A question about bath towels

ViolentFairy · 20/03/2021 18:37

We are a family of four. We have one bathroom. Two bath towels out usually as not really space for more on the towel rail. We all use the same bath towels, wash them each week.
Is this a bit rank? What do other people do? It just occurred to me that maybe now the kids are teens they might use a towel each but I wondered what others do.
Thanks

Why on earth wouldn’t you all have your own towel? So gross to share, sorry! Family of 4 with one bathroom here. We have 2 towel rails so plenty of room to store the towels but if we only had 1, we’d put them on hooks behind the door or something.

Seasidemumma77 · 20/03/2021 20:34

Shared hand towel for drying hands, usually washed daily.

Flannels go in laundry daily.

All have own colour of bath towel, washed weekly.

Doilooklikeatourist · 20/03/2021 20:34

Own bath towels
Different colour for each person (( 2 sets each )
Dry on radiator towel rails or over banisters
Washed every week

We use one each, twice per day. Then they are washed.

NanaRant · 20/03/2021 20:45

Adult son has his own bathroom and own towels. Husband and I have our own towels (big cupboard with plenty bath sheets and bath towels). Wash after second, third use. Shared handtowels in bathrooms, and downstairs toilet. Changed regularly.

@BikeRunSki

We are 4. We have 4 hooks, and different coloured towels each.
Same in our house.

Sharing towels is disgusting and unhygienic.

waitingpatientlyforspring · 20/03/2021 20:50

@speedywotsit - because kids don't reuse, believe me its not my choice they take a clean towel each time they have a bath or shower! They then end up with a couple of more towels left on the floor in their room.

I forgot to add, we have a heated towel rail so DH usually uses it first then hangs to dry and by the time I have my shower it's pretty much dry.

Damp towels kept in warm bathrooms are excellent for spreading impetigo, E. Coli, Ringworm, Staph infections, threadworms and norovirus.
I think individual towels are better.
I’ve always given everyone their own set of towels. Each with a coloured hanging ribbon. If they don’t hang it up on their hook in their bathroom then they get a damp towel next time.
Anyone who didn’t put their towels in the basket to go to the laundry didn’t get clean towels.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 20/03/2021 21:06

separate towels, washed at 60 1-2 times weekly, depending on how busy I've been
I have started deliberately buying towels in lots of different colours, and making sure no-one has the same colour out at the same time.

Kids and DH dry theirs in the bathroom - heated rail can do three. Mine goes over the radiator in the bedroom.

RowanAlong · 20/03/2021 21:13

We used to share. Then I decided it was a bit grim, so now kids have their own (‘novelty’) towels hanging over /in the back of bedroom doors. Husband and I each have a different colour towel in bathroom. He doesn’t know this, but I make sure it happens Smile

Dddccc · 20/03/2021 21:13

Wow I have like 10 towels and have a little shelf in the bathroom which they sit of for use we each have our own colours

JemimaTiggywinkle · 20/03/2021 21:19

We have our own towels (different colours) and hang them over the banister on the landing to dry if there’s no space on the bathroom radiator.

I wash them when they don’t smell fresh... this is usually once a week for me, because they dry out properly between each use. It’s when they stay damp that they start to smell.

CrotchetyQuaver · 20/03/2021 21:21

Family of 4 with only 1 bathroom. We all have our own towels, they all fit on our big tall radiator but my hand towel does pick up mysterious toothpaste stains from Mr Nobody

Noflora · 20/03/2021 21:25

It's really a bad idea to share towels. My teens usually go back to their rooms wrapped in theirs so we put a hook up for each of them there. If you see what ends up on hotel towels it becomes obvious that even showered bodies leave visible and invisible yuck on the towels.

Bouledeneige · 20/03/2021 21:27

I have 4 huge bath sheets that are used roughly in rotation b y 3 of us. One bathroom and not a lot of space for hanging all the towels. But we don't each have our own towel - though we probably each have favourites. I was aware that this is not what other people do and probably some people;le would think it rank - but I can't see any real physical impact on anyone.

I think this will change when we move and have two bathrooms - we are likely to have our own separate towels.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 20/03/2021 21:31

The idea of sharing towels gives me the heebie jeebies.

I use two towels (hair and body) and DH has one. We also have separate bath mats. One towel for the dog also. They all get washed weekly.

lljkk · 20/03/2021 21:31

We don't have a system & I couldn't tell you when the towels get washed. I use what is dry, ideally already hanging up.

I'm just grateful when the 16yr old washes at all... and grateful when the adult DD isn't in the shower for ages.

Serena1977 · 20/03/2021 21:33

DC have a towelling gown and one towel each which I put on their radiators in their rooms.

My and dh share and again are kept on radiator in our room. Washed once a week.

Hand towel is shafed on heated towel rail in bathroom and changed daily.

Kintsugi16 · 20/03/2021 21:33

DH and I share towels
DCs have their own and wash their own

NichyNoo · 20/03/2021 21:34

We’re lucky enough to have two bathrooms so space for four towels but when I was growing up it was the same two towels shared between two adults and two teens. Wasn’t a big issue in the 1990s Grin

Megan2018 · 20/03/2021 21:36

I’m lax on hygiene as a rule, but sharing towels is rank.
When I was a young child we didn’t have room for them all in the bathroom so we each had a rail on our bedroom radiator instead.

We have a large heated towel rail now and all towels fit. We have a second bathroom that we don’t use now but I expect when DD is bigger we will.

Kintsugi16 · 20/03/2021 21:37

I’m amazed that some of you presumably share a bed and have sex with your DH/partner but refuse to share a towel Confused

LadyDanburysCane · 20/03/2021 21:39

We each have our own bath towel. DS hangs his over the radiator in his bedroom. DH hangs his over the shower door in our shower room. I hang mine on a hook on the shower room door. When DD lived at home she chucked hers on the floor 😂. I don’t like the idea of sharing bath towels although would do so with DH if necessary because I know he is properly clean... DS...no way

GreenSlide · 20/03/2021 21:40

Just because I want his penis in me sometimes doesn't mean I want to rub his dead skin cells all over my body when I've just got clean.

LadyDanburysCane · 20/03/2021 21:41

The main reason for not sharing with DH is that we tend to shower one after the other so if he went first I’d have a wet towel to try to dry myself with....
