Paul Nicholls - I'm so sad for him.

Posting on AIBU for traffic.

I saw a picture of Paul Nicholls the actor in the paper recently and I've never felt so heart broken for a celebrity before.

As an actor he is 'hit and miss' for me.
I liked him in Earthfast and The Biz when I was a kid and he was a kid.
Found him a bit irritating in EastEnders but I guess that was his character.
Didn't like him at all in most of what he has done to be honest.

However, seeing him in his recent pictures looking so thin and frail almost made me cry.

People were commenting on him being a drink and drugs fiend, no sympathy for him at all.

He's been in showbiz since he was 10 years old or something, he's probably never had any real friends. A few years ago the press were full of praise for him, women drooling all over him.

Now when he seems to have lost the battle to drink or drugs or is recovering from them as well as his horrific accident in Thailand, he has become an object of ridicule :(

I bet he had lots of 'friends' when he had money and acting work. Wonder where all those people are now?!

The woman he is with is being called all sorts of names for being with him, like he doesn't deserve somebody to love him.

The acting industry and the BBC / EastEnders have failed this guy. Yes, he has a responsibility for his own actions, but when you've been hooked on substances from a young age it must be hell to break away from.

It makes me sick that people like him are splattered all over posters and TV but once they are on the decline nothing is ever done to help them.

PN has lost his looks, his nose looks like it has collapsed, he'll never get the TV work he once did and now he isn't even allowed to live a peaceful life with a woman!

I hate the gutter press.

That's sad to see. He was relatively recently in The C Word (actually maybe not that recently...) with Sheridan Smith and he looked great in that.

Poor Paul. Hope he's getting the help he needs.

Having said that OP, the angst against the woman is because he moved in with a friend whos fiance left him for Paul.

Paul Nichols? Yes he quite gaunt its sad. I remember him in Eastenders.

I thought you meant Paul Nicholas and was having trouble reconciling your description with him. Having googled I can see I was completely confused but i do remember Paul Nicholls now, and the photos I can see look like he’s aged by about 20 years from when I last saw him on tv. Which would be about right ...

Aww, I agree OP- it's never nice to see someone down on their luck. Hope he finds some respite and a better path soon.

It's called sympathy.

I didn't know any of this was happening to Paul Nicholls, but it sounds like he's in a really bad place. I abhor the way the media pick over the bones of this kind of thing.

Never heard of him.so I looked him up. Apparently his friend offered him somewhere to stay and got repaid by Paul Nicholls going off with his girlfriend, mother of his two year old son. So no I can't feel too sorry for him.,

I said in my opener that I didn't even like his adult acting. If I was his new woman that wouldn't go down too well with him, would it?!

If his new woman is on Mumsnet please let us know so I can be taken off the hook.

Like I said in my second post PN reminds me of my childhood, he was on my two favourite childhood shows and as a teenager on EastEnders. He's always been on the periphery of my TV viewing. Seeing him in his recent pictures sort of made me feel as though seeing an old school acquaintance that seems to have a broken soul.

FYI - he wasn't even my childhood crush, I liked the guy that was the comic in The Biz, all my friends fancied PN though.

He looks fine to me, a little in the the thin side, but honestly he doesn't look awful at all. And there is nothing wrong with his nose

Op - understood. There is something about seeing childhood crushes getting older. Not just what it means fir them but us too ! I have to say once I’d worked out the correct PN and saw the photo from Dec I logged the daily Mail as I do every day of my life but also didn’t think he looked too bad really.

Sounds like he still has mates. Till they offer him a place to stay and he repays them by going off with their girlfriend, for instance.
