Do you recognise any posters usernames on here?

I’ve been on here about a year or so and had about 3/4 different usernames but I’ve had this one for the longest....

I recognise a handful of posters usernames. Some for good reason others not so 😂 but it’s interesting given how many people are on here.

I suppose how catchy/different the username is to me, how frequently we are in the same threads and whether we have agreed/disagree in the past, if they’ve been helpful etc... all play a part.

So my list of user names I recognise on here.... (some of them I can’t remember exactly but I know if I see them so they won’t be on the list)

LyinWitchinWardrope (probably not spelt that right)
Bluntness100
ilovesooty
C8H10N4O2
Gwynfnder (that’s totally wrong but again I’d recognise it)
AlternativePerspective

There’s definitely more but my mind has literally gone blank!!! I’ll add them as I remember. The ones above are in my mind because I’ve seen their posts recently.

I’ve been here forever so I do notice names, and often clock name changers by their writing style.

MNs a lot bigger now and people name change a lot more I think.

TableFlowerss · 10/04/2021 11:48

@Samcro

is this a fave mn poster thread. used to love them.
I like those threads too! 😂 I’ve seen a few corkers but would never remember who said it

Oh really, just by the writing style? A pp said that mind, so some posters must have a specific writing style. Can’t say I could recognise that just yet, maybe in a few more years!

I’ve never understood the point of opening a thread and writing on it to state you think the thread is pointless.

What a waste of energy 🙄

RandomMess · 10/04/2021 11:52

I recognise soooooo many but have been here a long long time. I guess many are regulars from when it was a small site and there were lots of other parenting forums back then.

BraveGoldie · 10/04/2021 11:58

I don't normally look at usernames. I'm rubbish enough remembering names in real life! 😂....

For some reason 'bluntness' does stick in my mind though. As a blunt Scot I like the sound of it!

Apileofballyhoo · 10/04/2021 12:03

Yours is one of the names I do recognise random.

I mostly only know names from topics I read a lot, particularly where there are continuation threads. I sometimes miss name changes though and sometimes I wonder if the poster no longer posts or if I just haven't realised they are the same person as newname. I don't think I would ever recognise someone from their writing style.

LindyLou2020 · 10/04/2021 12:05

I misunderstood and thought OP meant she recognised/knew the real life people behind the usernames!
Which, coincidentally, leads me to my dilemma:-
Nobody knows I am on MN.
I started using it during lockdowns last year when my life was so restricted.
Recently, my young adult son saw me looking at an email from MN telling me I'd been mentioned in a post. He wasn't snooping, I was sitting next to him and was careless.
He said "Hi Lindylou", just in a matter of fact way.
Now I'm embarrassed, 'though I know I've no need to be. I just feel a bit of a saddo!
I'm paranoid now in case he delves back into my posting history, not that there's anything awful there.
OTOH he may have forgotten all about it.
You can't delete past posts, can you? Should I NC for now and the future?

I couldn’t agree more. You see all sorts on here, but to specifically open up a thread to say ‘it’s a pointless thread’ and call it bizarre, is just one of the most strange aspects of an anonymous forum Confused

mostly I don't look at user names. But I do know and recognise a lot.

For example, I post quite often on school admissions threads and there are 2 experts that post on there, that we all know and basiclaly once they post, people just say - please listen to prh47bridge, and the other one whose name for the moment escapes me!

Or on cat threads everyone calls for thecatneuterer, who is an expect, and on vet threads veterinari is pretty knowledgable.

By the same token, when you get a funny conversation you start to notice who is posting. Same names come up.

and then there is the poster who writes posts about 3 miles long full of rubbish. I spot one, look at the user name, roll my eyes and click off.

daffodilsandprimroses · 10/04/2021 12:11

I have someone who always recognises me lindy and I feel the same.

They can’t help recognising me but just the same it feels awkward for me.

Oh no way? Poor you! Hopefully he won’t bother to look back... no one knows me IRL either so I try to change a few details. Must day my DC sometimes pops her head at my phone and I turn it round 😂

Once upon a time, it was impossible to name change without being spotted. There are a handful of posters who are still recognisable despite name changes.

We could turn it into a favourite poster thread.

I like JudgeFlounce best.

not you I promise!

and I am not above the odd regular long post.
But usually when it is something I actually know something about.

steppemum · 10/04/2021 12:17

and can I just say , on my way to flouncers corner, that have been on mn for 18 years. 18 YEARS I tell you and in all of these favourite mn posters threads, no-one, but NO-ONE every mentions me

Donotgogentle · 10/04/2021 12:20

steppemum - you’re my favourite poster Grin

SnuggleWuggle · 10/04/2021 12:21

@steppemum is my favourite poster of all time Grin

Donotgogentle · 10/04/2021 12:22

I had to change my name as someone I know and don’t like IRL made clear she’d recognised me on here. I’ve name changed again since then to be on the safe side.

BloodyInternetFood · 10/04/2021 12:26

Yes, a handful. Generally, not for positive reasons.

I'm sure there are more frequently posting posters (Smile) who tend to express their opinions "authoritatively" (I'm being pc) but changes are these posters name change before their name becomes known.

AWamBamBoom · 10/04/2021 12:28

I only notice the UN if they post something ridiculous but I agree about recognising the writing style

Never fear, I'm sure you're also my favouritest poster. But if you're not a nob head I won't remember your name.

Be nobbier.
