Well, it would be specific to your school or area, surely?

Besides that, first check the uniform policy.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/05/2021 09:37

When I was at school, everyone wore shoes like these:

My parents always made me go to Clarks for my shoes in primary and they tried to carry that on in secondary. I refused!

I know this feeling and went on my local fb page to ask the same. The top answers are kickers or DMs - but my daughter has narrow feet so they are out for us. We have got Startrite Brogues Senior Shoes. (My daughter chose patent as she loves patent. I did check that's not completely off for secondary girls...apparently it doesn't matter some girls have them some don't.)

But a friend gently pointed out to me that I should be raising my child to wear what she likes with confidence and not worry about others. She has a point. I just remember desperately wanting to not be different at 11.....(by 14 I wanted to be as different as I could be....but that's another story).

I've no photos sorry but most of the secondary girls in our area wear ballet style pumps. Vivienne Westwood pumps are very popular.

idontlikealdi · 20/05/2021 09:39

Check the uniform policy first. Kickers aren't allowed at our school.

ALevelhelp · 20/05/2021 09:40

My nieces wore brogue shoes, or those slip on ones with the frilly bit on top (very technical). They weren't allowed dolly shoes at their school

Ducksurprise · 20/05/2021 09:41

beingatwat has confirmed what 001 wrote. In my child's school no one would wear shoes like that.

Dd wears these www.clarks.co.uk/c/Scala-Lace-Youth/p/26142825

I don’t think ballet type flats are a thing these days are they? Certainly not in my area anyway.

Zinnia · 20/05/2021 09:42

These are DD's actual shoes (Y8 have PE today so she's wearing trainers!). They are Kickers. To my mind they are black leather trainers, but they comply with the school's fairly stringent shoe policy so we're OK.

I started her in Y7 with what to my mind were really nice chunky brogues from Start Rite (which others of her friends had too) but she begged for the Kickers this year!

Our secondary school has photos of acceptable school shoes on their website, together with strict criteria. You need to start with the regulations of the school she will be attending or you will be in danger of wasting a lot of money.
Then if you want to know the current popular options, take a walk near the school at the end of the day and see what they are all wearing as they flood out.

Those are the exact shoes I wore in the 2010s. It was 50/50 with flats and doc martens/brogues. I do think you should encourage her to wear what she likes within the rules, none of the options will stand out in any way at all because plenty will have chosen ones that they like too.
dementedpixie · 20/05/2021 09:50

Dd has these and has worn similar for years

Yeah: I'm not posting pictures of my child's school shoes for you Hmm

Mine wear trainers or converse to school. You can google that and look at them on a store website.

reluctantbrit · 20/05/2021 09:53

DD has something like this

www.paresfootwear.co.uk/Girls-Shoes/School/327658/Angry-Angels-Matilda-73327-Black-Leather

She has to walk around 40 minutes each way so she needs comfortable shoes. Ballet flats are not suitable. Most girls have either the same as DD has or more substantial slip ones like this

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 20/05/2021 09:56

@Zinnia my DS wears similar in primary school but the secondary school has said that type of shoe isn’t acceptable. It has to be ‘full black shoes, not trainer style’. The ones I have seen online so far look absolutely disgusting so I don’t know which to buy him. They’re what we used to call shit flickers at school, charming I know.

InflagranteDelicto · 20/05/2021 10:14

Both dds have doc martens. Plain black lace ups. Dd1 is in y10 and on her second pair so I consider them value for money too.

When I've had to catch the train to/ from work the majority of girls have dms.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 20/05/2021 10:18

DD is in yr9. She wears brogues like in dementedpixie's link. DM shoes and Kickers (permitted) are also popular, and I see the odd loafer as well.

Excilente · 20/05/2021 10:22

dd is in something similar to this - www.paresfootwear.co.uk/Girls/School/289887/Ricosta-Beth-85201-090M-Black but she struggles with laces (dyspraxic)

they aren't allowed ballet flats at her school.

I have 2 DSD in secondary - both wear shoes similar to this: www.next.co.uk/style/ls127600/L14673#L14673

AnnieAnoniMouse · 20/05/2021 10:25

The local senior schools here all seem to wear the ones similar to the ones that BeingATwatItsABingThing posted.

But at DC school they seem to wear brogues more. Year 10 is wearing something more like these -(not the heel the standard brogues have as she doesn't like them. She chose them before going to this school, not to fit in though, as it's what she prefers. 🤷🏻‍♀️I imagine at the local senior schools she'd be ripped to shreds though (doesn't wear much make up, occasionally an eye liner (her choice), doesn't use a hand bag as a school bag etc).

If it's a local senior school & she want to 'fit in' then ask on a local group or park
Outside the school at closing time.

I was a bit concerned she wouldn't 'fit in'. She didn't give a toss & carried on wearing the ones she likes🤷🏻‍♀️🤣. They just happen to be the popular style at her new school

Here

Sorry should have added - they've worn this similar style of slip on slip off all through primary

Oh yeah, I should have specified that I left secondary school in 2010. Grin I would have been astounded if those shoes were still popular now.

Black Airforce 1s for a lot of kids around here
