Borrowing uniform from school tomorrow

BrighleyS · 07/03/2021 17:56

Hi
I'm new and just joined really just to ask advice/Query

Is anyone else having to make their kids borrow uniform from school for the first few days till we can get new stuff.

I realise it was totally irresponsible not to check before tonight. Like ridiculous really!

Anyway, My daughters Skirt, tights etc won't be ready in time etc, Am I unresonable to make her loan spare ones from the school, just for Tomorrow.

Anyone else doing this? If so What are you having to borrow.

I want to prove to her she won't be the only one!

How won't they be ready?

Growth spurt so you need to order new but didn't realise or something else?

The school will probably help when you explain but I wouldn't expect there to be many children needing to borrow uniform. Your DD doesn't need to let her friends know if she is worried about that, the teachers will be discreet.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/03/2021 17:59

I’ve never heard of borrowing uniform from school. Are you sure that they’re offering it as an option? What if everyone turns up needing uniform?

Can she really not fit in it at all? Like, it’s a bit snug but do-able for a few days until her new stuff arrives? Mine have grown since they last went to school mid December but they can get in it. As the one uniform supplier isn’t even open (no idea when they will be either) and school has said that normal uniform rules apply, they’ll be fitting into what we have here already.

BrighleyS · 07/03/2021 18:01

The school has spares they loan if they turn up in the wrong thing etc. and then wash /return etc

One need repairing - Only found this out tonight, And could not get to the shops before tomorrow morning and the other skirt is too short now for what would be allowed

You can't send her to school in her own clothes and expect the school to lend her uniform. They may not even have anything in her size. You need to make do with what you have and go to Tesco tomorrow to get some generic stuff in her size.

I have asked in advance if its possible

We are always happy to lend uniform at school but dont have a lot in some sizes and none in others.

MazekeenSmith · 07/03/2021 18:03

Do you have needle and thread?
Repair the broken one or let down the hem of the short one. Just iron it flat without hemming if you don't have needle and thread.

Are you a teacher? How often do they actually loan stuff out like skirts etc?

I have emailled the school to inform them

I haven't heard of schools lending pupils clothes either but all over the country there will be children without the full school uniforms. The school knows that I wouldn't be too worried, I'd make every effort to sort it out as soon as possible given the circumstances.

Really? They dont keep spares for accidents etc?

Focus on the one that needs repairing - it’s only 6pm. Get that done tonight for tomorrow and then you can get to a supermarket tomorrow for the rest..

Surely if she turns up in her own clothes then changes to school uniform her friends will know anyway?

Sirzy · 07/03/2021 18:05

Are school actually loaning things at the moment?

Surely you can a make do and mends with what you have for now?

DelurkingAJ · 07/03/2021 18:05

The Infants DS2 goes to has sent an email saying that if the uniform doesn’t fit, don’t panic and come in stuff that’s as close as possible. We’re fine because we had DS1’s old stuff in the attic but I can see how parents may have been caught out (I learnt my less when DS1 grew an inch overnight, or so it felt, in Reception and I couldn’t find trousers in any of the local supermarkets or shops because it wasn’t September! I can’t imagine how much more restricted supply may be at the moment).

steppemum · 07/03/2021 18:06

the question is really - do they have it to borrow?
Our primary school didn't the second hand uniform lived in my gararge between sales (but I would have happily brought some up to school for you)
and the secondarioes my kids go to are not allowed to deal with the second hand uniform at the moment, it comes out once a term for a sale under strict covid restrictions.

I would send her in in the closest thing you have, black leggings, or dark jeans, or even in her pe kit/tracksuit bottoms.

All school suppliers round here are closed, so unless it is supermarket trousers/skirt no-one can replace anyway.

BrighleyS · 07/03/2021 18:06

Yes they do have spares to be borrowed

OP posts:
Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/03/2021 18:06

Even if you’ve asked in advance if it’s possible you won’t get a reply until tomorrow morning.
You need to sort something tonight. Could she borrow anything from a local friend?

Rillington · 07/03/2021 18:06

Never heard of schools loaning uniform. You have had weeks to get it ready.

m0therofdragons · 07/03/2021 18:07

How much has she grown since December? Dd doesn’t gave a blazer as last term they said don’t worry and she’d grown out of her one. I didn’t really want to spend £50 and then spend most of the term isolating but it seems they want blazers now. School shop isn’t open yet but is apparently opening online on Monday. I have no idea what size she needs but she can’t try them on Confused

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 07/03/2021 18:07

Ours wear their PE kit if they have an accident.
I’d just make do with what I had tomorrow while I sort something else.

Divebar2021 · 07/03/2021 18:07

Yes I learned from lockdown one and checked sizes last week. I have had to buy plain polo shirts because M&S who provide the embroidered version have not stocked them since last July. A lot of shops were out of stock of the grey skirts which is what I needed but I got some from Next. Presumably there has been a last minute rush. The school have sent out an email saying to send them in as much uniform as possible but where unable to to opt for plain colours.

DelurkingAJ · 07/03/2021 18:07

I’m gently weeping with laughter at the idea that local supermarkets will magically have stock of the size OP needs in. I spent two weeks last term trying to find grey socks in the next size up for DS1.

Divebar2021 · 07/03/2021 18:08

What is it you’re missing? I’d put a message out of a class email / WhatsApp if you have one.

MrsSugar · 07/03/2021 18:08

Couldn’t you just nip you an Asda/Tesco/Sainsbury’s and buy a cheap skirt n tights ? I wouldn’t send my child to school and gave her borrow uniform. Not in a pandemic and probably not anyway as kids can be pretty mean !

FlyingBurrito · 07/03/2021 18:08

No, in all my years of having children at school they've never borrowed any uniform but obviously I believe you if you say yours does

Laughing at me or their suggestions?
