Do you recognise any posters usernames on here?

I’ve been on here about a year or so and had about 3/4 different usernames but I’ve had this one for the longest....

I recognise a handful of posters usernames. Some for good reason others not so 😂 but it’s interesting given how many people are on here.

I suppose how catchy/different the username is to me, how frequently we are in the same threads and whether we have agreed/disagree in the past, if they’ve been helpful etc... all play a part.

So my list of user names I recognise on here.... (some of them I can’t remember exactly but I know if I see them so they won’t be on the list)

LyinWitchinWardrope (probably not spelt that right)
Bluntness100
ilovesooty
C8H10N4O2
Gwynfnder (that’s totally wrong but again I’d recognise it)
AlternativePerspective

There’s definitely more but my mind has literally gone blank!!! I’ll add them as I remember. The ones above are in my mind because I’ve seen their posts recently.

I don’t really look at the usernames when I’m reading a thread, but I’ve been here long enough now to immediately recognise a handful of posters by their writing style. I like most of them, can’t stand a couple 🤷🏻‍♀️

You must have seen many come an go over the years. I suppose people can change their usernames too. You’ll know if it’s going to ‘kick off’ as well sometimes 🤣

Why though?

WalkingInTheAir13 · 10/04/2021 10:13

@AnyFucker - aka AF
@WorraLiberty
@StealthPolarBear (who lately has been stealthily quiet unless nc)
@MatildaTheCat
@SoupDragon (because she lives near me)
@CrunchyMum (who bought a beautiful lamp!)

TableFlowerss · 10/04/2021 10:17

WorralLiberty
SoupDragon

I totally recognise too! It’s so annoying that I couldn’t remember before!

Why not? No different to any other thread, what’s the point in any thread....

I just see people that I recognise and I find it interesting that there’s probably hundreds of thousands of people on here yet we recognise a handful....

Oh definitely. Some posters are only attracted to certain threads so you can guarantee they’ll turn up on them.

EssentialHummus · 10/04/2021 10:23

Oh yes. One I guess because people are drawn to similar threads again and again (so if I start a thread about living in SE London I can near-guarantee the same 10 posters turning up to offer advice), but also just some people are frequent posters, good at posting with sensible and concise replies. And you have some with bonkers viewpoints or unusual circumstances that stand out.

dontgobaconmyheart · 10/04/2021 10:28

This will turn into one of those bizarre 'mumsnet royalty' threads/ popularity contest where people say things like 'old guard' and try to demonstrate how long they've been using the forum as though there is a hierarchical tier system in place, codewords naice ham and penis beaker etc..

I don't really look, if I'm interested in the thread I'll read the replies before I would even clock any username. I suppose a couple are recognisable because of threads like this but I can't say I think their posts are distinguishable other than where people are clearly 'known' for being a certain way so make a point of popping up on a thread to do so, whereupon everyone gets excited and says stuff like "as ever so and so has hit the nail on the head, there's nothing more to it" "Op listen to so and so" when actually more nuanced and empathetic replies are far more realistic and effortful.

everybodysang · 10/04/2021 10:30

A few - have been on here for 13 years and it did used to be much smaller so you'd get to know some names.
One in particular gave me some very good, very kind advice when my DD was younger that has really stuck with me so I do notice her.

RubyFowler · 10/04/2021 10:32

I had a thread in relationships under a different username and got some really excellent advice and amazing support. If I ever see those people on other threads I always think 'don't worry I've got your back'. I could never thank them enough.

00100001 · 10/04/2021 10:35

Some, yes

daffodilsandprimroses · 10/04/2021 10:37

Yes, quite a few.

There are a few usernames I recognise who had babies in December / January 2020/21.

I also tend to remember those who go out of their way to be outstandingly rude and unhelpful Grin it does help as when they start I just think ‘oh, it’s just you!’

MrsPerfect12 · 10/04/2021 10:37

I don't really notice usernames, unless I'm replying or it's the OP and it's a thread I'm following.

ShowOfHands · 10/04/2021 10:40

I've been using MN for 17yrs so yes of course.

17yrs ago I would have known the majority of posters though. It was a smaller place and much friendlier.

Carryonlikeaporkchop · 10/04/2021 10:42

I’ll add them as I remember.

Please don't.
Some of us don't care how many names you can remember.
What a bizarre topic.

Oh, you're just being sneery. Hope it's giving you pleasure.

I recognise the one who lives in the old post office.
I hope no-one knows me.

Samcro · 10/04/2021 10:50

is this a fave mn poster thread. used to love them.

Poppiesway1 · 10/04/2021 10:54

@dontgobaconmyheart. I wondered if this will turn into one of those posts where they will start asking posters to state their membership number to compare whose been the longest member? Like they did back in the olden days when Cod and Morning paper were about Grin (not saying they asked to list numbers 🤣

TableFlowerss · 10/04/2021 11:16

Not as bizarre as someone that actively spends time replying to a thread, they insist they aren’t interest in and find bizarre!!

That’s the epitome of bizarre Hmm

Exactly. I'm actually cringing.

Thank God for the 'hide thread' option.

I'm off.

SignMyStookie · 10/04/2021 11:35

I've just come back after being away from MN for a good few years, I've lost my Twitter account and have nobody else to talk to.

It's been quite comforting seeing names that I recognise especially when it's a poster who has helped me in the past with advice, support or just being nice if I've felt like crap.

Strangekindofwoman · 10/04/2021 11:39

@DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou

Omg - you don’t need to bother hiding a thread to stop seeing it- you simply don’t reply 😂

Has to be one of the biggest pointless aspects on MN, posters that reply to a thread they find pointless..... why even bother wasting you time replying.... so strange! 🤯🤯
