Things you do that your Mother doesn't approve of/thinks are unladylike

My mother thinks it's terrible that I drink beer. Ladies don't drink beer. I'm 52 and she still pouts when she knows I've had some!

Any other unladylike ladies on here?

Sunbathing outside the front of the house.
Hanging knickers on the washing line where neighbours might see them!

Visible bra straps under a vest top 🙄

In my mother's case, the fact that I existed was frequently a source of friction!
In the case of my MIL, the fact that I didn't take DH's name was not popular!

Letting my DCs bring their duvets down to the living room to watch TV under on the weekend

Eating anywhere other than the kitchen. Being tipsy.

Oh dear!!

Recently has been not dyeing my hair 😱 and not wearing shape-wear after giving birth

Wearing Doc Martens. They are apparently "terrible".

Getting a takeaway. I kid you not.

Allowing my dc to make their own choices about food and clothes from a young age.
Been nc for her excess comments and criticism...

eyeliner only to the middle of eye, eyeliner all the way across is common apparently. Wearing anklets or toe rings are for 'certain' ladies, respectable ladies shouldn't wear them.

I am a disappointment.

My mum's a feminist. She never expected me to be a lady. I love my mum.

Her greatest wish for me was that I might be a PA to someone important. Instead I am the “someone important”. It’s deeply disappointing and distressing to her. She lies to friends and family to downplay my job

Women not wearing tights with skirts = looking slovenly.

My mother was horrified that I don’t iron my husband’s shirts.

(She hates ironing and pays someone to do her ironing!)

Swear.
(She doesn't know my kids swear around me, that would possibly be fatal - for which of us, I don't know. And I've told them they're on their own if they forget themselves and swear around their grandmother).
We also do fart humour. Within the family. Apparently come across very strait-laced and prudish without it.
Have very frank and broad discussions about sex with the girls.

I have tattoos my mother is appalled although she would be appalled if I was a man as well so technically its not that its not ladylike she just thinks they are common

For my grandmother- drinking from a pint glass. She couldn’t possibly. She’ll have two half pints. But she couldn’t possibly drink a pint.

Too much exercise. apparently I look 'sinewy' which is unattractive.

Why do I have to exercise so much? She uses it like a put down!

At 39 years old I’ve never once sworn in front of my mum.
None of my DC would ever swear in front of me either. I think it’s more of a respect thing than a ‘ladylike’ thing though

To be honest , visible bra straps are nasty, as is wearing any colour underwear other than flesh tone under a white top or trousers.
