What's the crappiest birthday you've had?

So today is my birthday! Not a big one but still has been really crappy! No presents from my hubby just a card. No cards from anyone else either. Feeling really sad & down about it. What's your crappiest birthday?

Ahhh this was me on saturday! I can relate. Feels like a real kick in the face to be honest .
Its rediculasly lame and selfish especially when it doesnt reflect how they are treated.

my 50th. In the middle of lockdown. It was lashing rain. It was a Wednesday. My mother isn't speaking to me.

But I know this will be a good decade.

Happy Birthday Op Thanks

For me, milestone birthday . I never usually celebrate due to having a birthday near Xmas. Was encouraged by friends to have a party and celebrate milestone birthday. 90% of people dropped out on the day...most with the shittest excuses and some lies. Was very embarrassed and hurt. I've gone back to only celebrating with DH and DC with cake and a takeaway. Never again.

A few years ago, we’d got the keys to our new rental a week or so before the contract at the old house ran out, so we had a bit of time to clean etc before we moved. I spent the day of my birthday, which also happened to be both Mother’s Day that year, as well as St Patrick’s Day, scrubbing mould out of the fridge and freezer seals, alone, in a house with no heat or hot water. DH and the DC had stayed in the old house to keep warm - eldest DC was very ill at the time, and DH didn’t drive, so it all made sense. Pretty miserable way to spend the day though. Especially since I didn’t get a single card or a present. I didn’t really mind doing the cleaning, it had to be done and there was only that day to do it. And I don’t usually want a big fuss on my birthday or on Mother’s Day, but I wouldn’t have minded a bit of acknowledgement and attention in the evening!

My 30th was rubbish. I was relatively new to the city I was living in, so invited basically everyone in my (tiny) contacts list to join me at a wine bar. ONE person came. It was my landlady. So awkward.

The one where my mentally ill mother forgot my birth date.

She had put up commemorative plates with our names on and had mistakenly given the wrong date of birth for mine (and made no attempt to change it either)

Lost in her own little world, she forgot and wished my a happy birthday on the wrong day.

Teenage ones. Bullied quite badly at school, so it was another excuse. I also had the joy of GCSE exams one year

As an adult, they've generally been quiet, but no outright cruelty.

My 18th sticks out for me as I had bells palsy so just locked myself away.
I do think a lot of expectations are put on birthdays and a lot of people end up disappointed. I just make sure I have a nice breakfast and takeaway/meal out for dinner and I'm happy, anything else is a bonus.

I had an eating disorder when I turned 16, so that was pretty miserable as I couldn't enjoy the food and didn't have any of my cake etc. I also remember getting pretty rubbish presents too.

Definitely the worst so far. Thankfully, the ones after that have been lovely.

My 14th birthday. Divorced parents, mum out with her bf, both dsis living away from home, no idea where my father was. Ate my dinner on my own. It's only years later I've realised how miserable that was.

My 30th was awful. My mum sent me a self help book, I had not long got married to a man and realised it was a terrible mistake (we split when I was 31), nothing was planned, no gifts or party or dinner or anything. My cat was ill and I had to spend the day cleaning up his sick.

My 40th was in lockdown and was still a bajillion times better!

Awe sending you massive birthday wishes!

Mine's a bit of a sad one. My mum died a couple of days before my 40th birthday. I spent the days after she died arranging her funeral. My birthday just didn't happen, obviously. No one quite knew how to approach me or whether to get me happy birthday cards alongside sympathy cards.

Dad died on my 16th, Grandmother on my 21st. Unsurprisingly not a fan of my birthday now.

2019, Dd woke me up hysterical about her placement for uni. Felt like a failure as a mother.

2020 I sat numb the whole day as my dad died the week before. Then no one bought me a cake.

I have high hopes for 2021!

My 18th.
I didn't expect much for my 18th birthday. I had dd1 who was 3. My brother had convinced me that my parents were going to pay for me to go to Spain with my friends(who were going) He really went on about it so much I believed him🤣.
On the day I was so excited although I didn't have a passport( my mum had arranged it) according to my DB.
My birthday party was my mum dad dd and my siblings around the back door with a burnt cake that dd had helped make and orange juice from dd's tea set.
Eventually, I told them I knew about my birthday surprise. They all laughed at me for being so stupid. Although my brother did get a slap from my mum.
I cried for hours🤣🤣🤣
