A question about bath towels

ViolentFairy · 20/03/2021 18:37

We are a family of four. We have one bathroom. Two bath towels out usually as not really space for more on the towel rail. We all use the same bath towels, wash them each week.
Is this a bit rank? What do other people do? It just occurred to me that maybe now the kids are teens they might use a towel each but I wondered what others do.
Thanks

Definitely everyone has their own towel. I don't wash them every time they're used.
It's one thing drying my face on a towel I've used to dry my body, completely different to dry my face with a towel used on someone else's body!

Wet towels are hung on a back of door hook in the bedrooms to dry. Other houses I've hung them over the landing banister thingy or over a radiator in the bedroom if there isn't room in the bathroom. We don't have a towel rail or heater in the bathroom where we are now.

We have our own towels and hang them up in our bedrooms. It never occurred to me to do it any other way. Maybe that started when I was housesharing, which I did for 10 years before meeting dh.

@Mummy1232016 do you change your bedding and might clothes daily too? Skin gets shed during the hours you sleep and if you share a bed you would be laying on someone else's skin.

Dh and I share bath towels. I can’t for the life of me see the problem - you’ve always just had a shower - unless of course someone has e.g. impetigo.

I do wonder how people who ‘can’t’ share towels with a dh or partner and think it’s ‘rank’, manage to have sex with them. Do they go over them with Dettol and a Brillo pad first?

Not bedding, just to contradict myself really :) for towels it just seems different to me. I’m practically covered up in bed rather than wiping my entire body with a towel and as others said lots of others germs etc that get passed on through towels 🤢 all clothing day and night wear go in the wash after use x

The difference with towels is they are damp and usually kept in a warm, moist environment. They also come into direct contact with the bodies orifices.
Perfect breeding ground for bacteria and fungi. Skin and hair falling off tends to be dry, do very much a lower risk.

Haha no. I don't rub his anus on my face during sex either though.

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2021 11:19

Sharing towels is not even comparable to having sex. Confused
I wouldn’t share a toothbrush with DH although I kiss him.
Having your own towel is just nice.

Only if he asks very nicely 🤪

TroysMammy · 21/03/2021 11:40

@LemonRoses I always use the corner of the towel for orifices but I don't scrub delicate parts dry. An

@Mummy1232016 If you use your own towels it's only your own bacteria and fungi, excellent for the immune system. When the weather is dry I put my towel on the line so the nasties get blown away. When it's not, they are hung on a clothes horse inside.

lborgia · 21/03/2021 11:51

You're all slovenly, I have bath sheet, hair towel, hand towel, fancy, guest, fancy guest....*

  • thanks, Monica!

Slightly neurotic. Exactly how dirty is your husband?

crystalcherry87 · 21/03/2021 12:11

That was to GreenSlide

2pinkginsplease · 21/03/2021 12:15

We each have a hook on the back of our bathroom door. We all have our own bath towels and they get washed after every 2nd shower/bath. Dd and I also have a hand towel each for our hair so we use then for our faces .

Hate anyone using my towel! 🤬🤬🤬

Op is talking about sharing towels with teen children though.....not quite in the sex territory....

I know when I was a teenage girl, I'd not want to share a towel that my dad had dried his arse with 🤷‍♀️

autumnboys · 21/03/2021 13:30

We all have our own towels. Boys all chuck theirs over the door to dry, or use the hooks on the back of the door. They prefer this, even though there is a large towel radiator in their bathroom.

Practicalprat · 21/03/2021 15:41

4 of us ,own flannels own hand towels and own bath towels. You have to dry your bits , so why would you share with someone who has to dry their bits.Just yuck

BeautyQueenIamNot · 21/03/2021 16:37

We each have our own towels. 2 each and some spare ones in the airing cupboard.

Washed every 2nd use (normally on a weds and Sunday)

Annoyingly DH tends to use mine tho
