I've been researching my family tree and there are a lot of surnames, mostly usual Irish, Scottish but some interesting ones and it got me thinking about surnames in general.

I always thought Italian surnames are very beautiful, Baccino, Santangelli.

I love ones that are simple such as Flower, Beach and Ocean too.

So, what's the most beautiful one you have ever heard?

I had a lovely art teacher called Mrs Wish. I think that's a beautiful surname.

@Oneeyeopen

When my dm was a midwife there was a Krystle O'Driscoll and a Jellian Coustard.
Jellian Coustard is a top name!

I know a Mrs Lovegrove, which I always think sounds classy and friendly.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 03/04/2021 20:36

I always love birdy surnames: Nightingale, Peacock, Swan, Partridge, Sparrow.

Claire4567 · 03/04/2021 20:38

Knew a girl with the surname Rosenbriar.

I always love birdy surnames: Nightingale, Peacock, Swan, Partridge, Sparrow.
I knew a Drew Peacock which always seemed a bit unfortunate.

I know a family of Lucks and a De’ath.

We have a Holyday in our family which I like, and I know a Dreamer and a Free. Moving on from surnames, I regularly exchange emails and work calls with a chap with the first name Santa. That always makes my day. I can’t quite place his accent so don’t know which country it hails from.

Like a PP I dropped my maiden name to take my DH’s lovely and much-complimented surname. SIL’s first husband did the same and, despite only being married a few years, having no children together and being many years since divorcing, he still uses it!

Surnames that aren’t so brilliant: a childhood dentist called Mr Screech and a PSHE teacher called Mr Fagg.

Xigris · 03/04/2021 21:06

I was taught by a Miss Nazareth - no prizes for guessing what her subject was.....

Also know someone with the surname Hunnybun which is fabulous and my sister was at school with a Lucy Lavender which is beautiful.

@BikeRunSki - DH knows someone called Hamish Patel which I love. My children also have very mixed cultural names but not as great as that.

DuckonaBike · 03/04/2021 21:10

I used to know someone who’s surname was Sparrowhawk. Also a Mr Duck; I really coveted his name.

Ladymouse · 03/04/2021 21:21

A teacher at my nieces school is called Mrs Tickle.

There is someone with this surname at the insurance broker company we use and as it’s a small company we tend to hear from the same person each year. Our house insurance renews on Valentine’s Day so it always seems quite fitting
Squeejit · 03/04/2021 21:46

I really like Moriarty

icelollycraving · 03/04/2021 21:58

Previous bf was a Moriarty. I always liked the name.

@TawnyPippit

I know someone called “Rainbird”, which I think is very cool
I taught a girl with this surname and one kid called her 'Jane Wet Pigeon' one day in a fit of pique. Taught another kid with the surname Colgate. The kids called him toothpaste.
PurpleFadesToGreen · 03/04/2021 22:06

There's an actress called Moon Bloodgood, I quite like that.

Her father is Shell Bloodgood.
