I think my Husband is dying

Hi

DH had a planned surgery on Thursday which went wrong; he had a catastrophic bleed which lead to his chest being opened and a long time to stabilise. He's on full life support but they are very, very concerned that he has few signs of brain activity.

He's in a good hospital with an amazing team around him, we didn't expect him to last over Thursday night and they've kept him going but I am slowly realising that I think he's gone.

Fuck. What do I do without him? We have an 11 yo DD who is awesome and friends but I feel so alone. So much panic.

Sorry for unloading, just feels incredibly surreal.

I am genuinely so thankful for your lovely support and kindness, thank you.

I am v lucky to have good friends and family around, my in laws are here too, so we're all supporting each other but sometimes those thoughts get in and just overwhelm me.

I dread knowing more and dread not knowing in equal measure.

This is a horrific thing for you and your daughter, and of course your husband, to be going through. Waiting can be absolute hell. You'll wonder how to get through it, but you will.

My very best thoughts with you all for a positive outcome Flowers

Oh Dolly I am so very sorry.

Keeping you in my thoughts. Keep posting if you need company, there is always someone here through the night.

Would you like to tell us about your dh. How long have you been together?

💐

BillieSpain · 25/05/2021 19:40

I am so sorry @DollyParsnip, it's important not to give up hope.

I nearly died and was in a coma 5 years ago, in ICU. DH was told I would die.

@Mumtofourandnomore I remember absolutely everything that was said around me and to me at the time. Vividly. Hearing is the very last thing to go. I am certain your DMum heard you and I am certain the OP's DH can hear her.

Much love @DollyParsnip Flowers

scaredsadandstuck · 25/05/2021 19:43

I'm so so sorry. I hope you have some real life support you can call on. Flowers

Do the team caring for him have a plan for the next few days? Have they talked to you about it?

I used to work on a cardiac ITU and it can be very daunting / frightening. How is your daughter?

I hope you are resting as much as you can. Talk to your DH - he may be able to hear you.

Sending lots of love x

Livingtothefull · 25/05/2021 19:51

Thinking of you and your family today.

DollyParsnip · 25/05/2021 19:56

Thank you so much, you are all brilliantFlowers

I am definitely talking to him, about all sorts - the nurses make me so teary as they are always chatting to him about what they're doing and everything, it's bizarrely quite lovely!

The plan is to keep waiting and seeing; his chest needs closing at some point then gradually more should become clear. He started to pee today which is really encouraging!

DD is just awesome, she is aware of everything (mostly) but is being well supported by her school and her friends and I've said she can talk to me about anything, if I cry it's not because she's made me upset.

Trying to take it gently for all of our sakes.

Thank you again for such wonderful messages xx
