Well, it appears that DM would now be classed as "a bit of a racist"

Not in an awful, BNP type way, but she has repeatedly referred to a neighbour as "coloured" despite explanations that this is no longer appropriate. There's also been several frankly close to the knuckle impersonations of a German friend, coupled with an explanation of "well, she is German"

Thankfully we are now no longer in public, and she has just revealed that she has not got a will

In happier news, our Christmas twig looks lovely Smile

HelenaJustina · 25/06/2021 06:38

I was at work for 10.5 hours yesterday, I was paid for 7 of them! It’s been one of those weeks... here’s to a better day today! It’s been very calming this morning catching up on Chinese food, wabbits, and turning into our mothers.

IWanderedLonely · 25/06/2021 07:42

My lovely yellow roses are flowering. They were already here when we moved in (20 years ago). They have survived DH' brutal attempts to kill them pruning sessions and my clueless neglect and return every year.

They're beautiful wandered Flowers

We're going to IKEA, to see how much havoc DM can cause in another county.

Frownette · 25/06/2021 08:02

Simon I'm not up to any murdering, sorry. I'll try to work myself up to it and make a half hearted attempt.

Silkie I'm starting to get tempted towards a wabbit. Is yours unusually lively..?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/06/2021 10:37

Iwandered Roses are way more robust than they get credit for. Yours are lovely.

My day off today, I sit and listen to the birds enjoying by plants.

Silkiecats · 25/06/2021 11:00

I'm not sure if wabbit is unusually lively for a male house wabbit, I think he is unusually cuddly but the boys normally get up to mischief, follow you around and bounce around. They are quite messy, I just watched a video of another male house rabbit to see if ours was unusually untidy but nope her one went into the recycling bin and distributed the papers all round the house. They do need constant company and are a bit hit and miss with litter trays.

Both kids are at school and its sponsored walk in the rain day today in non-uniform. DS actually wore non-uniform, normally he insists on uniform and gets cross about non-uniform days which he says are schools ripping people off. He also used to get very worked up about school trips which were also schools ripping people off and he used to refuse to go on any costing more than £4 as he wasn't being ripped off. Grin He managed to negotiate his lunch down to 50p a day Blush at school.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/06/2021 13:03

silkie I like your DS - mine used to be a bit like that.

DD's GP called - now she's got an earlier vacc app. at theirs one house over. The first app. was halfway accross town - 2,5 h saved.

Frownette · 25/06/2021 13:29

Prok I haven't had my second jab Blush I have to have monthly blood tests anyway but my platelets dropped alarmingly after the first jab so that made me nervous. I tried to seek medical advice but they couldn't tell me either. I think I just need to go and get it done no matter how miserable it makes me and all the headaches.

Frownette · 25/06/2021 13:30

It's a huge centre and brilliant coffee van outside so I'll enjoy seeing him again and have a flat white

MissConductUS · 25/06/2021 13:42

Your roses are lovely, Iwandered. My DH took a week wacker to mine a few years ago. To be fair, they had started to block the walkway adjacent to the flower bed.

DS had some good news from uni yesterday. He would normally be required to do an internship over the summer in addition to his full time internship in the spring. Yes, they are very big on internships. He was having a bit of trouble finding one that was a good fit, which is why he was talking to the company in Cambridge that wanted him to work half days through the fall. The good news is that he worked so many hours beyond the requirement for his spring internship that they've agreed that the excess hours cover his summer requirement as well. This is good as he was getting quite stressed about it. He's taking two on line courses from his uni over the summer so it won't be a summer of complete sloth and idleness. He worked really hard over the spring so I think it's fine that he has some downtime.

My surgery is in less than two weeks, so we decided to return to the farm tomorrow to pick cherries. I plan to pick up two loaves of their delicious apple caramel bread so that I can freeze one.

I'm almost done watching Atlantic Crossing. I've thoroughly enjoyed it, despite the fact that a third of it is in Norwegian with English subtitles. I had no idea what role Princess Martha played in the war or of her relationship with FDR.

