In solidarity with sunbird I bought an orange Twirl on the way to pick DS up. I then ate it in his car All the whole picturing his fretful face lest I drop chocolate crumbs on his upholstery #firstcar Grin

I didn't drop crumbs, but can't help thinking it would be small payback for all the years my cars have been trashed by a small person

Sunbird24 · 21/06/2021 16:47

Yes Champagne! Hope you enjoyed it!

MissConductUS · 21/06/2021 17:06

Now I want an orange twirl too, but sadly they are not available here. Sad

I googled orange twirl, but it did not help me - what is it?

Due to relaxations and low cases the annual Fête de la Musique is not completely online.

Champagneforeveryone · 21/06/2021 18:56

Thank you sunbird Smile
I'm not a big chocolate eater but it was quite pleasant.

Nydj · 21/06/2021 19:04

Happy Birthday @HildaTablet, sounds like you’ve been through a lot and definitely deserve a cake to yourself! And not just this virtual one 🎂

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/06/2021 19:04

subird Fruit flavoured chocolate? Hmm

MissConductUS · 21/06/2021 19:06

DH has solved the fridge for uni problem. He rang the company and it turns out that the university had the wrong link on their website. The customer service person gave him the correct link and DH confirmed that the same unit we've rented before is available, they have plenty in stock and will put it in DS's dorm room over the summer after we do the rental

DH also called the residence life office and informed them of the error so that the website can be corrected.

If any of you are desperately bored, this is the correct website link:

mymicrofridge.com/

Re the Cadbury orange twirls, I can buy them from Amazon but I'd need to buy a box of six and they ship from the UK.

Thanks for the 🎂 Nydj !

I might investigate orange Twirls now too Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/06/2021 19:17

Chocolate

Squirrel26 · 21/06/2021 19:54

Lack of birthday cake is a bit rubbish. Definitely investigate the orange twirl.

It's so cold and damp I have put the heating on for a bit or my washing will never dry.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 21/06/2021 20:37

Checking on @mathanxiety having just seen the tornado pics. I'm not sure which bit of Chicago you're in but hope you're OK.

Silkiecats · 21/06/2021 20:39

Happy birthday Hilda Sorry your DH forgot, my DH can be forgetful with birthdays as well, sending you a virtual 🎂. I would definitely make or get some cake in.

Frownette · 21/06/2021 21:37

Happy birthday Hilda!

I'm getting told off like mad on my local group. I don't want to go into full details but I basically let a pantomime into my house. I think I was a bit too stunned to argue with a load of people in fancy dress prancing around the sitting room unexpectedly.

HelenaJustina · 22/06/2021 10:24

Happy Birthday @HildaTablet Cake

I was correct about the risk assessments, they are still a work in progress... bangs head on desk

Frownette · 22/06/2021 10:38

Got a charity coming around 11am then after that I can escape back home. It's really sad actually, brain cancer related.

HildaTablet · 22/06/2021 10:51

Thanks for the birthday wishes, all.

Sorry to hear about that charity visit, Frownette, it does sound very sad.

Frownette · 22/06/2021 10:59

Hilda it really is sad actually, their son died of brain cancer so we might have some items they can use for their charity they set up in his name. We'll see.

What did you get up to on your birthday then?

HildaTablet · 22/06/2021 11:24

Well, if something positive could come out of their loss that would be a great thing, Frownette. It's admirable of the parents to have thought of setting up a charity.

I didn't do much except a very long drive! But I'm meeting a friend for coffee and 🍰 in a Big Town today (OK, London) which will involve a train journey and possibly be a bit too exciting for this thread.

Squirrel26 · 22/06/2021 12:01

I need to make a very simple and boring phone call (to the vet, to request some repeat medication). I can’t work myself up to doing it. Does this happen to anyone else or am I just exceptionally useless??

They’re probably having lunch now…

Frownette · 22/06/2021 12:16

I need to go back home now. I've dealt with solicitors, charities, seen all my friends and commanded the youngster to dye his hair electric blue, I just want to go home and wash now, I'm thoroughly grubby.

It was such a pleasure paying my mobile phone bill this month, I've halfed it. Such a reasonable amount now.

Champagneforeveryone · 22/06/2021 14:57

squirrel, I have to book a haircut. My hairdressers do not open Sunday or Monday, my hairdresser only works Tuesday and Thursday. I work shifts so my availability is limited.

For some reason I always try to call on a day where he's not in - I have no idea why, but possibly the fear he will answer the phone and make small talk or may suggest I have a perm or a colour or something and I will be so caught on the hop I will agree. This inevitably leads to me postponing the call until my hair is at mass critical.

The utterly stupid bit is that part of my job involves me making difficult phone calls to strangers in often dreadful situations. I do this without a thought, yet the idea of speaking to my lovely hairdresser on the phone is apparently beyond me Hmm

Squirrel26 · 22/06/2021 15:23

Oh no, I couldn’t speak to my hairdresser on the phone. Because I’d have to try and explain who I was, and he might not remember me (he’s been cutting my hair for several years), and then yes, we might have to make small talk. And it would be so awkward I’d probably explode.

I’m a truly ridiculous person. (Also with quite a responsible job, for which I manage to pretend to be a functioning adult. Hmm )

MissConductUS · 22/06/2021 15:55

The place I get my hair cut has a receptionist who books the appointments, so I don't have to worry about anything except picking the date and time. I'm okay making small talk if needed, but most businesses just want to get you booked.

Frownette, I'm sorry this has been such a hard trip for you. I hope you get home soon and can unwind.

My MIL has found a restaurant in her town that does a nice lobster roll, and we have reservations next Saturday for an early dinner. We'll drive over there and pick her up. In the past she's come over here, but it's a 40 minute drive and I'd rather not put her out that much.

The company that has offered DS the internship this summer has told him that they'd want four hours a day of his time this fall as well. That's ridiculous. That's more time than he'll spend in class and he can't possibly commit to it, so he's going to tell them thanks, but no thanks. I think they're trying to avoid hiring a part-time employee by using an intern, which is not on as you all would say. DH and DS ordered the rental fridge last night, so that's taken care of.
