Hi I know this is odd but I want my dd to fit in with everyone. She starts school in September.

Thanks x

It was probably about 3 years ago and I haven't seen them since - I wanted to buy a pair for myself!

Lots of kids wear all black Adidas or Nike. The ones that wear proper shoes usually go for brogues, or Doc Marten lace ups or T Bars. DD (15) wears patent chunky T Bars, similar to Docs, but less expensive as we can't run to the real thing.
In yr7 most kids wore brogues or leather Adidas Superstars.

Our rules just say completely black, closed toe, no coloured logos, no excessive heel and no boots. The no boots thing I've always found bizarre.

@RevolvingPivot

I've checked the policy it just says black shoes but I've been told by mums of kids that are there that they can wear all black trainers.
I would confirm this with school. It could be they’ve just never been called out on it, or possibly a temporary relaxing of the rules because of the uncertainty around Covid just now. By September (ha ha) things may be back to normal and it’s back to closed in leather (or veggie alternative) polishable shoes and no trainers or boots. Check before you spend!

RevolvingPivot Got these ones. They're pricey (the kids version are cheaper but only go up to size 3) but have lasted 3 years and still look good as new. I'm about to do the same for DD2 who starts in September.

Secondary teacher here - I haven't seen girls wear ballet flats for many years! It's DMs or brogues or plain black trainers.
The fashion for Uggs seems to have died.

@flashylamp

Yeah: I'm not posting pictures of my child's school shoes for you Hmm

Mine wear trainers or converse to school. You can google that and look at them on a store website.

I wouldn't put my child in trainers or Converse for school. Surely NOT uniform policy anywhere as terribly bad for developing feet no?

Erm, ok. That's fine. You don't have to. OP asked and I answered. You don't have to challenge what I do, you can simply reply to OP with what you do.

What do you mean 'surely NOT uniform policy anywhere' as if I send my kids to school in shoes they are not allowed to wear, even worse, you think I am advocating people ignore a uniform policy Confused

As for them being 'terribly bad' for their feet? Any shoe can be bad for your feet. It's the fit, not the brand, that is important.

InflagranteDelicto · 23/05/2021 13:15

For breaking in DMs use Roald Dahl's ice trick. Bag of water in each shoe, freeze. Repeat as necessary. Took 2 or 3 goes to soften the heels of dd2's sufficiently.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 23/05/2021 13:32

I definitely think you need to be really sure re uniform policy-

None of my DC would have been allowed to wear any of the trainers pictured here.

Is there a Facebook parents group for the specific school? that might be worth a try.

Because to be perfectly honest the trends and things allowed seem to vary widely and what really matters is your what your DD's school allows and what trends her cohort follow.
