Something like MN but not MN

I have really enjoyed being on MN but recently getting a bit fed up of some of it. Is there a similar forum? Not netmums!

It's the constant trans bashing and a sort of vibe of anti left that seems to be trickling through. Also I find that most people are middle class and wealthy, I'd like a forum that's a bit more diverse.

OP posts:

Not parenting related but I like the moneysaving expert forum - there are sections with more general chat as well as the bits for getting out of debt or whatever. Less political and more financial diversity.

00100001 · 27/04/2021 09:22

Mumsnet is actually fairly distinct as a forum.

Good luck and good bye.

Oh my god thank you. I have the EXACT same feelings as you. There is a horrendous amount of trans hate and classism! Fingers crossed someone mentions a good forum on here. Let's make our own haha
ssd · 27/04/2021 09:34

I've been wondering this for ages.

00100001 · 27/04/2021 09:35

@Josiemac93...yet you're still here...?

ElderMillennial · 27/04/2021 09:35

Reddit?

Roonerspismed · 27/04/2021 09:35

Mumsnet is far from perfect but I love it and actually think it’s fairly diverse

I often disagree with posters but most people seem reasonably intelligent and able to have some kind of debate, which is important to me as a woman who prefers not to discuss beauty and telly!

Josiemac93 · 27/04/2021 09:36

@ElderMillennial

Reddit?
I was thinking maybe reddit too!
Tal45 · 27/04/2021 09:36

If you don't like mumsnet or netmums maybe you're looking for something other than a parenting website?

Bluntness100 · 27/04/2021 09:37

Are you asking on mumsent for alternate sites because you don’t like this one? 😂 do you also ask your current partner for new boyfriend recommendations before you bin them?

This site isn’t middle class wealthy, look at any thread on wages, it’s hugely diverse.

Chatanooga1 · 27/04/2021 09:37

Have The Guardian got a chat board, that would be perfect for you.

Sparklingbrook · 27/04/2021 09:38

Asking on MN about a site that's better for them than MN. Grin You could always start one yourself?

PuttingOnTheKitsch · 27/04/2021 09:38

Munsnet is quite left of centre compared to many sites out there. The fact is that aside from cultish areas of Twitter, the UK left is viewed as being in a total mess and is therefore unpopular. The last General Election might be a big clue.

If you think most people on here are middle class, you haven't been reading carefully enough.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 27/04/2021 09:39

I'm not middle class, nor am I wealthy.

There is a fair amount of trans bashing on here, but there are a few of us who call it out when we see it, and we make sure the very transphobic threads are reported and they are mostly deleted.

I do think its pretty diverse on here. Maybe I'm reading different threads to you.

Couldn’t agree more!

I don’t see trans hate. I see women standing up for our rights. Rights that help protect women physically, financially, mentally... I am all for trans rights but not at the expense of women’s rights.

RickiTarr · 27/04/2021 09:44

🤨

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 27/04/2021 09:44

I should correct that. I personally haven’t seen trans bashing threads. Doesn’t mean there haven’t been any. The ones I see aren’t.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 27/04/2021 09:45

You don't see most of the hate because it gets deleted quickly.

The attitudes still drip through from those who start the threads though.

I'm all for trans rights but.... means you're not all for trans rights at all.

UhtredRagnarson · 27/04/2021 09:46

“Hey Asda, are there any other supermarkets you could recommend? I don’t like it here”

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 27/04/2021 09:46

Reddit leans too American IME although I do still use it for some things. Would have thought it’s easy to avoid discussions on here about trans issues (which in the main are actually discussions about women’s rights) since they’re mainly confined to the Feminist board.

RickiTarr · 27/04/2021 09:46

OP is clearly the type who would stand in her local hairdresser’s asking the customers to recommend a rival salon.

So I suspect she is too unreasonable to be satisfied with anything. 🤷🏻‍♀️

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 27/04/2021 09:47

I'm all for trans rights but.... means you're not all for trans rights at all.

Would you be ok with your rights being eroded for a different protected class?

Roonerspismed · 27/04/2021 09:49

It is possible to want protection for trans people and be furious about the erosion of women’s rights too

I just want sensible discussion on it

The trans man now woman I know has bigger issues to think about

Sparklingbrook · 27/04/2021 09:49

Which bits of MN are acceptable to you @tiggeri?

Warmduscher · 27/04/2021 09:49

This sort of thing is easy enough to Google, OP.

Just try a few out, just like you’ve tried MN out and found it no longer appeals.
