I don’t think I’ll ever hear of a baby Gary.

I know two adult Gary’s and both are in their 50’s now

When DH and I were teens he was embarrassed by his first name and said was very happy he was always known by his second name. Fifteen years later and our son who had the same first name as his DH was one of 3 in his class!

I was born in 71 and I'd never have guessed as a child that Grace would come round again. I knew no young people with the name at the time and considered it an old lad's name

Misericordia · 13/02/2021 15:49

Lady's

Cuthbert
Humphrey
Lettice

CamborneMaid · 13/02/2021 16:46

@billycat321..aww Cuthbert,actually sounds quite cute.

I'm nearly 50 and over the last maybe 20years,I've felt really self conscious when telling people my name.
I knew it would be in this thread Grin
It does make me feel sad that so many 'hate' it or think its an 'awful' name. But the more I've seen it in this thread, the more I think actually..its quite a nice name. Many will not agree lol

I can honestly say that I don't hate anyones name, because it is JUST a name.

My names Tracey
And from today I'm happy that's my name

Also,VIZ was Tracey and Sandra..not Sharon.

TurquoiseDragon · 13/02/2021 16:57

@RoseAndRose

It's because Myra was such an uncommon name, and so must people didn't know any and there are no other famous ones. So the sole association is one of the most notorious child murderers the country has ever had.
But another generation, and she'll be largely forgotten about.

The name will come back then.

TurquoiseDragon · 13/02/2021 16:59

My middle name is on here, but my first name never makes it into the lists of popular names, so never really becomes unpopular. It's just not very common in the first place.

Janet
Joyce
Jean
Barry

LightDrizzle · 13/02/2021 17:03

Oh god yes! Wayne! Definitely.

Irmeli

ChilliChaos · 13/02/2021 18:02

@CamborneMaid I think Tracey is a lovely name.

I’m guessing it will come back in 10/15 years but spelt Tracie.

Clayder · 13/02/2021 18:08

Grace Kelly's character in High Society was called Tracy. So it was initially seen as being a very sophisticated name. I imagine it might well come back into fashion in 40 years or so. Ruby is a currently very popular name that would have been considered very down market by the time it last went out of fashion 80 years or so ago.

midsomermurderess · 13/02/2021 18:28

Jean and Janet will definitely make a comeback. And quite soon I'd say. Joyce too I'd bet.

jumpyturtles · 13/02/2021 18:41

I love Jean. Also like June and Jane. Lots of the names here are lovely

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/02/2021 18:54

My DDs middle names are Jean and Joyce. We nearly named DD1 Jean.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 13/02/2021 19:00

I've always loved the name Tracy. Don't know why. Also, Mary.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 13/02/2021 19:02

You need to come to south London if you've never met a young Arthur or Margot Grin.

terrywynne · 13/02/2021 19:09

Praise-god, Fear-god, Obedience, Anger (basically most of the unusual Puritan names...)

Lettice, Douglas (for a girl)

FrankIsAce · 13/02/2021 19:10

@Soubriquet

I also think names like Frank won’t be coming back. But at the same time, people like Frankie instead Confused
I beg to differ @Soubriquet. My son's a Frank and he's not the only one we know......
Libraryghost · 13/02/2021 19:14

I had a great aunty Dorcas and another called Honora. I thought that were hilarious when I was a kid but I kind of like them now!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 13/02/2021 19:16

Both my children have middle names that have featured on this "never again" thread. And my husband was Gary until he changed it at 18.

HermitsLife · 13/02/2021 19:22

I like Dorcas and Honoria.

Its worth bearing in mind that many children are named after grandparents or great grandparents so I can see names like Janet and Jean or Ian and Barry coming back in fashion.

Lettice is a strange one, I read it in an Agatha Christie book and imagined it would be pronounced Le-teece, like Leticia which I quite like, but no it Lettice, just like the salad Confused

Mindlesspuzzles · 13/02/2021 19:22

@terrywynne , I came across an Obedience (my surname) when researching my family tree. Don't think that one will come back.
Have however recently met a young Praise-god though..
