So today is my birthday! Not a big one but still has been really crappy! No presents from my hubby just a card. No cards from anyone else either. Feeling really sad & down about it. What's your crappiest birthday?

March 2020

5 days into lockdown
I had had a baby the week before so was hormonal, emotional and hadnt slept much.
My husband didn't get me anything, which we had agreed to as money was tight, but I would have liked a token gift from the kids.
Everyone else forgot my birthday because they were all occupied with the new lockdown.

My 3 year old had had her birthday a few weeks before and asked me why nobody was coming to my party.

Happy Birthday OP

Last year was shit. Dh came in from work. I had dinner ready (as usual) my mum came and moaned that she could taste margerine in the cake. Then gave me bubble bath that she said would make me itchy and laughed. No way am I going to be around this year for that crap. Off to a nice coffee shop at the bare minimum if they are open

My 30th. Everyone made such a nice effort which wasn't easy with lockdown, but I suffer with migraines and got one the morning of my birthday and it was so so difficult to get through that day!

BananaCustard85 · 15/02/2021 18:08

I've had three bad ones!

1st - had to move house on my birthday to a new town. Boyfriend at the time didn't bother get me a card, present or cake. Moving was stressful, I did most of the work packing and organising etc, I felt so taken for granted. I foolishly stayed with him another 3 years!

2nd - had to go with my Mum to have her dog put down (elderly dog who went suddenly downhill). Glad I was there to support my Mum, but no one felt much like celebrating.

3rd - beast from the east. I lived alone. All of my friends were snowed in, we had to cancel dinner and the post didn't arrive, so no cards etc. This one was sort-of funny though as well, and I did treat myself to steak, chocolate and wine 🙂

Happy birthday @MrsMagoo99!

This years. Was my 40th in January. Should of been on a trip of a lifetime. No presents, but got a card from DH. No effort made by family and no messages from friends or cards. Ended with beans on toast. My birthday has always been a bit meh in the beginning of jan but this year was shite. Sorry you had a crap one OP. Belated Happy birthday.

2019, in the middle of an amazing American road trip, I woke up VERY hormonal, read the map wrong in Yosemite and couldn't stop crying at how rubbish I was. Absolutely ridiculous, hotel that night wasn't great we ordered pizza I drank box wine and kept hubby awake with my snoring. Fantastic day all round. Blush

One when I was at uni. Went home for the weekend travelled back on the most horrendous train journey of my life. And I've been on some doozies

Involved last minute rail replacements l, making it to the last train for the day in Sheffield with seconds to spare ( no where near where I was supposed to be) it was dark and wet the entire time. Nightmare fellow passengers

By the time I got to halls I was just a crying homesick wreck

jambeforeclottedcream · 15/02/2021 18:23

Oh and Happy Birthday OP Thanks🎉

LucyFox · 15/02/2021 18:30

Well my Mum died on my birthday ... which makes birthdays bittersweet even 15 yes later ...

Bargebill19 · 15/02/2021 18:43

Happy birthday! 🎊🎂🍷

Mine was my 21st birthday. Had a lovey response from work colleagues and my partner (now DH). Flowers, chocolates and cards etc. However my mother insisted that I was celebrating on the wrong day AND I wasn’t even 21.....

After I had retrieved my birth certificate to prove I was right, I did say she should bloody well have known which day I was born on, as presumably she was actually there... or was there something she would like to tell me?
Never got an apology or a card/present from her. According to my father, it was an easy mistake to make...
Not bothered with my birthday since.

Timeforatincture · 15/02/2021 18:48

The one 5 or 6 years ago now when I had a kidney stone.

Bloody hurt!

FlurkenSchnit · 15/02/2021 18:50

My 40th. Found out the week before that my Dad's cancer (which we thought he had beaten) had spread to his liver and was terminal.

I'd had high hopes for my 40th but this cast a horrible shadow over everything and woke up on the morning of my birthday with a massive migraine and was so dizzy I couldn't walk. I had changed my plans of an elaborate afternoon tea with DH to a meal with my parents which I'm happy to say I did feel well enough to actually attend.

YesPleaseMary · 15/02/2021 19:06

My 16th, had two GCSE exams on that day.

My DH’s one year, I was having a miscarriage. So that was fun.

ShortColdandGrey · 15/02/2021 19:07

My 16th birthday. We were getting central heating installed so whole house was a mess. I woke up to the view of the bum crack of the guy who was fitting the heater onto the wall. I had a joint pizza hut birthday meal a month later with my mum and sister Grin

babyguffingtonstrikesagain · 15/02/2021 19:12

Either my 17th...first day at new 6th form college. Didn't know anyone and so nobody knew it was my birthday. Spent the whole day watching everyone fawning over the other girl who also had her birthday that day.

Or my 20th...ex's parents managed to flip their caravan on the M5.

36degrees · 15/02/2021 19:17

My 30th. Root canal that failed and ended up with my tooth being taken out. It was like a welcome to old age party.

Fanacapan · 15/02/2021 19:18

Just before a big (very) birthday my brother died very suddenly, we were close and I was devastated. We had a family holiday booked near where they lived to celebrate my birthday with kids and grandchildren. My SiL rang to tell me the funeral arrangements and asked me to give a eulogy. The date - my birthday. I didn’t have the heart to remind her so that’s how I spent my birthday, at my brothers funeral. Still miss him terribly.

TurquoiseDragon · 15/02/2021 19:25

I have a few possibilities.

When I was 12, I got chicken pox, party cancelled, I didn't get much time off school as it was over half term, I was also meant to be taking part in a sponsored swim where the guest was David Wilkie, our 1970s olympic swimmer (he was very popular at the time). Yeah, it all sucked.

Or any of several birthdays while I was with ex, who on some of them couldn't even be bothered to say happy birthday, let alone spring for a card and modest token gift to mark the day.

slavetothenhs · 15/02/2021 19:36

My 30th. It was absolutely fucking shit, had arranged a meal at the local Chinese (which I never normally did, have never made a fuss of my birthday) with close friends and family, one by one people dropped out until I got annoyed and cancelled the table. I spent the day feeling sorry for myself and in tears and then went to the cinema with my lovely DH. Ever since then I've been for a meal with DH and that's it, which has been super!

Its actually my birthday tomorrow, all I've got planned is to go and ride my horse and have an Indian. Zero expectations further than that! Cake and Flowers and Gin for anyone having a birthday soon!

TaytosandTutus · 15/02/2021 19:36

Probably my birthday last month.
DP ended our relationship a few days earlier, totally out of the blue, and I spent the day before my birthday having a total breakdown and planning to end it all Sad

The day itself was spent in a fog of extreme exhaustion

QueenPaw · 15/02/2021 19:38

Every fucking year Grin
2017 - back went, spent the day off my face on diazepam. Spinal surgery 2 months later
2019 - ghosted
2020 - Boris announced lockdown

Isababybel · 15/02/2021 19:39

My 30th last year, heavily pregnant (no alcohol) and during lockdown. Every birthday in my 20s was been spent abroad in the sun sipping cocktails..

justjuggling · 15/02/2021 20:16

My husband left to be with the OW 2 weeks before my 40th. That was a pretty crummy birthday.
