Things you do that your Mother doesn't approve of/thinks are unladylike

My mother thinks it's terrible that I drink beer. Ladies don't drink beer. I'm 52 and she still pouts when she knows I've had some!

Any other unladylike ladies on here?

Not ironing DH’s work shirts (I don’t iton anything at all), saying the word ‘fart’ and keeping my own name when I married. That last one blew her mond, apparently I am stubborn and a militant feminist with ‘funny ideas’

underwear other than gigantic fine-rib white cotton pants and plain white bras.

Ankle bracelets. Sure sign of prostitution.

Mine'll swear in front of me, but they know there are certain words and phrases that will get them 'the look', and they generally restrain themselves.
I swear in front of Mum, but only certain words, and I'm very privileged, lol.

My girls would never swear at me, and I would never swear at my mother.

My piercings. Just fairly standard ear piercings. I have a few but not covered!

Oh, the list!

• drinking straight from a bottle. This is disgusting. Even, or perhaps especially, if it has a top designed to drink from.
• having tampax visible in my loo.
• skirts above the knee. She wouldn't say so, but she judges.
• visible cleavage (she's had to give up on this one).
• visible makeup.
• eating a meal not sitting at the table
• dipping biscuits in tea (I don't do this but DP does)

To be honest , visible bra straps are nasty, as is wearing any colour underwear other than flesh tone under a white top or trousers.

Depends though - flesh tone shows up if your skin's dark; weirdly, sometimes a red bra actually looks better.

Have a job, even though I have children and DH should support us.

The fact my children aren't dressed by 8am on the weekends
The fact I don't iron everything, including my husband's underwear
My inability to keep a show home (despite her being the one buying the excessive amount of clothes, books and toys for the children)
The fact I camp.

Both my DPs are long gone, but my DF thought it very unladylike for a woman to drink pints. So it had to be two halves, one after the other. Also, in the days when one might, having a fag in the street.

According to my DM, wearing anything that showed your bra straps was 😱. I’m afraid to say that I agree with her, but then I’m pretty ancient myself.

Tattoos (I have 4)
My multiple piercings...she threw an absolute fit when I got a second piercing in m years...I was 20 at the time....I now have 13 in one ear!
Use tampons
Leave said tampons somewhere a man...might see them! (horror!)
Letting a man buy said tampons! (double horror!)

Occasionally taking my kids to MacDonalds. My posh cousin would 'never' do that. I know for a fact that she does! Eating curry. Having piercings. Occasionally swearing. That my 18 year old drinks alcohol. Screen time for my kids, I could honestly be here all day,

I don't smoke any longer - but in 30 years of being a smoker I could never enjoy a cigarette in the street.

Smoking in the street is common ... (My mother. A non smoker)

Eating crisps out of a bag instead of a little bowl
Drinking out of a bottle or can
Tattoos
Any part of a bra showing the more awkward the top the worse it is
Nail art

That sometimes I don't wear a bra. Free the nip I say.

Apparently my boobs are 'too big and saggy' to go braless. I say don't look then

Cycling while pregnant

Also using a menstrual cup (best thing I ever did btw)

My piercings (plenty including an industrial in my ear)

I'm a similar age and my mum has mellowed, these days but, amongst other things, I wasn't allowed trousers until I was 10 or so. She probably relented after despairing of telling me t sit with my legs together, constantly 🤣

@Mol1628 @noirchatsdeux Both your mothers would have a heart attack if they saw me if they even dislike ear piercings. I have 17 piercings and 5 of them are on my face😂 although my mam hasn’t said much about them, my nana frequently tells me I’d be better looking without them, haha!

My mam can’t stand me swearing (I do swear a ridiculous amount tbf, I blame my dad, he’s the same) she can’t stand me farting and she frequently bollocks me for sitting with my my legs wide open, think she expects me to sit crossed legged all the time but it just ain’t happening. She frequently tells me I should of been born a boy😂

Wear large earrings (occasionally).

Smoking in the street is common apparently.I don't smoke now but she was appalled when she saw me do it years ago.

I lied I don’t have 17, forgot about my nipples. Make that 19 in total🤣

Have a paid job during times of high unemployment.

Not making my dh a pack lunch for work,
Not doing ironing,
Not wearing lipstick every day

@RatsolutelyFabulous I’m planning on getting a nostril piercing once piercing places open up again. I fear she might disown me at 32 😅
