A question about bath towels

ViolentFairy · 20/03/2021 18:37

We are a family of four. We have one bathroom. Two bath towels out usually as not really space for more on the towel rail. We all use the same bath towels, wash them each week.
Is this a bit rank? What do other people do? It just occurred to me that maybe now the kids are teens they might use a towel each but I wondered what others do.
Thanks

We have our own bath towels. Between uses they are either hung up in the bathroom or hung up on a hook or on radiator in bedrooms.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 20/03/2021 19:01

Sorry but yes, that's rank. You should all have your own towels that only you use. I shudder just thinking of sharing a towel. You dry your face...what did they dry with that same bit of the towel. Ugh.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/03/2021 19:02

@redcandlelight

we use hand towels. they take a lot less space and dry quicker after use. hooks on the door and each of us has their own hook. towels go in the wash twice a week or so.
To dry your body?! What madness is this?! DH introduced me to the bath sheet (always had the mid-sized ones growing up) and it was a revelation, especially when pregnant.

Nice to have your own towel.

ds and dd used to take theirs back into their bedrooms (mainly as they would be wearing them, instead of a dressing gown, anyway) so they'd put them on the floor radiator there instead of the bathroom.

You cant wrap a hand towel round you when brushing your teeth after showering!
RaindropsSplashRainbows · 20/03/2021 19:05

We have a row of hooks on the door as well as a towel rail. Individual towels.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 20/03/2021 19:05

We have a box full of towels. It's a grab one and go. Sometimes they get hung up and used again. More often than not they get chucked in the washing basket. They all get washed once a week.

Bemoreme21 · 20/03/2021 19:06

I think sharing bath towels is rank. We have a tiny bathroom. DH and i have our own towels that get washed twice a week and stay on the bathroom radiator. The kids have hooded towels that are washed after each bath and folded and put away in their wardrobe.

DaphneBridgerton · 20/03/2021 19:07

Grew up sharing towels but they were all washed very regularly.

DH and I use separate bathrooms so we tend not to use the same towel. But neither of us would care if we did.

I wash the towels once a week.

starsinyourpies · 20/03/2021 19:07

That makes me feel a bit sick, I couldn't share towels, we have one each all different so identifiable. Two on towel rail and DCs have them on hooks on back of the door. Washed at least once a week.

TheSmallAssassin · 20/03/2021 19:09

Everyone has their own towel here and they get washed once a week. If nothing else, you don't want to spread things like athlete's foot, threadworms, conjunctivitis... Can't you get an over the door hook, or something?

Notaroadrunner · 20/03/2021 19:09

We all have our own towel. Kids use the bannister to hang theirs over. I think as your kids are now teens, you should all have your own towel. You could hang them on radiator in bedroom if you can't fit another hanging rail in the bathroom.

hotchocdrinker · 20/03/2021 19:13

When there were four of us sharing one bathroom each of us had our own bath towel. One person's bath towel was kept on the heated towel rail in the bathroom along with the communal hand towel. Then each child and I each had a radiator rail (a bit like these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Radiator-Airers-60cms-Sturdy-Plastic/dp/B008I0XYTS/ref=mpssa116?dchild=1&keywords=Radiator+Towel+Rail&qid=1616267507&sr=8-6

This meant that towels dried easily between uses.

speakout · 20/03/2021 19:14

I wouldn;t want to use anyone else's bath towels, and I wouldn't be happy about them sharing mine.

My family use their own bath towels- eac have their own colour, and they are dried out and used two or three times.
I use only hand towels and wash after each use.

ChameleonClara · 20/03/2021 19:17

One towel each, we have towel rails spaced out on the wall so everyone's can dry.

Wouldn't like to share with anyone.

Popcornbetty · 20/03/2021 19:17

‘ We each have our own towel. We are lucky that we have an ensuite as well as the bathroom so the 2 kids have their towels in the bathroom and dh and I hang our towels in the ensuite.’

That’s exactly what we do too. I like everyone to have own towel then they will get washed when needed all together with any hand towels and other face cloths etc in the house and fresh ones put out.

AnnaSW1 · 20/03/2021 19:17

We all have our own

ProcrastinationIsMySuperPower · 20/03/2021 19:17

I could not use a towel previously used my another person. Not even my littlest DD! We all have our own towels. We have a fairly tall fancy heated towel radiator, which can fit 3 easily, and hooks on the back of the bathroom door also for hair towels. My oldest DD who is a bit funny about anyone touching her towels keeps hers on her bedroom radiator. All washed weekly.

ChequerBoard · 20/03/2021 19:17

I only leave out a hand towel for drying hands after washing them.

All clean bath towels are kept in our rooms (mine & DHs in an ottoman at the foot or our beds, the DCs on shelves in their rooms) and we each get a clean towel when needed for a shower / bath etc.

Towels are either after washed after each use or hung on a hooks in the back of the bedroom door of the person using it.

Thewiseoneincognito · 20/03/2021 19:18

You share towels? Then wash once a week? Let me guess, the dogs sleep on the beds too.

My god.

BluntlySpoken · 20/03/2021 19:19

We have a full set, bath sheet, bath towel and hand
Dd age uses the bath towel then the teen. I then use for hair
Then I use sheet then dh uses.
Then gets washed every night.

megletsecond · 20/03/2021 19:19

Sharing towels is rank.

We pop our towels in our own rooms. We have hooks behind the doors. House is always warm.

BluntlySpoken · 20/03/2021 19:21

We don't have own simply because I can't stand stuff hanging around. On doors or banisters etc. They're in the rails in bathroom then washed fresh put in for the following day

Crystal90567 · 20/03/2021 19:23

I do share our 5 towels with the kids but think about having individual towels quite regularly. Problem is we'd really need 3 each to cope with my washing rotation.
I have two out and wash them daily or at least every other day. I do 2 washloads a day and towels go in on darks, lights or colours wash depending on their colour.

rwalker · 20/03/2021 19:24

Bath towels are like condoms they should only be used once
