What names do you think will never be revived?

I don’t think I’ll ever hear of a baby Gary.

I know two adult Gary’s and both are in their 50’s now

Sorry to lower the tone but Fanny or Dick are never going to be popular names again.
I’ve seen in new editions of “The Faraway Tree” series that the characters have been renamed Franny and Rick.

LizBennet · 11/02/2021 13:13

I know a toddler Derek, and my friend’s 10 year old is named Damien.

kateybeth79 · 11/02/2021 13:13

I never thought the names Alfred, Arthur and Albert would come back, but I know quite a few now!

Soubriquet · 11/02/2021 13:14

My great nan wanted my mum to name me Fanny....my maiden name was Hare Hmm

They'll all be back, eventually, OP. The ones people are listing are mostly names that just haven't been gone long enough yet and still feel screamingly naff, give them time, and I've no doubt that even Keith, Bernard, Nigel, Malcolm etc will be back.

And some of the names mentioned on the thread are already being used -- I know of quite a few young Mauds and Enids, for example.

LolaSmiles · 11/02/2021 13:16

I've taught several teenage Garys and Ians in the last few years.

I think there's a window where some names become dated, and after enough time passes they become retro/unusual and get used again.

@ConstanceMoss

Kevin Lorraine
My colleague has just had a baby, and they used Lorraine for the middle name! That said, the first name was Mabel, so I guess they like older names (and Mabel has already made a comeback, so who knows...)

Isobel? Really?

I would have thought that was quite modern

There are a ton of Isobel's in dc school at the moment. I know more Isobel's than I do Isabelle/Isabels
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 11/02/2021 13:21

I'd love to know if anyone is still naming DDs Daenerys after the way that went down.

OccultGnuAsWell · 11/02/2021 13:22

Has anyone come across an Edna lately? That was a name I associate with my older relatives - I'm 59 so the generation born 1920/30's.

Apologies to anyone who has an Edna in the family by the way, I think my negative opinion is coloured by the ones I knew rather than the name itself.

Desmondo2016 · 11/02/2021 13:23

I know children with tons of the names listed in here. Admittedly not Gaylord, Dick or Fanny though!
