I don’t think I’ll ever hear of a baby Gary.

I know two adult Gary’s and both are in their 50’s now

Judith

Soubriquet · 11/02/2021 13:26

I know a young Judith!

She’s 4 now

I think the name gained popularity after the walking dead

Arthurs are everywhere these days but Arthur would have been a very niche name choice 30 years ago. Basically the names of our parents' generation sound naff to us but grandparents' names sound cool.

I came to say Gary! I can't see David coming back either (baby Dave!). Even Christopher seems on the out
David is still a popular baby name here in Scotland. It is still in the top 100 names.

I love Gertrude and seriously considered it for dd. I once worked with a really lovely, vivacious Trudy. Not a close friend but someone who gave the name a really positive impression.

My teenage DC have contemporaries called Keith, Peter, Russell, David, Christopher, Frank.

I wouldn't hold much hope for Gaynor making a comeback.

If the horror that is Wilfred is suddenly fashionable again, surely anything is possible?

Agreed. It's such an ugly name. But Wilfs abound.
BaggoMcoys · 11/02/2021 13:34

Gary came to mind when I read the thread title before seeing your op. I can imagine many of these names may have a resurgence in the future, though am less sure on ones like Fanny, Dick, Gaynor, etc.

LouLou789 · 11/02/2021 13:34

When I had DS1, the programme Neighbours was incredibly popular and all the other babies on the ward were called Scott, Jason and Kylie

BaggoMcoys · 11/02/2021 13:36

I do know a Lettice in her late 20s, but everyone calls her Letty. I was surprised when I found out what it was short for as I'd never heard the name!

Always see my name in these threads! I've spent a lifetime not liking my name but made peace with it in my late 30's!

What I find strange is I keep thinking people are saying my name but they are actually calling on a little Gracie

Tracy = naff & Gracie seems to be popular but sound so similar to me!

I think names go in waves as quite often they are calling people after relatives in the family.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 11/02/2021 13:38

Frank, Prudence, Maud, Mabel, Elsie - all back
Nancy - really popular!

I bet Horace will come back.

My son had several David’s in his class it is still very popular here.
