The problem is without the royal connection, Meghan is just a former soap actress and Harry is just a loveable prat

Maybe they just met each other and fell in love?
Enough to get married?
They always look happy together from the photos I've seen, including the most recent one where they're together and announcing a new baby.
Takes something to automatically think she's "just a soap actress" and wanting connections.

for MM, plus a UN ambassador who has worked with Head of UN, presidents of countries...................

H is born into RF, so that's like saying William is what without the royal connection?

Mockolate, I don’t believe either her or Kate accidentally fell in love with a Prince. Which is fine. However with the Netflix deal and Winfrey interview on the cards plus her love of private jets and celebrities I think it’s fair to say she wants to keep up that lifestyle. In order to keep that lifestyle they will have to keep up the celebrity interest in themselves. I don’t know how they will do it without the royal connections. I think this is why the Queen is so worried, and with the Duke so poorly I feel sorry for her dealing with this at 94.

It doesn't make sense that they said they wanted to step down as senior royals because of the 'intense scrutiny' by the media but are now doing a 90 minute Oprah interview? It's like an oxymoron.

K&W constantly take and publish pictures of their kids. Any paper thinks will sneak up and take a pictures of them, they will be sued to smithereens, you understand?

It's called consent.

BettysButtons · 19/02/2021 21:57

I didn’t blame them for wanting to step back and create a more private life for themselves.
They could have done just that and disappeared pretty much from public view.
I thought that was what they planned and then comes a Netflix show/Oprah interview...
WHY????

somethingonthecarpet · 19/02/2021 22:03

Interesting Mummy195, I'd not thought of it like that. So they don't want privacy so much - they actually do want publicity - just that they want to be the ones who choose what is shown. Like a controlled facade.

Mockolate · 19/02/2021 22:07

Surely that's better?
To control what's put out there by yourself?

Mummy195 · 19/02/2021 22:08

They made their statement clear that they will be working with international, indie and other small publication.
That they wanted to hide away from publicity is a lie that Piers Morgan repeats.

Do you call K&W family photoshoots and all other controlled media releases by the RF a controlled facade too?

Samcro · 19/02/2021 22:11

@Quirrelsotherface

I honestly don't see how anyone can truly support this couple anymore. Does no-one think it odd that Meghan's personal wedding guests, seated at the front of the church, were Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney?! People she didn't know well. To me it says everything about what her plan was from the start.

Also notice how the likes of the Obama's won't touch them with a barge pole and even those who were openly supportive at the beginning, Beyonce and Jay Z spring to mind, are awfully quiet these days.

Who do you suggest should have been there. Daddy who sold her too the highest bidder. Step sister who sees her as a cash cow. Not every one has family that they are proud of.
Samcro · 19/02/2021 22:13

And all this faux sympathy for the queen, but none for a woman who gave birth very recently....go mumsnet

somethingonthecarpet · 19/02/2021 22:15

I don't call the family photos a controlled facade but I do call these TV interviews controlled facades, yes. That includes Prince Andrew's recent one, and Charles' and Diana's ones back in the day.

Coronateachingagain · 19/02/2021 22:15

@gottakeeponmovin I care about the charities that had to tag along with this pair for a whole Covid year. So much for walking on eggs, caught in the cross fire. Not good for any charity.

YardleyX · 19/02/2021 22:18

In the statement today, they are literally arguing back to The Queen. In public!

That poor old lady who has literally devoted her entire life to serving her country must be crushed.

It’s so sad. I think there will be regrets in the future.

I think it’s unusual not to put out a joint statement or the same statement, which makes me think that it’s not very amicable behind the scenes.
YardleyX · 19/02/2021 22:23

Yes, absolutely agree. There does not appear to be anything amicable about it.

Harry knows what releasing a statement directly arguing with the queen would do to that family.

How much longer does he have with his grandparents alive? I’m not sure he’ll be happy with these decisions in years to come.

Coronateachingagain · 19/02/2021 22:24

@Quirrelsotherface 😅 exactly

Mummy195 · 19/02/2021 22:24

Never heard of the palace putting out a joint statement with anyone outside one of the Palaces. They have never done this even with the government.

YardleyX · 19/02/2021 22:25

Also never heard of anyone putting out a public statement arguing with a palace statement!

You mean like all the interviews done by the RF members over the years? Like Zara, PC, Andrew, Anne etc.
Mummy195 · 19/02/2021 22:27

There is no argument here.

Just a plain out statement, stating facts.

Since the subject is them, would be strange if they are not the ones putting out a statement.

Coronateachingagain · 19/02/2021 22:28

@somethingonthecarpet controlled facade. That's it

Roussette · 19/02/2021 22:31

He's hardly 'arguing' with the Queen. I felt there was a part that was a bit snippy in the Queen's statement, but won't go any further into that..
However I do take issue with her being 'a poor old lady'. That's a bit of a stretch...

DenisetheMenace · 19/02/2021 22:31

WTAF wants “the world at their feet” when they can have a committed relationship with a partner they love deeply and a happy, balanced family?”

Ask Meghan?”

Oh, I take it all back, I didn’t realise she was your confidante. 🙄

This is becoming more surreal post by post.
