Good morning, lovely people of the thread!

The last thread started on the 20th of March, so almost exactly a month ago. May I request that we reflect for a moment on the good things that have happened in the last month?

What comes to mind for me is the transition from a really bad winter to spring, getting DH vaccinated, getting the kids their first vaccine doses, and a feeling that we are finally coming out of the bloody pandemic.

Yes, it's been a funny old ride. I was a bit slow on the uptake at first when the pandemic started but now optimistic about getting out of it. Are things still much restricted in US? I think we're allowed to sit in cafes next month. Council offices/local museum open next month. Non essential shops open already.

My dull/unexciting is that I'm about to make a cup of tea.

Silkiecats · 19/04/2021 11:52

Good things since 20th March well one day punting and booking more of summer holiday and children's school has been open for half the month.

Hoping things will start to improve from now on with the vaccines happening and some things opened here on 12th April.

Silkiecats · 19/04/2021 11:55

Flowers for Sunbird and anyone else who had a difficult last month. Hoping this month is better for you all.

Jobseeker19 · 19/04/2021 11:56

I have sorted out the boxes of crap underneath the TV and the children have gone back to school.

Silkiecats · 19/04/2021 11:57

The cat has finally moved from the dining room and is sunbathing in the garden, she is very happy Spring has arrived.

Frownette · 19/04/2021 12:01

I love happy sleepy cats in the sunshine :)

Does DH have regular sleeping patterns silkie?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/04/2021 12:03

There you are, got you!

Silkiecats · 19/04/2021 12:06

Silkiecat is like a sloth in the sunshine - she just flops down then doesn't move for hours but she loves any sun.

DH sleeps UK hours so he's much better than me. At one point he was always napping in the day but he's stopped that for past few months.

DS is the best at sleeping, he loves his sleep, snuggled with fleece all around. DD has always been a terrible sleeper.

Silkiecats · 19/04/2021 12:09

There's a giant spider crawling across my floor, you would have thought with all the animals in this house one of them would have managed to eat it but nope. I've just trapped it in a glass. I'm calling DH for spider relocation services.

DH has just collected spider. DD is off school and locked herself in her bedroom, she's scared of spiders.

Silkiecat is now reunited with DH.

OneToThree · 19/04/2021 12:34

I’ve just put all new hammocks in the rat’s cage. It’s made me and him very happy.

Frownette · 19/04/2021 12:37

Hammocks? Rat likes to sleep in a hammock?

Frownette · 19/04/2021 13:10

Need a pic of happy hammock rat!

Work just called round the house to drop something off, so now I am freeee and don't have to hover by the front door waiting and can have lunch then walk round to relative's to drop off her washing.

I don't feel hungry though so may just head off soon.

Champagneforeveryone · 19/04/2021 13:10

The sun really does make things seem more hopeful doesn't it?

Our summer holiday looks as likely as possible to go ahead, it seems like DS will be able to start his driving lessons next week and my hangover is all but vanished

Frownette · 19/04/2021 13:11

Are you going abroad?

amigababy · 19/04/2021 13:26

Hello to the new thread and to everyone.

Good things since March 20th. I did some long outstanding DIY in the bathroom and it looks much better.
We booked a holiday.
And we (UK in general) were allowed to sit outdoors at the pub in the sun with a glass of wine. Wine

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 19/04/2021 13:32

Joining in and also feeling grateful that things feel like they are finally getting better.

OneToThree · 19/04/2021 13:44

Here he is, happy ratty.

Frownette, the restrictions here have been loosening, but it's very locally driven. The biggest change has been schools reopening for in person learning, or a combination of in-person and remote. That's made it easier for parents to come back to work. I don't think our lockdown was ever as restrictive as yours has been.

Our daily new infections numbers haven't been coming down much in the last month despite the vaccinations as the much more contagious UK/Kent/B.1117 variant has become the dominant strain in the US.

I forgot to mention earlier that I'm pleased with how well the kids are doing at uni but disappointed that we won't have DD here for the summer.

My dull/unexciting is that I'm about to make a cup of tea.

In my bit of the US (Maine) lockdown ended last summer, but we're still wearing masks everywhere, and school is still in hybrid mode.

My high schoolers switch to 4 days a week in-school next month, although if the Covid rates stay as high as they are right now then I'm not convinced that will happen. They are still doing 3' distancing in schools and wearing masks throughout - not sure how they'll do that with 90%+ of students in, but they seem to think it's possible. Lots of marquees and outdoor classes I think.

Vaccinations open up officially to all over 16s throughout the US today, although they've been open in my state for a couple of weeks now, and 2 of my 3 teens have had their first shot. I get my second Moderna shot this week.

I've just been to Massachussetts, where things are noticeably less open than in Maine - very few museums seem to be open for example.

DH flies back and forth to Florida quite a lot for work and says it's Covid Central down there - everyone is catching it, but things are still opening back up. He was so relieved to get a Covid vaccine before his travel restarted fully.

My parents have booked flights to visit us from the UK in October, so I have everything crossed that this can actually happen. If the US doesn't open borders to people from Europe by then, I'm tempted to meet them in a third country eg Mexico or Costa Rica.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/04/2021 16:49

Back from my first day in the office using my improved foot. It was not great, but no as bad as feared.
Tomorrow is my first physio appt. and I am working from home the next few days.

The sun is shining, it is slightly less cold.

RhubarbFairy · 19/04/2021 17:24

Checking in.

Nice first day back at work today. It's good to be back.

Silkiecats · 19/04/2021 17:35

Just did my tax return.
