Dating as a 55 year old...will men expect me to be bald down below??

Firstly yes, I know I can't date at the moment, I do not want to date at the moment, I am covid safe! Wink

However, I am cautiously looking ahead to the summer. I have been single for 4 years, was married for 20 years before that. In my teens/twenties pubic hair was never much of an issue for anyone, I tidied it a bit to keep it in my pants but that was it! I am aware that things have changed and that a lot of women remove the lot these days. I assumed it was mostly the youngsters. Made the mistake of watching Naked Attraction last night and all the women are bald, even the ones in their 40s, 50s and 60s! I do realise that this is probably not a representative cross section of society, but even so, it has alarmed me. So, does anyone know, what are older men's expectations here?? I really want to stay au naturel! But would be mortified to put someone off because of it!

And it's not more hygienic/healthy to shave, it's less. Pubic hair is there for a reason.

This...

It's bad news that the normalisation of pube free, sold either for porn or for profit for grooming products has allowed the lie that it is more hygenic to be hair free to spread. Hair is amazing for its ability to absorb viruses etc (it's porous) until they are non viable and of course any cuts or scratches or sores from blocked follicles are upping your chance of a pathogen getting in.

My body does not resemble a child in any shape or form because l opt to remove hair. It’s personal choice. So do men look like young boys because they shave their faces?

Hair removal is nothing new either it was practiced in Ancient Roman and Ancient Greek bathhouses.

Kendodd · 23/02/2021 11:05

I actually think it would be great if we stopped shaving our armpits and legs. And as for all this "it's my own free choice" bollocks, no it's not. Our "free choice" is shaped by societies expectations of us, women are judged and talked about for body hair. Have you ever in your life seen a model with hairy legs? Have you ever wondered why that is?

I wouldn't shave for anyone. Get rid of the man not the hair. Looking like a prepubescent child is not my thing.

Yeah it was Ruskin that fainted over seeing pubes for the first time (potentially). There’s a film about his wife on Netflix called Effie Grey.

I don’t think he thought much of women in general tbf...

Hettsie · 23/02/2021 11:25

why does someone removing their pubic hair make them look like a child?

Because children don't have public hair generally. And to me, and many others, that's what it looks like.

Do you shave your legs or your armpits?

Armpits yes, reluctantly, as they start to smell really quickly otherwise.

Legs: I have never shaved my legs no.

If you have a male partner do they shave their face?

No.

If you don't like it, don't look.

Hettsie · 23/02/2021 11:31

Well it's up to you isn't it. I think shaved fannies look pre pubescent and pretty creepy. So I certainly wouldn't be shaving for anyone. If you like it, go for it. Your body your choice. I'm not setting an argument up that you shouldn't, I don't care, I'm just voicing an opinion on what I, and many others, think. 🤷‍♀️

Do you think flat chested women also look like children? Hmm

I like to keep a full 70s bush and armpit hair. Never had a problem with men not wanting to do oral or have sex because of it. The ones that do tend to have this problem usually don’t like oral in the first place or tend to be really inexperienced.
