Hi
I'm new and just joined really just to ask advice/Query

Is anyone else having to make their kids borrow uniform from school for the first few days till we can get new stuff.

I realise it was totally irresponsible not to check before tonight. Like ridiculous really!

Anyway, My daughters Skirt, tights etc won't be ready in time etc, Am I unresonable to make her loan spare ones from the school, just for Tomorrow.

Anyone else doing this? If so What are you having to borrow.

I want to prove to her she won't be the only one!

It's really not that big a deal. OP hasn't got what she needs. OP asks school to help. They say no problem. OP really doesn't need to be tearing her hair out for another skirt.

Surely a conversation with her friends would go something like this:
Why are you wearing your jeans on the way to school?
My skirt is too short
Oh right. So... (changes topic)

OP if it's any consolation, I spent ages this afternoon looking for a plimsol. Luckily we now have both in the PE bag!

A child is more likely to stand out for wearing non-uniform items than second hand/supplied by the school items (after all, how would the other pupils know it's borrowed?)
Absolutely nothing wrong with second hand. Being seen borrowing uniform on the day could be embarrassing for a teen though. If they are seen in non uniform, then later in uniform then others would know.

TheVolturi · 07/03/2021 20:31

Secondary! She will be mortified no doubt. Surely just send her in the one she's got even if it is a bit too short, with tights or something it will be fine, and get a new one asap. I would have been so anxious at her age in this situation. My mum regularly caused me embarrassment like this, like sending me in uniform on non uniform day because I had no decent or clean clothes to wear. Horrible.

Mine are going in with school tops and joggers and trainers.

They've out grown the school shoes and trousers and I'm still waiting for the online delivery to arrive. I'm not worried. We're in a pandemic!

nitsandwormsdodger · 07/03/2021 20:33

I would send her in what you have there there will be lots of folk waiting for online deliveries post has been very slow in places

nitsandwormsdodger · 07/03/2021 20:35

Have you asked her friends if they can lend
She can always pull skirt as low as she can
Most teen girls I know where their skirt too short

I haven’t read all replies but I’m a secondary teacher. My school loans out uniform on a fairly regular basis. The vast majority have no note from a parent - they just turn up without it and we sort them out (a lot of ours are vulnerable and we don’t want to turn them away). There’s no stigma either.

AuditAngel · 07/03/2021 20:49

I love the idea that Amazon can sort it all! Our secondary has one supplier. That said, one mum ordered uniform and it arrived next day, mind you, for what it costs, so it should!

DelurkingAJ · 07/03/2021 21:03

Sorry, OP, laughing at the idea, definitely not at you. I think you’re being both realistic and sensible!

steppemum · 08/03/2021 10:05

wow.

OP, you asked. Lots of people gave you perfectly reasonbale answers
(are you sure they have it, can you borrow from friend, can you fix it etc.)

In fact there were lots of helpful suggestions, and you keep coming back, not answering questions (page 7 before we discover she is secondary which makes a huge difference), not giving full information (like the fact that school had replied and said they had the right size available to borrow) and then getting upset at people who don't agree with you.

You even think everyone is calling you evil!

Not sure what planet you are on, but if you ask a question, expect people to give their opinion and answer, don't expect everyone to just say yes dear and agree with you!
