A question about bath towels

ViolentFairy · 20/03/2021 18:37

We are a family of four. We have one bathroom. Two bath towels out usually as not really space for more on the towel rail. We all use the same bath towels, wash them each week.
Is this a bit rank? What do other people do? It just occurred to me that maybe now the kids are teens they might use a towel each but I wondered what others do.
Thanks

@Flibbitygibbit

Two in my household. Myself and son. He will use at least two towels every day, clean ones. Drives me nuts !
Give them a quick tumble dry, and hand them back to him. He'll never know.

Thread worms are rife in most schools.
Towels sharing spreads the little wrigglers.
It also spreads athlete's foot, thrush, ring worm and warts.

bluebellscorner · 20/03/2021 19:49

Definitely own towels

I don't even like using the shower straight after someone because it is steamed up and damp, I can't imagine using anyone's wet towel 🤮

raspberryk · 20/03/2021 19:52

Eww Envy, own towels in this house washed after a few uses, we have different colours so we don’t get mixed up and they hang on hooks in the bathroom.

We are a family of 2 adults and 4 kids and we share towels. I'm not bothered about sharing towels with my husband and kids, but we have more than 2 in use, probably about 6 and they get washed twice a week.

Fountainsoftea · 20/03/2021 20:06

Towelling bathrobes. Too many towels in assorted colours.

Dh's scratchy, thick,tatty heritage towel.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 20/03/2021 20:06

Definitely own towels. Each has their own colour. Or, shades of a colour.

If there wasn't room in the bathroom I'd put radiator drying racks in the bedrooms.

As a child we all had our own colour towels too, the used towels went in the airing cupboard, but we don't have one of those here😟

SplendidSuns1000 · 20/03/2021 20:08

Own towels. Always have since I was a kid. We used to hang them on the back of our kitchen chairs or over a door to dry them. They wouldn't dry very well in the bathroom due to the steam of the shower/bath. In my house now I hang them in the airing cupboard. I wash them after every 3/4 uses.

crystalcherry87 · 20/03/2021 20:13

I throw them in the tumble dryer or hang on the heated airer between uses so no one has to use a damp towel.

firstimemamma · 20/03/2021 20:15

Family of 3. Each have our own bath towel. They get washed twice a week (mon and thurs). There's also a hand towel in the bathroom that gets washed every 2 or 3 days. Towels just get chucked in with the normal laundry.

Atalune · 20/03/2021 20:17

Own towels here. Hung on the door, peg or towel rail. Washed 2/3 times a week. We have lots of big big bath towels. So it’s easy and pleasant to have a fresh one every other day.

Children’s are washed less often... Dd 9 showers every 2/3 days and DS is about the same.

Saltyslug · 20/03/2021 20:21

Mine all have their own towel. All the household towels are different with different patterns and colours so not mixed up. We also have some guest towels and hand towels

Sparrowfeeder · 20/03/2021 20:22

Separate towels for sure. Sharing is a bit rank imho. DP at one point contracted a notifiable infectious disease and they were really clear that sharing towels was a no-no. Even clean bodies might transmit some ‘matter’. What if one of you got norovirus for example? We have our own towels and wash weekly.

Sparrowfeeder · 20/03/2021 20:23

(I am not a superclean ocd person by any means but that seems rudimentary to me, but we are all different Grin)

1forAll74 · 20/03/2021 20:24

It's very odd, that lots of people wash their towels after just using them once. I use towels a few times, before I decide to wash them, I dry them on the radiator after use,as can't abide towels hanging over bannisters, or any other random places..

Spillanelle · 20/03/2021 20:25

I think you all need your own towels, particularly as they are teenagers. I wouldn’t want to use a towel my dad had just wiped his arse with.

We use one of those over the door towel rails that you can hang four towels on.

missbridgerton · 20/03/2021 20:26

DH and I have got our own bathroom and as he's an arse for wiping toothpaste all over the towels, we've got his and hers. And he knows he needs to run very fast if I find toothpaste smeared on mine!! I change them every 3 or 4 days.

Our DD and her BF have got an airing cupboard full of towels and they use a clean one or two each time then wash it. Drives me fucking mad as the drier is always full of half damp towels............

IFoundMyselfInThisBar · 20/03/2021 20:27

I think everyone should have their own towel. We usually wash them after each use as I hate towels hanging around. Sometimes my partner and son use them a couple of times before washing and they hang them in the bathroom or on a hook on the bedroom door.

OverByYer · 20/03/2021 20:29

We have our own towels, me and DH hang ours up in the en suite. The kids dry theirs on the radiator in their bedrooms

LazyDaisy10 · 20/03/2021 20:29

I used to share towels then I read a similar post on mumsnet where everyone said it was rank. Now we have our own colour towel each. To be honest its much easier and more hygienic.

GreenSlide · 20/03/2021 20:31

In my ideal world we would have a towel each, use it a few times, then wash.

In reality I use my towel, hang it up to dry, then DH uses it after me and folds it neatly before hanging it up which means it doesn't dry and goes stinky and needs washed then Envy

RubyFakeLips · 20/03/2021 20:31

@user1468105798

Family of 7 here. I have a floor to ceiling shelving unit outside the bathroom. All towels are rolled up and stored here with a basket for flannels. Everyone takes a fresh one each time and puts in laundry basket after use.
Also family of 7, this is what we do in the bathroom cupboard. Does mean buying quite a lot of towels but at least they’re all the same and need to worry about making sure everyone’s specific towels are washed.

DH and I have an en-suite and have posh towels in there Shock

raincamepouringdown · 20/03/2021 20:31

One each. I won't share a towel.

I dry mine on a hanger on a curtain rail over a radiator.
