@onemouseplace DD has a puffa/fluffy hoodie one from Asda as a winter coat and this from Uniqlo as a lighter coat. Her bag is a light-up one from sport direct, she was really chuffed when a year 8 asked her about it and said it was cool Grin.

@tywysoges DD would LOVE that galaxy bag! Sold!

FakeColinCaterpillar · 20/05/2021 17:58

Is this for primary? Please don’t buy slip on shoes. I think it’s so unfair that you see boys in shoes suitable for running about and girls in ridiculous slip ons.
Does anyone really judge shoes? I used to buy DD the most robust looking pair I could find, I don’t think anyone ever commented.

Sorry just seen it’s year 7. DD has black brogues.
Does your DC have to walk to secondary as I would keep that in mind that they need to be suitable for all weathers.

tywysoges · 20/05/2021 18:07

@onemouseplace yay Smile - DD got hers at the beginning of year 6 so it’s lasting well for the price even though she didn’t use it for 6 months or so, I’m sure it’s got a couple of years left in it. The only issue is that it’s not very waterproof if it’s really tipping down, so we bought rain covers. Older children seem to have black bags, but not sure what brand.

SE13Mummy · 20/05/2021 18:11

My Y7 DD wears these DM shoes. Her narrow-footed older sister has had DMs like these. Their school recommends DMs or Kickers and doesn't allow ballet pump style shoes to be worn.

DinosApple · 20/05/2021 18:24

DD1 has brogues, most of her friends do too from what I gather.

School bag is a back pack from sports direct in black and white. Coat- she has a padded warm JL parker, navy with spots, light jacket is a regatta navy one too.

She'd happily wear bright coloured things but I will give her more choice heading into year 8.
She seems to have been mostly judged for not having an iPhone 🙄 (I don't either, hence no hand me downs for her).

pontiouspilates · 20/05/2021 18:25

My DD wears black DM shoes for school

LockdownCheeseToastie · 20/05/2021 18:29

Polishable Black shoes that cover the whole foot only here (no boots) so lots of brogues and DMs.

SE13Mummy · 20/05/2021 18:31

@onemouseplace both my DDs have Eastpak rucksacks as do many of their friends. Kanken bags are the other popular brand. Their school requires the bag to be plain but doesn't specify a colour (although I've noticed this year's Y7s seem to have got away with patterned rucksacks, possibly because they didn't get to attend the uniform fashion show/welcome meeting last year).

In terms of a coat, check what the school uniform policy says. My DDs' have to be black or navy blue and because they walk to/from school, I am keen for the coats to be waterproof. Y7 DD has this Trespass Fame Parka which has been perfect. The fluff can be removed so she tends to leave that at home on rainy days.

Ours bans anything that looks like trainers, kickers, DM boots (shoes are okay)

olivo · 20/05/2021 18:35

Y7and y10 DDs both wear patent Mary Janes, as do many in their school. No trainers allowed and no ballet flats.

Puffinhead · 20/05/2021 18:49

Two DDS - Black Nike airforce 1. (Larger child sizes so about £50).

@AlwaysLatte

Oh gosh, I read some of the comments. Do people really think that about shoes?? Disturbing.
There has been a school shoe troll on here for years and years. The plimsoll troll.
RevolvingPivot · 20/05/2021 18:57

I wish I knew what the others wore. I don't think anyone in her year has bought school shoes for next year as I know it's a bit early.

RevolvingPivot · 20/05/2021 18:57

@SavoyCabbage But didn't he / she ask for photos of used shoes.

I’m a teacher at a secondary school. I’ve been asked this question so many times! I have been spying on all the footwear trends. On our area it’s Nike air 270s and converse. Vans are also acceptable. As are Airforce 1s. I’m sure it varies from area to area though. Hardly anyone wears shoes here.

RevolvingPivot · 20/05/2021 19:05

@MazDazzle Thank you. I think our schools must be similar. I don't think anyone wears most of the shoes posted here.

OP posts:
RevolvingPivot · 20/05/2021 19:10

I don't like the look of the 270's I much prefer air max but if that's what they all wear then I'll get whatever she wants.

SavoyCabbage · 20/05/2021 19:13

No, he just likes talking about them. A lot.

Pieceofpurplesky · 20/05/2021 19:38

@RevolvingPivot the only pair of those three that would be allowed at my school is the middle pair, the boots and the trainers wouldn't. Our stipulation is full shoe, no logo and must be cleanable (ie not canvas or trainers).

RevolvingPivot · 20/05/2021 19:39

@SavoyCabbage Ah. Ah I've never come across him.

@UCOinSteveArnottsPants

Dd wears these www.clarks.co.uk/c/Scala-Lace-Youth/p/26142825

I don’t think ballet type flats are a thing these days are they? Certainly not in my area anyway.

DD wore those from Y7 and 8 and then moved on to some patent leather loafers for Y9 & 10 (which she barely got to wear due to Covid!)

I suppose this is why I need to speak to mums of kids already at this school but I only know 2.

I guess all schools differ. I've been told by 1 mum that they can wear trainers but they must be all black. I'm hoping she will have a transition day but she has SEN so I'm not sure she will remember what she's told.
