Borrowing uniform from school tomorrow

BrighleyS · 07/03/2021 17:56

Hi
I'm new and just joined really just to ask advice/Query

Is anyone else having to make their kids borrow uniform from school for the first few days till we can get new stuff.

I realise it was totally irresponsible not to check before tonight. Like ridiculous really!

Anyway, My daughters Skirt, tights etc won't be ready in time etc, Am I unresonable to make her loan spare ones from the school, just for Tomorrow.

Anyone else doing this? If so What are you having to borrow.

I want to prove to her she won't be the only one!

Hopefully they’ll have one that fits her better than her current slightly too short one... it’ll be hard to tell without seeing them.

MrsPnut · 07/03/2021 18:48

Your poor daughter, it will be social suicide to wear lost property uniform at secondary school.

peak2021 · 07/03/2021 18:48

Seems as if the school can help. Personally I think they should be accepting of a slightly short skirt (with thick tights perhaps?) for a couple of days given that shops are closed.

I'm sure you will not leave things so late in future.

That's great news OP, and a reminder to a few on here that this is chat not AIBU.

Thank God mine is older than this now but in our nearest supermarket (Sainsbury's), they had girls summer dresses and grey shorts for boys. That's it.

NerrSnerr · 07/03/2021 18:51

I have just seen the bit on the OP saying 'I want to prove to her she won't be the only one'. It is entirely possible she will be. It sounds like she's worried about it. Why not try and see if you can get a skirt from someone local so she's not the kid wearing a lost property skirt.

MrsPnut · 07/03/2021 18:51

Did you not check it when you laundered it?

CoronaIsShit · 07/03/2021 18:52

I don’t think it’s common to borrow uniform in secondary school. The likelihood of accidents is very small!

They may have spares parents have passed on as their DC grew out of them to be given to parents who are struggling to buy uniform (I always used to give my DCs secondary school outgrown skirts, trousers and blazers).

How do you know your DDs school have the correct stuff for her if you only emailed them tonight?

I would send her in whatever uniform you have. I’m sure they won’t sanction her for an incorrect length skirt in the current climate. You can give her a note saying she’s grown more than you thought she would and a new skirt is on order.

The school have replied to the op’s email.

IWishIWasABaller · 07/03/2021 18:55

I don't understand why you can't repair the one you already have ?

nimbuscloud · 07/03/2021 18:55

Maybe she does not have a needle and thread?

kowari · 07/03/2021 18:56

Our school usually have loads of spares etc but have actually got rid of it all because of Covid.
This 'because of Covid' stuff is getting beyond ridiculous Confused.

Surely schools will have enough to worry about tomorrow? There have been a couple of weeks to sort this out - order online, visit the shops, borrow from a friend or neighbour, ask a relative. It’s a pretty poor show, OP. I know some shops haven’t had certain items - M&S didn’t have the school trousers we needed so had to order online from Sainsbury’s. But - you’ve had the time to sort this. I can’t help feeling a bit sorry for your DC.

BrighleyS · 07/03/2021 18:58

I really wish I had never asked

What does your daughter think, OP?

You say you want to prove to her she won’t be the only one but I’m afraid she probably will. I work in a secondary school and we are expecting uniform to be a bit hotchpotch for a while.

Starlightstarbright1 · 07/03/2021 19:09

Op- many people can't believe that any school does things differently....but as the way your school does things differently to the majority- you won't get the answer you want.

My ds goes to a none uniform school now but at primary if shoes broke he just went in trainers- but some school are far more dramatic.

missingeu · 07/03/2021 19:12

After weeks off asking DS (15) to try his uniform on. He did today - and boy has he grown.

I had to do an ASOS order for white shirt and just brought a new blazer.

I've written a note to explain lack of blazer.

Imagine lots off people are in the same position.

kowari · 07/03/2021 19:13

If she was in too small uniform then she wouldn't be the only one. Second hand isn't a problem either. I bought DS some polo shirts from the uniform pool the other week, by email and he picked them up from the office. I doubt anyone else will be turning up in non uniform and borrowing uniform on the day though.

Magnificentmug12 · 07/03/2021 19:15

Everyone was given two weeks notice!? You should have been better prepared.

I would send her in in pe kit.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 07/03/2021 19:18

Our primary have said they're not giving out spares at the minute due to Covid and not wanting to risk cross contam8nation.

Magnificentmug12 · 07/03/2021 19:19

Just seen she is in secondary school! Ouch, that’s very embarrassing and I don’t think you would be able to convince her she won’t be the only one because she probably will.

Borrowing from the school makes you look poor (even if you are rich) and kids can be so so cruel.

You should have done better. I would give her the day of sick if it was me and get her the uniform because you should not make her pay in embarrassment for your failure.
