She won.

Why oops?

If I understand it correctly, she has won part of the case so I assume there will still be a hearing for the rest.

AdelaideK · 11/02/2021 18:54

Oops? Did you want her to lose?

MyOhMySimon · 11/02/2021 18:55

Sarcasm.

I don't understand why you are saying oops, even sarcastically?

BIWI · 11/02/2021 19:00

Fantastic. Why anyone, anywhere would think it would be OK to publish a private letter I have no idea. And why it should have gone to the high court is beyond belief.

Covidcorvid · 11/02/2021 19:00

Guess it’s ooops from the daily mail point of view.

I’m glad she won.

BIWI · 11/02/2021 19:01

The Daily Mail/Mail on Sunday are both scum. I even hesitate to use the word 'newspaper'. Toilet paper is more apt.

FlibbertyGiblets · 11/02/2021 19:02

Thank you, sorry to be thick.

Am pleased for her, too.

Squarepigeon · 11/02/2021 19:02

Excellent.

I’m so glad they weren’t allowed to drag this out further.

morninglive · 11/02/2021 19:03

I don't like her very much, but pleased she has won. A private letter should remain private, and it was a disgraceful of her father to sell it to a newspaper.

Blacktothepink · 11/02/2021 19:03

Good!

BIWI · 11/02/2021 19:05

Whether you like her or not is irrelevant.

BlueTimes · 11/02/2021 19:08

It’s not a win from what I can see, despite headlines suggesting otherwise. There will still be a trial as only part of the claim has been found in Meghan’s. I’d imagine the paper will appeal because the more it’s in the media the more clicks they generate which equates to revenue for them.

The data protection claim is also still outstanding and the question over whether there was a co-author of the letter will be determined in court.

Someone very important has obviously intervened and had words with the judiciary.

Surely the queen can only forget a very important conversation she had with someone until the eve of a court hearing once? Grin
AlternativePerspective · 11/02/2021 19:13

Good.

The mail are the lowest of the low. And the people who read them for this kind of salacious gossip aren’t much better.

Anyone who thinks that someone’s private business should be plastered all over the tabloids should take a long hard look at themselves and remember that anyone could publish something private they wrote if this became commonly accepted. It’s just that most of the people who read this trash aren’t noteworthy enough that anyone would care about what they had written in their private correspondence.

Squarepigeon · 11/02/2021 19:20

Imagine if they paid such close attention to Prince Andrew’s personal correspondence ...

WildHorsesRunInMe · 11/02/2021 19:54

Excellent news

Rubbish. If they were going to do that they would not have let it get this far.
HermitsLife · 11/02/2021 19:57

@Squarepigeon

Imagine if they paid such close attention to Prince Andrew’s personal correspondence ...
But that would require actual journalism
LunaHeather · 11/02/2021 19:57

That's good news, a judgement in favour of privacy.

Port1aCastis · 11/02/2021 20:00

Good!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/02/2021 20:00

It was a summary judgement on the point. The Mail had no prospect of winning on the privacy point. It was a letter between a parent and child surely that must carry an expectation of privacy.

MangoWeetabix · 11/02/2021 20:01

Good for her

ChonkyChook · 11/02/2021 20:02

Good.
