Something like MN but not MN

tiggeri · 27/04/2021 08:51

I have really enjoyed being on MN but recently getting a bit fed up of some of it. Is there a similar forum? Not netmums!

It's the constant trans bashing and a sort of vibe of anti left that seems to be trickling through. Also I find that most people are middle class and wealthy, I'd like a forum that's a bit more diverse.

OP posts:

@Roonerspismed

It is possible to want protection for trans people and be furious about the erosion of women’s rights too

I just want sensible discussion on it

The trans man now woman I know has bigger issues to think about

Exactly - the two concerns aren't mutually exclusive!

mums.chat is no more.
Oh?
KarensChoppyBob · 27/04/2021 14:21

Surprised no one's mentioned Tattle Life yet:

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/tattle.life/%3famp=1

OP I suggest you dip your toe in over there and I'll expect you back soon with your tail between your legs, telling us how nice and kind we are by contrast Wink.

Have you kept a spreadsheet?

I have a memory Confused

Apparently there's a significant number of transphobic threads that get deleted before anyone can even see them

Look on any trans thread and you'll see the amount of deletions of posts for breaking talk guidelines (although I'm sure there will be some explanation that doesn't involve the very obvious one of transphobia) usually by the same people, the fact that I'm disbelieved about threads being deleted is great. It shows the disgusting attitudes shown on them aren't seen or are willfully ignored by most Smile

OldRumbly · 27/04/2021 14:34

Posted about 'poundland mumsnet' when they started but some posters didn't believe me. Can't say I'm surprised to know that many eventually had stories to confirm some of what I posted and MC is the one who's "died a death" as they wished on MN.

Hello "Penguins" and their allies We know you're all lurking/posting but the wind's been taken out of your sails. Glad to hear it!

I know one of your leaders have started a naice forum but that will soon disappear too.

Motnight · 27/04/2021 14:36

That's been done already 😂

You're aware of course that those deletions are often by non-GC posters too right? Most memorably the recent poster banned for making death threats? Still waiting on your evidence that there are all these transphobic threads that get deleted before people even read them. And no, we can't read your memory. But sure, making a load of baseless accusations doesn't make you look ridiculous at all. Same for your little passive-aggressive smiley faces. So nice for you.
JaneJeffer · 27/04/2021 14:40

Got any screenshots yet OP?

KarensChoppyBob · 27/04/2021 14:42

Are we talking 'mouldies' now? At the time that was drama.

KarensChoppyBob · 27/04/2021 14:45

*Moldies- autocorrect doesn't agree with my spelling.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 27/04/2021 14:46

Flouncers Corner is wonderful! I had no idea it existed. Do people put themselves in there, or do threads get moved there when they prove themselves worthy of it?

This thread has one of those titles I read in a list of titles & just know where it's going. So tedious - apart from the discovery of Flouncer's Corner.

Bye, OP!

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 27/04/2021 15:14

Evidence of a deleted thread? You know how deletions work, right? Smile

KarensChoppyBob · 27/04/2021 15:21

Flouncers' Corner is a notorious institution with a long history. A bit like the Bastille before the French Revolution 🇫🇷.

So how does anyone know there are lots of threads that get deleted for transphobia, then?
Waitwhat23 · 27/04/2021 15:27

@DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult you'll also be aware of the extremely strict rules on FWR, some of which aren't written down in the Talk Guidelines but which posters are just expected to know? Or the all encompassing 'not in the spirit of the site' which is often used in response to deletions raised by self appointed monitors from Twitter? I've seen people deleted for using a word which is also used for the top of a mountain. I've had a post deleted myself for merely reminding people not to get drawn into arguments with community disruptors. Comments which are transphobic in the true sense of the word are few and far between.

titchy · 27/04/2021 15:28

@Bluntness100

Are you asking on mumsent for alternate sites because you don’t like this one? 😂 do you also ask your current partner for new boyfriend recommendations before you bin them?

This site isn’t middle class wealthy, look at any thread on wages, it’s hugely diverse.

Lol Grin

Maybe mute some topics?

Toffeesprinkles · 27/04/2021 15:34

I use babycentre as well as mumsnet. Similar boards on there - aibu, wyoo and birth clubs which are handy if you're pregnant or have little ones.

ConfusedAdultFemale · 27/04/2021 15:36

@Waitwhat23 shhh you’re getting dangerously close to revealing some people don’t understand the meaning of transphobia. People like believing they’re victims.

So how doesanyoneknow there are lots of threads that get deleted for transphobia, then?

They don't know, unless they specifically keep an eye out and report them as quite a few of us do, which is great, because MN doesn't seem quite so transphobic without those threads. As I said there are plenty of threads to look on with deletions all over the place from those who have differing views to me if you really wish to look.

you'll also be aware of the extremely strict rules on FWR

I'm not only talking about FWR, there are plenty on a lot of the other boards too. I very rarely venture on that board, last time I did the thread was deleted as the op threw a strop on the LGBT kids board and then totally misrepresented the thread she was talking about in order to get people on side.

However this is completely derailing from the ops thread, I'm sure there will be another trans thread to discuss things on pretty soon (hope I don't get called illiterate and a racist on the next thread for not bowing down to the opinions of others next time though. I guess its easier to reduce yourself to insults than have a discussion with someone when you're used to living in an echo chamber though).

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 27/04/2021 15:47

You know how screenshots work?

I do, but I have no wish to keep transphobic photos in my phone to prove myself to people who would either excuse, deny, or ignore it tbh.

Warmduscher · 27/04/2021 16:06

So for anyone who doesn’t spend their spare time on here tracking down the transphobic threads, reporting them to MNHQ, having them deleted and then keeping a tally in their memory, all they would see is a site that isn’t transphobic?

Sounds ok to me.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 27/04/2021 16:07

But you're keeping them in your head.

(And then haranguing people about things which, today & - who knows - possibly always, only exist in your head, and expecting people to take your word for it. Do you see the difficulty here?)

There's a story which has stayed with me since I read it, & is so often apt. Perhaps it will help you.

Two Eastern monks, one old & one young, are on a long journey across the countryside. They arrive at a river & there's a young woman there who asks if one of them will carry her across the river as it's too deep & strongly flowing for her. The old monk picks her up, & he & the young monk wade across the river. On the other side, the old monk puts down the woman & she thanks him & goes on her way. The monks continue their journey but now there's a frosty atmosphere & they walk in silence. Finally they arrive at their destination & the older monk asks his young companion why he seems put out. "You shouldn't have picked up that young woman! It's entrely wrong!" says the young man. The older monk replies, "I only carried her over the river. You've been carrying her ever since."

Waitwhat23 · 27/04/2021 16:08

Echo chamber? Like Reddit who banned r/gendercritical but still host really awful subreddits, including ones which are hideously misogynistic (r/mensrights is mentioned in this Wikipedia page and there are apparently loads of really hate filled groups for incels?) en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversial_Reddit_communities

adviceseekingnamechanger · 27/04/2021 16:14

Time for the truth @mnhq - how many threads are swiftly deleted (before they get to say, 50 posts) for being transphobic?

This poster would have us believe there are lots. Any idea how many in the last month or even year?

I will happily be corrected on this, but without any evidence, I don't believe you.
