Paul Nicholls - I'm so sad for him.

Posting on AIBU for traffic.

I saw a picture of Paul Nicholls the actor in the paper recently and I've never felt so heart broken for a celebrity before.

As an actor he is 'hit and miss' for me.
I liked him in Earthfast and The Biz when I was a kid and he was a kid.
Found him a bit irritating in EastEnders but I guess that was his character.
Didn't like him at all in most of what he has done to be honest.

However, seeing him in his recent pictures looking so thin and frail almost made me cry.

People were commenting on him being a drink and drugs fiend, no sympathy for him at all.

He's been in showbiz since he was 10 years old or something, he's probably never had any real friends. A few years ago the press were full of praise for him, women drooling all over him.

Now when he seems to have lost the battle to drink or drugs or is recovering from them as well as his horrific accident in Thailand, he has become an object of ridicule :(

I bet he had lots of 'friends' when he had money and acting work. Wonder where all those people are now?!

The woman he is with is being called all sorts of names for being with him, like he doesn't deserve somebody to love him.

The acting industry and the BBC / EastEnders have failed this guy. Yes, he has a responsibility for his own actions, but when you've been hooked on substances from a young age it must be hell to break away from.

It makes me sick that people like him are splattered all over posters and TV but once they are on the decline nothing is ever done to help them.

PN has lost his looks, his nose looks like it has collapsed, he'll never get the TV work he once did and now he isn't even allowed to live a peaceful life with a woman!

I hate the gutter press.

I agree. It's sad to see drugs/drink clearly ravaging somebody.

PyongyangKipperbang · 23/02/2021 21:18

Paul Nicholas, and I was shocked when I saw him on the Real Marigold Hotel. I dont think I had quite copped on to the fact that of course he would be very old now, but he is very skinny and doesnt look very healthy. A world away from the suave charmer he played in JGF.

Faez · 23/02/2021 21:20

Well most of the daily mail comments on the article from around Xmas seem pretty sympathetic, for a change

GreenlandTheMovie · 23/02/2021 21:23

A Paul Nicholls, a Paul Nicholas and a Paul Nicholson have been mentioned in this post. I'm none the wiser as to who is being discussed, but posting about his looks on mumsnet is hardly the most caring behaviour, is it?

Devlesko · 23/02/2021 21:24

I thought Paul Nicholas too Blush

Myheadmyheart · 23/02/2021 21:25

Some people think the op means Paul Nicholas who has gone very skinny in later life although he is 76 [confused.]

FKW112 · 23/02/2021 21:25

It's Paul Nicholls like OP said

Paul Nicholls - I'm so sad for him.
Myheadmyheart · 23/02/2021 21:26

Yes a picture helps.

Blondiney · 23/02/2021 21:26

It's crack and heroin by all accounts. Probably take more than 'a square meal' to sort him out. Hope he can turn it round, there's still time.

Youngatheart00 · 23/02/2021 21:26

This is a very confusing thread!!

OldRailer · 23/02/2021 21:29

Vince and Penny, great comic couple.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 23/02/2021 21:30

Assuming we are talking about Paul Nicholls.
I met him once at an under 18s event at the local club. He was lovely. He kissed my cheek and I vowed never to wash it again. You'll be pleased to hear that I did Grin
Hes welcome to come here and I'll feed him up Grin

DeeCeeCherry · 23/02/2021 21:30

Agree. Why don't they leave the man alone? The gutter press are abhorrent in the way they gloat over misfortune. I remember how Adam Ant was mocked and hounded by the press, because he had mental health problems. I can't stand it when being horrible is seen as ok or a bit of a laugh. As if it's some kind of badge of honour, as opposed to bullying. It does seem to appeal to schadenfreude types however so it will always be news won't it.

Nohomemadecandles · 23/02/2021 21:31

Well, this is pleasant Hmm

Paul's a really nice bloke. How small people are to class a thread like this as light relief

fistasledge · 23/02/2021 21:33

Sorry, I know the intent of this thread is serious but I'm slightly wetting myself at all the confusion over Paul Nicholas/ Paul Nicholls and Paul Nicholson that seems to have got various people of different generations reminiscing of when each of the Paul's were in their prime.

Add in a trainer and mass confusion!

I used to love him in Eastenders as Joe with the one coat moaning around the square.

Anon778833 · 23/02/2021 21:33

Drug addiction can cause people to be thin. I remember him in The Biz.

What ‘accounts’? Hmm
DanielRicciardosSmile · 23/02/2021 21:34

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking Paul Nicholas. I was wracking my brains trying to think when he'd been in EastEnders.

Youngatheart00 · 23/02/2021 21:34

The Biz!!! Wow...that takes me back. I loved that CBBC 5pm kids drama slot. I won’t derail but....reminiscing now

Famousinlove · 23/02/2021 21:34

Bit rude of you to say he has no friends or imply he only had friends when they wanted something from him if you don't know him, unless he has said this himself, you have just made that up! Poor guy.

OldRailer · 23/02/2021 21:35

I wish the guy well.

Any joke I made is on me as I did think it was about the older Paul who is very slim these days and ageing of course, as I am!

fistasledge · 23/02/2021 21:36

@SugarbabyMilly

Drug addiction can cause people to be thin. I remember him in The Biz.
So can illness, poor diet, depression and other mental health issues and many other things.

I remember last year plenty of online comments about the wonderful Chadwick Boseman potentially doing drugs due to his sudden weight loss.

Very unkind to make such assumptions

DanielRicciardosSmile · 23/02/2021 21:36

OK reading the thread it seems he was in EastEnders too. Must have missed that, though to be fair since I maybe watch about 3 episodes a year thats probably not hard.

MaggieFS · 23/02/2021 21:38
