body shuts down fertility first.

Most of the women mentioned here have had kids just fine.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 05/06/2021 06:26

I stayed at the same ski resort as Geri Halliwell a couple of years ago and I was shocked at how tiny she was. In proportion but really short and slim. I always thought of her as being the more voluptuous one. She’s not IRL.

LizziesTwin · 05/06/2021 06:29

@Roonerspismed you don’t know that they haven’t had fertility treatment, either IVF, IUI or drugs to help them ovulate.

LunaTheCat · 05/06/2021 06:30

@DameLucy

I got chatting to a soap actress in a bar in Dubai a few years ago. When I commented how slim she was she just shrugged and said oh I just have all my fat sucked out every few months 🤷‍♀️ I was like 😳
That is truly awful!

Geri H has publicly spoken of her bulimia. There’s a reason some of these women are so thin.
Eatingsoupwithafork · 05/06/2021 06:34

@VVKills27 surprised by the JLO one, I’ve read numerous times that shes a US size 6 (size 10).

Kezzie200 · 05/06/2021 06:36

I remember seeing Joanna Lumley. I didn't particularly notice her size but she had an amazing presence, and that was just walking down the high street! She was dressed so chic, is so tall and just so graceful. I was extremely envious!

Thewinterofdiscontent · 05/06/2021 06:40

FFS No way is “lollipop head” an insult in the way “lard arse” is.

Lollipop head is a visual description. Lard arse is a loaded insult.

Lollipops are benign or nice even

 • lard is a particular type of fat ( pig, also used as an insult to fat people).

“Head” is a benign term.
Arse is the more vulgar term for a bottom (also a sexual area commonly used to objectify women)