MissConductUS I'm with University of Michigan at present Grin

Then switch back to UK. I love cherries. I honestly don't know what I'm doing at the moment, I dislike where I live so am trying to get all the paperwork together. City doesn't work for me.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/06/2021 14:05

Frownette Tough decision (don't let the qualitiy of the coffee influence you)!

DD is worries that poss. side effects might interfere with her exams.

MissConductUS · 25/06/2021 14:08

Frownette, what are you doing with the University of Michigan?

I love cherries too. Do you grow them in the UK or are they all imported?

Are you moving to the U of M? Grin

Frownette · 25/06/2021 15:29

@MissConductUS well I dunno, my UK university told me to study with them! Science. Apparently they're very good.

I just had a perplexing conversation with a neighbour. He asked me if I wanted sex and I said "no thank you. I thought you were gay?" He said no no no, girls. Turns out he'd misinterpreted my tipsy zig zag back home couple of weeks ago as a come hither sexy walk. I think I may need to abandon alcohol.

Well at least if I want sex I know where to go.

MissConductUS · 25/06/2021 16:16

@Frownette, I can confirm that U of M is very good indeed. Try to stick to on line classes. The winters there are pretty extreme.

Men see what they want to see. I abandoned alcohol ages ago and never regretted it.

Frownette · 25/06/2021 18:58

What made you abandon it?

I had a bit of a disturbing incident weekend before this one just gone. Unexpectedly got drunk and decided to walk to the garage 10 mins away. All was fine until walk back when I suddenly realised some man had pulled up next to me. It took a few seconds from being a peaceful sweet middle aged thing to being a very angry hissing banshee. If he'd followed me I would have fought tooth nail and handbag. It was when I got back that neighbour said something about being gay. I said good for you and went straight to bed. Definitely alcohol involved blurring perceptions.

SimonJT · 25/06/2021 19:16

@MissConductUS I did thank you, I had an entire day of no cooking, brilliant. I was forced to watch three films, well two, out once and trolls twice by the mini tyrant.

I can also confirm I like the new miele detergent scent.

I bought three new house plants from the nunhead gardener today, I think this means I have officially broken the 30 plants barrier. We also booked our place on our first adoption information introduction event, exciting and scary.

MissConductUS · 25/06/2021 19:23

What made you abandon it?

A clear case of alcoholism. I did an inpatient detox followed by peer support and have now been sober since March of 1994, so 27 years now. I have lots of stories about what led up to the detox, but I'll spare you. Smile By the way, I have revealed this countless times on MN, but it's usually on threads about alcohol abuse.

How did you get drunk unexpectedly? Grin

Seriously, women are very vulnerable when they've had too much to drink. It's also not good for you generally.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/06/2021 19:37

Miss - my culturally appropiate English fails me here. Das ist wirklich beeindruckend!

DH spent the afternoon at a "celebratory libation" at the graveside of ETA Hoffmann (they passed by Chamisso's and Mendelssohn's resting places, too).

Frownette · 25/06/2021 19:45

MissConductUS I'd like to hear if you want to talk. I'm a bit of a wonky alcoholic as I can drink too much at times then forget about alcohol for months. My living situation is stressing me out so I have overdone it at times as I did nearly 2 weeks ago.

Sunbird24 · 25/06/2021 20:06

Prok - beeindruckend = impressive?

MissConductUS · 25/06/2021 20:07

Prok, according Google Translate, that would be "very impressive". Thanks. Smile

Frownette, that's what's called binge drinking. Sometimes it progresses to something that looks more like addiction, sometimes it doesn't. Perhaps another method of stress reduction would be better.

I mostly just made myself sick, but there were some predictable embarrassing incidents. I usually drank alone, which minimized the social impact. I was sober for over a year when I met DH, so he never knew the old me, thankfully. I'm fine being around people who drink, but he doesn't, so we don't have any alcohol in the house.

Miss I knew the words, but I was not sure if they were Ok to say.Smile

DH thinks we will have Köfte tomorrow, with rice.

dopeyduck · 25/06/2021 21:45

New here but love this thread! Just collected toddler DS from his bed and taken him into mine. My DP is working tonight so just the two of us. DS was thrilled to see me and immediately went back to sleep. Just reading Mumsnet with a cup of tea. Think I might go wild and put a podcast on soon.
