Borrowing uniform from school tomorrow

BrighleyS · 07/03/2021 17:56

Hi
I'm new and just joined really just to ask advice/Query

Is anyone else having to make their kids borrow uniform from school for the first few days till we can get new stuff.

I realise it was totally irresponsible not to check before tonight. Like ridiculous really!

Anyway, My daughters Skirt, tights etc won't be ready in time etc, Am I unresonable to make her loan spare ones from the school, just for Tomorrow.

Anyone else doing this? If so What are you having to borrow.

I want to prove to her she won't be the only one!

spares for accidents - not really. Kids kept their pe kits in school, and usually changed into pe shorts/tracksuit if they had an accident.
School kept a few things, but rarely skirts, more likely tracksuits as they were unisex and flexible with sizez and didn't need tights etc

(I am ex teacher)

BrighleyS · 07/03/2021 18:09

Yeah its the skirt we mean not the tights

And they have been cleaned before and after each use!!

So she’ll have to go in and go straight to the office to get changed?

How old is the child? I think I nursery/infants keep spares in case of toilet accidents but I don’t think it’s the norm that parents send kids in expecting the school to clothe them. It’s pretty poor form from you not to have their uniforms ready, we all knew this day was coming for weeks!

BrighleyS · 07/03/2021 18:11

Since people are saying
Have you considered maybe we can't go to a supermarket easily and maybe we have health issues where risk of covid etc?????

Don’t feel bad OP! Life is busy and hectic and I’ll be damned if any of the supermarkets are stocking my girls sizes at the moment! Our school has previously worn uniform that is in good condition that you can buy at a cheaper price, maybe yours will have the same?

I am shielding and have used Amazon/Online ordering. No excuse for your child to have to borrow uniform.

steppemum · 07/03/2021 18:14

If she is wearing it with thick wooly tights, it really doesn't matter if it is a bit short.
(I am assuming primary age here from your description)

Mend the one that needs mending.
or wear the short one with tights
or wear the short one with leggings under it, whish is a great option if you have plain dark leggings.
or send her in in something that will do for tomorrow
or nip out to late night tescos (but liklihood of finding what you need is small as there has beena rush on)
or text round class mates and see if someone can lend you one

While I totally get that your school does have some to lend out, I think the likelihood of them having exactly what you need is small. I would try and find a workable option before you turn up at the school office, and as others have said, she really will not be the only one.

How much have they grown in 2 months? What is it they are missing? It seems a bit cruel tbh because the spare uniform the school have is usually ill fitting and screams 'I've wet myself'

Can you not send them in some black trousers or whatever most appropriate clothing items you have and write a note? Id think the school might be more flexible right now

Nextyearwillbefun · 07/03/2021 18:14

I think borrow off a friend not school- that's embarrassing.

DIshedUp · 07/03/2021 18:14

Whats wrong with the old skirt?

Soontobe60 · 07/03/2021 18:15

It’s not like Boris failed to tell us 2 weeks ago that schools would open tomorrow is it?

You’re going to have to pop to Asda first thing in the morning to kit her out!

They are being flexible, offering to loan her a skirt that fits!!!

How does it say 'ive wet myself' ??

A couple of people have posted on our local FB page this week asking if anyone has any uniform in certain sizes. Could you do this?

BrighleyS · 07/03/2021 18:16

For all those saying borrow from a friend

How is that any different from what i'm asking???!!

HairyChin · 07/03/2021 18:18

Bless you, don't stress over it too much.
It'll be fine.

However, maybe for future reference, just try to get a bit more organised perhaps... we have had two weeks notice of schools going back.

Hope all goes well

MissDollyMix · 07/03/2021 18:18

Can you not borrow uniform from another parent? I’d be more than happy to lend/give uniform to another parent if they asked. My ds is going in next week in borrowed school sweaters. He’s yr6 and leaving in July, there was no way I could justify forking out for new, fortunately a kind friend who’s son’s are between my ds’s size was happy to loan us some for a bit.

LadyCatStark · 07/03/2021 18:19

This would cause DS a huge amount of stress and embarrassment! I’d send her in the too short skirt as long as it can be done up around her waist. How short can it have got in 2 months?? Either that or black trousers or leggings.

She will only wear skirts to school

It's not. But you are assuming that the school will have her size. AND that the other 20 parents who also asked haven;t got there first.

It is a safer option to borrow from someone before you turn up and school tomorrow.

School uniform is generic, standard grey skirt, no-one will know who it is borrowed from, office or friend. It will not look remotely like 'I've wet myself'

If you borrow from a friend she'll turn up to school in uniform like her friends and not need to change her clothes when she gets there.
IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 07/03/2021 18:20

Ours would have changed in to PE kit if they had an accident, the school don’t stock spare uniform for parents.

The date for return has been known for weeks. It’s not like they only announced it yesterday,

MrsPnut · 07/03/2021 18:20

My daughter tried on her school uniform on Friday and her trousers were far too big around the waist as she’s lost weight during lockdown.

Next have managed to deliver next day some black slim legged trousers that fit a 5’ 11” beanpole.
You could still manage to get a delivery for tomorrow, which whilst not in time for the first day will at least mean it is only one day.

Is there a school whatsapp group you could ask for a skirt to be loaned for tomorrow?
