Paul Nicholls - I'm so sad for him.

Posting on AIBU for traffic.

I saw a picture of Paul Nicholls the actor in the paper recently and I've never felt so heart broken for a celebrity before.

As an actor he is 'hit and miss' for me.
I liked him in Earthfast and The Biz when I was a kid and he was a kid.
Found him a bit irritating in EastEnders but I guess that was his character.
Didn't like him at all in most of what he has done to be honest.

However, seeing him in his recent pictures looking so thin and frail almost made me cry.

People were commenting on him being a drink and drugs fiend, no sympathy for him at all.

He's been in showbiz since he was 10 years old or something, he's probably never had any real friends. A few years ago the press were full of praise for him, women drooling all over him.

Now when he seems to have lost the battle to drink or drugs or is recovering from them as well as his horrific accident in Thailand, he has become an object of ridicule :(

I bet he had lots of 'friends' when he had money and acting work. Wonder where all those people are now?!

The woman he is with is being called all sorts of names for being with him, like he doesn't deserve somebody to love him.

The acting industry and the BBC / EastEnders have failed this guy. Yes, he has a responsibility for his own actions, but when you've been hooked on substances from a young age it must be hell to break away from.

It makes me sick that people like him are splattered all over posters and TV but once they are on the decline nothing is ever done to help them.

PN has lost his looks, his nose looks like it has collapsed, he'll never get the TV work he once did and now he isn't even allowed to live a peaceful life with a woman!

I hate the gutter press.

Paul Nicholas was in one of the 'real marigold hotel' type things a couple of years back, it was quite sad to see him, he hadn't aged well and he was such a 'cheeky chappie' in Just Good Friends.

Oh he was so lovely when he (I 😁) was young. A great personality, talented, clever, funny and good looking (if you like blondes) to boot.

I just googled - I mean, he seems fine. He looks fine - thin, yes but I don't know what the balls about his collapsed nose is, his nose is fine (pretty rude to suggest his looks are gone!)
His Wikipedia page references him working in theatre right up until 2019 ... something sort of happened after that that shut the theatres, don't know if you heard of it, it's not really a sign of his failing career. Plus T.V and film roles up to 2018. All of which is after the waterfall accident - so, as awful as that no doubt was, he seems to have recovered.

His girlfriend has apparently dumped him. That literally seems to be the worst thing that has recently happened to him that is public knowledge. And that is being reported in the gutter press, so whatever salacious details that come with the story need to be taken with an extreme pinch of salt. And whatever the BTL comments on any of these papers say ... well, I'm sure PN knows better than to look if it would bother him. Everyone knows what the comments are worth.

I'm for all having compassion for actors whose lives are dark and who suffer from addictions - but this thread on the back of one photo and his girlfriend dumping him is ridiculous. Not to mention pretty rude about Paul Nicholls and the way he looks, when according to the sun he was 'still smouldering at 41' sometime in the past few months.

Unless OP has a whole lot more information and knowledge of PN's private life, then they appear to be worrying unduly. And if they know something not in the public record - then they should keep schtum and not post about his private life on MN .

Believe it’s called diversion and light relief.

I’ve been in my house barring pissing rain, late night walks so as to avoid folk, for a year.
The thought of twinkly Paul Nicholas immediately put a smile on my old, tired face. The thought of him being down at heel doesn’t make me gnash my (own) teeth but does make me sad and virtually wish him well. He was a bright spark in my youth.

Suggest the news/Newsnight if you’d like some more misery ...

I agree with Pretzels - he’s thin but otherwise he looks ok, just a 41 yr old version of himself. Not everyone hangs on to their youthful appeal...but he doesn’t look nearly as bad as you’re saying.

But he toured with the national tour of Rain Man in 2019, taking over the lead role from Mathew Horne - it wasn't a fly by night nothing, it was a big role in a big production for which he will have been well paid. He was out for a perfectly happy post Christmas stroll within the last two months and described in The Sun as 'still smouldering' within the last year.

OP has created some weird fantasy in her head based on the fact that he's looking a bit skinny but, based on what is public knowledge, there is no reason to suppose he is any more 'down at heel' than the rest of us who have just suffered through a hard year of economic uncertainty.

I have no idea where the 'no friends' stuff is coming from either. How on earth can the OP possibly know that?
