Paul Nicholls - I'm so sad for him.

Posting on AIBU for traffic.

I saw a picture of Paul Nicholls the actor in the paper recently and I've never felt so heart broken for a celebrity before.

As an actor he is 'hit and miss' for me.
I liked him in Earthfast and The Biz when I was a kid and he was a kid.
Found him a bit irritating in EastEnders but I guess that was his character.
Didn't like him at all in most of what he has done to be honest.

However, seeing him in his recent pictures looking so thin and frail almost made me cry.

People were commenting on him being a drink and drugs fiend, no sympathy for him at all.

He's been in showbiz since he was 10 years old or something, he's probably never had any real friends. A few years ago the press were full of praise for him, women drooling all over him.

Now when he seems to have lost the battle to drink or drugs or is recovering from them as well as his horrific accident in Thailand, he has become an object of ridicule :(

I bet he had lots of 'friends' when he had money and acting work. Wonder where all those people are now?!

The woman he is with is being called all sorts of names for being with him, like he doesn't deserve somebody to love him.

The acting industry and the BBC / EastEnders have failed this guy. Yes, he has a responsibility for his own actions, but when you've been hooked on substances from a young age it must be hell to break away from.

It makes me sick that people like him are splattered all over posters and TV but once they are on the decline nothing is ever done to help them.

PN has lost his looks, his nose looks like it has collapsed, he'll never get the TV work he once did and now he isn't even allowed to live a peaceful life with a woman!

I hate the gutter press.

I can’t get ‘Grandma’s Party Tonight‘ out my head now. I actually don’t know who you’re talking about OP but it sounds like he’s been through a lot whoever he is.
Grandma's Party Tonight is the first thing that popped into my head too (and now it's bloody stuck there). 😂

Of course now I realise that I was thinking of Paul Nicholas and I used to love him in Just Good Friends. Also saw him in Jesus Christ Superstar back in the 70s.

Anyway I digress as This thread is about Paul Nicholls who was apparently dumped by his lap dancer girlfriend 2 days ago, who was previously the girlfriend of his mate who put Paul up when he was homeless then Paul Nicholls repaid said mate by copping off with lap dancer girlfriend who had a baby with the mate.

I'd like to think that Paul Nicholas would not have behaved in such a caddish way although it appears he has 6 children by 4 different women and some relationship overlaps, so who knows.

How very different from the home life of our own dear Queen.

My student house in 1996 we were all obsessed with him he was so good looking and my housemate worked in WHSmith at Manchester Piccadilly and always had celebrities popping in on the way to and from trains and one day she came in from work and screamed that he had been in- it was a uni hi light! It is sad but i wonder if partly it's natural old age- I've a theory that we all have a natural 'peak' and maybe Paul Nichols was as a teenager and he's just faded a bit- he's still not bad looking but was drop dead pin up looks in his early 20s- a bit like boy band types- mark Owen etc and those pin up looks don't always work as well as they age. That sounds really ageist but I just mean he still looks fine just when comparing at his 'peak' when he was extremely good looking it's a contrast.

I am about the same age as him. His aging is not natural, it's been accelerated, I don't know anyone that looks as old as he does that are in their late thirties / early forties. He's the one with the money, he should be looking good. Unfortunately, his face has the tell tale signs of someone that perhaps doesn't look after themselves healthily. That is what makes me sad, the showbiz industry puts pressures on these actors and then washes their hands of them. Why don't they get any support for their issues, especially the ones that started out as child actors.
If you look at the footage of his Thailand rescue, where he had gone 3 days without food and water, he looked healthier then.

He was very good looking when he was young
I was shocked when i saw David Essex,in Eastenders
,wouldn't even have recognized him, he had such gorgeous eyes
We all get older but most are recognizable

No idea which drugs he has taken however some 'friend' of his leaked a video of him smoking a crack pipe. He lost his job at the BBC because of it, I think.

This is my issue, quick to fire these actors, how about helping them?

Hopefully, he is clean now.

The OP is about the 40ish old actor who played Joe in Eastenders - Paul Nichols. He has been in quite a few series, would have earned decent coin. He has a long standing drug addiction, with many relapses. He has now lost loads of weight, his nose has caved in somewhat and he is homeless and sofa surfing. His marriage broke up a few years back, he had a bad accident in Thailand (parts of which were a mystery). After the accident he appeared on Loose Women and his recounting of the story was odd and rambling, but he looked healthy then, quite chunky in fact. Seems he has relapsed in a major way now, just a few years after. He won't get work now. He wasn't that great an actor, but he was pretty and now that has gone he would struggle to get work, plus the word will have gone around with producers etc, he would be seen as a risk. He is the male Daniella Westbrook.

Paul Nicholas was also in Eastenders but better known for Just Good Friends when he played twinkle eyed Vince. He was also a minor pop star in 70s - Grandmas Party, Dancing with the Captain. He was a good looking guy. He is now in his 70s and whilst he still has the twinkle in his eye, he is very thin and age has withered his looks somewhat. Nothing to do with drugs, he is getting mixed up with OP due to similar names. He was on one of those Marigold Hotel series, he has a great personality. He may look older but you can still see the cheeky young guy.

Have no idea who the horse trainer is, but OP is nothing to do with him either. Unless he has been at the horse tranquillisers.

@Thirtyrock39 I think you can tell he takes/has taken a lot of drugs and drunk a lot of alcohol. It's not just aging, it's the look of a substance abuser.

He lived in Buckhurst Hill a while back, and I lived nearby..... I thought I'd bump into him and we'd end up getting married 😁

I'm now shocked Earthfasts was 26 years ago. I even asked Alexa because my brain can't comprehend that. Why does life go so fast?!

This is my new favourite saying.

I used to like Paul Nicholls, he was good as Joe in East Enders and very good looking, he is about the same age as me and I think he has aged badly.

I also really like Paul Nicholas, I saw him many years ago playing the Pirate King in Pirates of Penzance and had a bit of a crush on him.

Glanced at this earlier and told dh how sad it was about poor old Paul Nicholas, how dhs mum used to tape and keep Just Good Friends and how on earth had he fallen into drugs

None of us really know what his life is like ...appearances ( and newspapers ) are deceptive . He could be living a lovely life for all anyone knows ...with lots of friends . Pitying him seems intrusive really ...just glad no one photographs me on a bad day 😆

Please never look for work in the health and care sector, you should post your name on here for all of us who do, you have no bearings on our lives, right? and then we can go on not to care for you whenever you become ill or frail.
