Tomorrow is DC4’s First Holy Communion, weather isn’t looking too bad for afternoon tea in the garden... there will be cava and cake consumed

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/06/2021 22:15

Helena All very enjoyable day to your DC and all of you!

Frownette · 25/06/2021 22:45

@MissConductUS well you made your decision and it's one which suits you. I'm very much with Kierkegaard on this one and say to label me is to negate me.

I haven't been up to much this evening, bought a musical biscuit from Fortnum and Mason for mother La Traviata. Then listened to the Trumpton rave song and forwarded it to my fireman friend Grin

Frownette · 25/06/2021 22:46

Sorry I meant a musical biscuit tin not a singing biscuit Blush

MissConductUS · 25/06/2021 22:55

Prok, it was fine and a lovely thing to say. To be honest, I'm pretty impressed that I was able to do it too. It gets much easier after the first year or so.

@Frownette, I wasn't trying to label you. Apologies if it came across that way.

Welcome, @dopeyduck, and thanks for your toddler news. What podcast do you fancy? By the way, I'm a Yank, so be patient with me. Smile

Helena - congratulations on the FHC and best of luck with your garden party.

My lilies have started to bloom. I'll post a picture tomorrow.

@MissConductUS listen to your own narrative and do not let anyone put you down. You didn't do anything wrong.

I think house purchase is finally going ahead, I will be able to get all my stuff out of storage. It's been nearly 2 years with COVID I will cry quite a lot being reunited with my things

Silkiecats · 26/06/2021 00:57

Hope the house purchase goes well Frownette and enjoy your 🎶 biscuit.

Welcome DopeyDuck and hope you had a nice snuggle together, I miss doing that with DS.

Frownette · 26/06/2021 07:49

Thanks Silkie

My mother wants a musical biscuit tin for her birthday next week. I ordered it from Fortnum and Mason and it plays La Traviata. I hope it runs out pretty soon otherwise I'll get sick of listening to it. So we'll have to have Champagne next week and musical biscuit tin then after that I'm going teetotal.

I really thought after I left DH that I would eventually meet a companion. I am just not interested in anyone anymore and want to be left alone. It was a hard realisation to come to.

Silkiecats · 26/06/2021 08:02

You need a Maine Coon cat 🐈 Frownette

SimonJT · 26/06/2021 08:16

I quite like the idea of a singing biscuit.

My son is having his birthday party today, I agreed to do one of the London zoo parties, as I’m clearly stupid I agreed before looking at the price.

Champagneforeveryone · 26/06/2021 10:42

Good grief simon, I just googled ZSL birthday parties. I guess you will be checking before agreeing in future Grin

MissConductUS · 26/06/2021 11:58

Frownette, I felt the same way for almost two years after my first marriage ended, then changed my mind about it. Life goes on.

We have to leave in about two hours to pick cherries. I'm up early to ride the bike, wash the bath towels and possibly get in a quick grocery shop before we have to go. It's not a lovely morning. It was drizzling when I took this picture of the lilies. It looks like they'll be lovely this year.

Miss Lilies how lovely!
I have been 'productive' - due to the interesting construction of our bathroom I needed to clean the drains again. The young couple who planned this flat 30 years ago only had a rudimentary idea about the behaviour of waste water.

Spudlet · 26/06/2021 12:42

Hello everyone. I know I haven’t been around for a while, but as you were so lovely when Spuddog got ill I wanted to pop back in to tell you that we lost the old boy this morning. He collapsed on a walk yesterday and we decided that he’d had enough, bless him. Right before the point that he collapsed I was thinking how happy he looked, so at least he didn’t suffer for ages - but he’s been gradually declining for a little while now and I think we’d got to a point where his quality of life was just getting too low.

We are absolutely gutted - DS doesn’t really understand, but DH and I made a bit of a spectacle of ourselves in the vets car park. It’s only the second or third time I’ve seen DH cry in 10 years. We will miss our lovely Spuddog so very much.

Anyway, I just wanted to update the thread and say thank you for the support you gave me when he was ill. X

Silkiecats · 26/06/2021 12:51

Hope your son has a lovely birthday Simon

Flowers Spudlet Hope Spuddog is happy in doggy heaven now.

Lovely lilies MissC they are much taller than the ones we get here.

MissConductUS · 26/06/2021 12:55

@Spudlet, I am so, so sorry for the loss of your lovely friend. I do think that when you lose a beloved pet, you lose a piece of your heart, but you have been given a piece of theirs, which helps make you as loving and generous as they were.

If you find some comfort here, please visit from time to time.

I am sorry for you and yours spudlet.

Sunbird24 · 26/06/2021 13:25

Aww, sending massive spuddy hugs, what a sad day for you all. Flowers

Champagneforeveryone · 26/06/2021 13:39

So sorry spud, though it's the right thing to do it never gets any easier Flowers

MissConductUS · 26/06/2021 13:50

We're off shortly to pick cherries. I did not get to the grocery store this morning. Had I gone DH and DS would still be asleep. We can stop there on our way home from taking my MIL out to dinner tonight.

Just in case anyone is stressing about it, I am aware that we are very close to filling this thread and am monitoring it.

He had a lovely, happy life Spudlet. Keep that in mind.

I saw a kingfisher for the first time the other day. No time to get a picture - it just whizzed past above the river.

HildaTablet · 26/06/2021 15:00

I'm so sorry to hear your news, Spudlet. You loved him very much.

MissConductUS · 26/06/2021 17:57

Welcome, @WildRosie, and thanks for your avian news.

The sun came out and we had a nice drive up to the farm and the weather was perfect for picking cherries. The cherry orchard is quite a distance from the entrance, so they provide a tractor-pulled passenger wagon to take people out there and back. I was thankful as it minimized the stress on my dodgy hip.

As you can see, the cherries are huge. They are also delicious. When we went to the farm store I was a bit disappointed that they only had one loaf of apple caramel bread, so I got a loaf of blueberry bread as well.

We'll take my lovely MIL some of the cherries when we go over there tonight to take her to dinner.

Morose pidgeon tried to enter my living (well office) room.

dopeyduck · 26/06/2021 20:15

@MissConductUS - last nights podcast was Louis Theroux's Grounded. Not something I would usually go for but was highly rated and it was interesting. Worth a listen if anyone is lost for inspiration.

Today was another day just DS and I as DP slept after work and then had friends to see. We played in the park & despite my best efforts at bribery he went into the splash fountains and got very wet and very cold! Once dry we fed the ducks and walked into town. Had his feet measured and thankfully he hadn't gone up a size so saved me from the brink of bankruptcy having to buy new shoes for another month or two so that was good.

Treated him to a coffee shop stop before we walked back. He found a tennis ball abandoned outside the courts that provided great entertainment for a while.
