A question about bath towels

ViolentFairy · 20/03/2021 18:37

We are a family of four. We have one bathroom. Two bath towels out usually as not really space for more on the towel rail. We all use the same bath towels, wash them each week.
Is this a bit rank? What do other people do? It just occurred to me that maybe now the kids are teens they might use a towel each but I wondered what others do.
Thanks

It wouldn't worry me using someone else's towel, per se, but I certainly wouldn't want to use a wet towel. However I get in the bath water after my DH has finished so I imagine most of you would think that was even worse than towel sharing.Blush

Dh and I share one bath towel and its washed about once a week. Kids usually get a new towel every time they bathe.

speedywotsit · 20/03/2021 19:25

sharing towels.....drying face with a towel that's been on DH feet or bum crack 🤮 or worse, DS smelly boy bits that need a lot of reminding to wash properly.....or when his verrucas flair up....

We have 2 radiators so can spread them about but previously have used towel rails in the bedroom etc.

Oh this is interesting that lots of families have their own towel, I have about 8 bath towels that live in the towel cupboard. There’s 2 of us, we just grab whichever one is at the top and then it gets washed after every use

IloveJudgeJudy · 20/03/2021 19:26

We have a different colour each. It's up to the owner of the towel to wash/put in the wash.

When the DC were younger there was an incident with impetigo. Since then we are supremely strict about not sharing towels, ever.

Curious....why do you and DH share a towel for a week but your kids get new towels every day?
LemonMeringueThreePointOneFour · 20/03/2021 19:27

Waiting for someone to come along to say that is revolting and all towels should be washed every hour, on the hour, whether or not they've been used.

Lissy50 · 20/03/2021 19:27

We use a towel each and are washed every day.

Family of 7 here. I have a floor to ceiling shelving unit outside the bathroom. All towels are rolled up and stored here with a basket for flannels. Everyone takes a fresh one each time and puts in laundry basket after use.

CommanderBurnham · 20/03/2021 19:30

We have our own towels. Mine and DH dry on the towel radiator, the DCs on the bannister rail or on hooks at the back of their doors.

Sharing towels can spread diseases.

BikeRunSki · 20/03/2021 19:31

We are 4. We have 4 hooks, and different coloured towels each.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 20/03/2021 19:31

One bath sheet each, everyone has their own colour. They go on the radiator in the bathroom/bedroom after use then back to the towel rail on the bathroom door (sometimes). Washed every week or 2

6heartsforhumphrey · 20/03/2021 19:31

We have our own towels, I use mine more than once.

Once had a horror when sharing towels that I dried someone else's pube onto me Shock. This was a long time ago but I've had a thing about having my own towel ever since.

So no sharing of towels in here other than the hand towel for use after hand washing.

CinnamonStar · 20/03/2021 19:34

We use one each - all our towels are different colours.
Change once a week.

DH and I keep ours in the bathroom, Dc keep theirs in their bedrooms on the floor radiator.

We will get any colour of clean towel out of the cupboard, but do tend to have a favourite colour that we generally use.

hiredandsqueak · 20/03/2021 19:34

Only a hand towel in the bathroom that I change daily. We get a towel from the airing cupboard when we go for a shower or bath. Towel then gets put in the wash. I've never reused towels, when I lived at home dm did the same.

DancesWithDaffodils · 20/03/2021 19:36

Towel each! Gives it chance to dry before its reused.
On radiator or hooks on back of door between uses.

KeyboardPen · 20/03/2021 19:39

Own towels. Recently bought some hammam towels as they dry so much quicker than bath sheets

Zubla · 20/03/2021 19:41

@LubaLuca

I wouldn't be happy sharing a towel that goes all over someone else's body. My in-laws are very weird and don't have a hand towel in their bathroom - you have to dry your hands on one of their bath towels. I can never help wondering if the corner I'm using is the bit FIL used earlier on his pubes, which makes me want to wash my hands again.
I’m weak laughing 😂
TroysMammy · 20/03/2021 19:42

Why do people use a bath towel once and wash it? Surely you are clean when you come out of the bath/shower.

Flibbitygibbit · 20/03/2021 19:43

Two in my household. Myself and son. He will use at least two towels every day, clean ones. Drives me nuts !

Sarcobaleno · 20/03/2021 19:44

Another vote for towel each, hung up in bedrooms if no space in the bathroom. Hook on bedroom door if needs be.

MrsTophamHat · 20/03/2021 19:45

We all share at the moment and dry them over the banister but our children are both under 4. I do think as we get older we might get a colour set each.

I wonder that too. Not really good for the environment is it.
Crowsaregreat · 20/03/2021 19:48

It boggles my mind that people wash their towels after a single use. Is it the same people who only wear pyjamas once and bleach their toilets twice a day and disinfect everything every ten minutes?

We have our own towels that get washed when I can be arsed, it probably works out about every ten days to two weeks. I do the beds on roughly the same schedule.

notalwaysalondoner · 20/03/2021 19:48

A towel per family member in a different colour so they don’t get mixed up. Washed weekly.
