Having a photo shoot was unnecessary, regardless of their relationship to the photographer.

Why?
They need someone else to take the photo of them, otherwise how are they both going to be in it?!
It's a nice picture of them under a tree.
If Harry had just taken a picture of her in her everyday clothes looking like she'd just got out of bed, they'd have been moaned at for being scruffs and having no class or something.
They can't win.
I mean, I'm not particularly a fan of the Royal Family, but this level of scrutiny of Meghan and Harry is on another level.

I think it was inevitable they'd do Oprah at some point but I'm surprised they are doing it now.

Any interview is bound to have an element of "poor us" re: "why we left the RF" and even with the joy of a new baby, from a PR POV I don't think that's a good look for them (as two wealthy people locked down in a $14m+ mansion) whilst we are still in the grip of pandemic.

It's also (yet again) at odds with their stated desire for privacy. They've released multiple statements about why they did what they did. What is the need to say any more about it? It's just an opportunity to open up old wounds that should be given time to heal not constantly prodded and poked.

I'll bet the courtiers in BP will be working overtime to to get a preview of the interview and get a media response plan in place.

It’s baffling, isn’t it? I have no interest in “royals”. I’m pleased to see that a couple who suffered a fairly recent loss are now looking forward to hopefully a healthy birth. The photo, which would be lovely whoever the parents were, shows a well advanced pregnancy and I wish them well, as I would generally.

Why shouldn't they send one out themselves on their terms instead of others doing it for them?

Again, I think people are confusing privacy with the notion of consent. I think that they want to have some type of public presence, but they want to have more control over it. And considering the level of misogyny and racism, veiled and not so veiled, that Meghan has experienced, that desire to have it more on their own terms is entirely understandable.

Also I didn't know until now that Zara Tindall was expecting again! Saw it mentioned at the bottom of an article about Harry and Megan's baby.

Zara and Mike Trindall announced their third was on its way 2 weeks after Meghan announced her miscarriage I believe.
