What's wrong with birds nesting? Are you going to offer them a home somwhere else?

I have seen the first bat Smile

Frownette · 19/04/2021 21:36

Oh lord I can't even remember the lockdown dates or how many waves

PollyPepper · 19/04/2021 21:37

Jumping on if thats okay!
This thread always relaxes me. Smile

I have had a shitter of a month, second miscarriage this weekend and going through all of the physical nastiness that comes with it.

But in boring news - I have finally emptied out a load of books from my bookshelves, took half of them to the lovely lady down the road for her book exchange and the other half I have put on ebay at very reasonable but competitive prices.

@ZZTopGuitarSolo - hope you don't mind me asking, DH and I have booked a holiday to Cape Cod for October, how do you fancy our chances? (Know you're not in MA but to me America is just one big town so if you could answer with startling accuracy and confidence please Grin )

@Bouledeneige - ohhh sounds interesting, I'm a police dog handler. Sounds like a dangerous dog job. Sad

amigababy · 19/04/2021 21:42

Oh Prok another Duo fan [waves] What language are you doing? I'm heading towards the end of Italian, but have quite a few others on the go. I love languages.

I've also just seen the first bat of the year, just flew past the lounge.

Sunbird24 · 19/04/2021 21:42

We have a pair of Canada Geese at work. They didn’t have babies last year, hoping they might this year

RhubarbFairy · 19/04/2021 21:58

I stayed in the same Duo league this week. I have been very lazy of late. Well done on finishing 3rd Prok. Also well done on the stealth filing.

@Sunbird24, I don't like geese. I never used to mind them but then some chased me when I visited a private farm (I was invited!) and I've been wary of them since. I have now added cows to that list. The DC and I went for a ride on Friday and had to cross a field of cows (following a public footpath). We ended up having a rather terrifying adventure where they became very interested in us. We tried to walk back out of the field quietly, but they followed us and kept closing the gap. I was worried that they'd stampede so I sent the DC back to the gate whilst I kept their attention on me by standing firm and moving away slowly. But they kept closing the gap. They hesitated when I made noise so I ended up shouting at them. They then moved away to my right and ran towards the fence where the DC were (now safely on the other side). That put enough distance between me and them that I felt able to get out of that field as fast as possible. Both DC were in tears by the time I got to them. DH laughs every time we tell him how scary the cows were but he has no idea what it's like to have a herd of about fifty staring at you and not know if they're going to stampede.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 19/04/2021 22:03

@Frownette

Yeah *@ZZTopGuitarSolo* I can't see masks ending anytime soon! What with the talk about new variants and a third wave we'll have to play it by ear. We've had 3 waves in the UK, is it the same in the US?

My mother called not long ago and shrieked WHAT WERE YOUR BLOOD TEST RESULTS?? I'd completely forgotten to phone the surgery for them so she told me to phone right now and I was saying at 9pm? Manãna. It can wait one day.

I think we're in our third wave in my bit of the US. There was the first one last Apr last year, a second one during winter, and now a third which seems to be more younger people, given that older people are mostly vaccinated.

I really think warm weather makes a huge difference. Texas and other southern states have opened up massively and are not seeing an increase in cases. I'm really hoping that's the case!

I'm so sorry about your miscarriage. Life is so rubbish sometimes.

I'm really hopeful that travel into the US from Europe will be allowed in October. It'll be after a nice long warm spell, lots more people will be vaccinated - especially in the UK - and the country really does desperately need tourism again.

Cape Cod in October will be lovely! Come up to Maine for a long weekend too if you get a chance. It's gorgeous in October.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/04/2021 23:13

@amigababy - There are a number of others here enslaved by the owl.

I love languages and can bore at world cup level on modal verbs and semantics and I collect language courses.
So - I try to revise those langauges I 'ought to know' - Italian is one of them, and dabble in others for the sheer fun of it.
And English of course.

Frownette · 20/04/2021 01:32

A flock of birds are making an awful racket, something must have distressed them to do that this time of night.

At least it's shut the foxes up.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/04/2021 05:29

frownette
Here too, they are probably discussing twig connectors and fluff quality

Silkiecats · 20/04/2021 05:48

Birds are just singing here.

DS loves geese when he was little he used to get very excited and say Mummy, come and look at the chicken-horses!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/04/2021 06:02

chicken-horses - that's a good description.
DS overslept of course and is now quoting from Gotham instead of leaving.
I have to check in for work at eight.

soddingkitten · 20/04/2021 06:39

I found you all! I’ve missed your soothing updates.

In the last month:

  • Sodding turned 1 and is now soddingcat. We had a special dinner to celebrate (lockdown, innit?).
  • Our boys returned to school.
  • DS1 has been revising for his public exams.
  • I’ve been shortlisted for a job that I would love to get. I am busy preparing for the interview.
  • DS1 ironed his own clothes 😮
  • DS2 mastered bread dough and now makes superior pizza dough to DS1. His knead is better.
  • Sodding and Shyboy have achieved an entente cordial and spend many happy hours hanging out together in the garden.
  • Sodding’s mastered hunting and his body count has taken off, sparrows, mice and baby rats so far. 😢
  • I finished a book. (The pandemic has been a disaster for my reading.)
Frownette · 20/04/2021 07:23

This morning's haul of on the turn fruit and vegetables for £1.50:

Nectarine, pear, banana, orange
Cucumber
Lettuce (needs to be eaten for lunch! Looks very wilted)
Potatoes
Onions
Mushrooms
Spring greens

I think that's it.

Frownette · 20/04/2021 07:25

Oh and two cabbages. I love getting a box and having to gorge it before it goes off

Spudlet · 20/04/2021 07:30

Hello you lovely lot. Missed you!

My boring news is, today I will take delivery of 5 litres of rust remover for the £15 bike. I’m not sure it will be enough. I have dismantled it completely with some help from DH and DFiL, and bought it a shiny new chain, which cost more than the bike itself did 😳

Frownette · 20/04/2021 07:34

Oh and a packet of rosemary which was buried at the bottom.

Hello @Spudlet and @soddingkitten!

theDudesmummy · 20/04/2021 07:40

Can I join? I suffer from anxiety at times (that's not the boring news, just a reason to like this thread, along with being, like many people, very socially isolated at the moment. This combined with my workload at the moment means I am simultaneously stressed and bored).

My news is that the duvet is too hot and it is time to change to the summer one.

And on veg related news, my tomato seeds are sprouting at last.

Frownette · 20/04/2021 07:44

Hi @theDudesmummy, yes it is heating up, it's sunny here already!

May your tomatoes be plentiful!

We sometimes get the Too Good to Go boxes from Morrisons, which are similar but also have bread/ cakes in them. Still got the last of 3 sweetheart cabbages to use up. I confess to being a little fed up of cabbage.

Frownette · 20/04/2021 07:57

@IWanderedLonely cakes Shock

I've just installed the TooGoodToGoApp, thank you :)

soddingkitten · 20/04/2021 08:15

@theDudesmummy I’m struggling with seasonal duvet overheating too. DH feels the cold. I’m ‘on the turn’ (peri). I’m considering two single duvets so both our needs are met.

Silkiecats · 20/04/2021 09:41

Welcome back Spudlet and SoddingKitten We missed you too. Welcome to the newbies.

DH has to go into work today and has put on a suit. Silkiecat is devastated and is howling at him and he's not even left. He is going to get her a big tin of tuna and hope that helps. He should be back around lunchtime but Silkiecat thinks he should resign with such unreasonable demands now being placed on him.

Birds are singing and its sunnyish.

Silkiecats · 20/04/2021 09:43

Hope you get the job Sodding
