In terms of vaccine choice, I got Sinopharm (I'm not in the UK) and that has very little data compared to Pfizer or AZ but it seems to be generating antibodies in people who have been tested for them. As you say I couldn't tell you any of the brands of any of my other vaccines. But I could tell you most of DSs so I can see the urge to research. I got stuck in a panic research loop last night trying to find something to reassure me but only getting more stressed. Next time I need to remember to put my phone down.

I know someone who had to have Oxford rather than Pfizer because of allergy issues. But in general most people I know aren't bothered. I'm still not keen on having a vaccine at all, but I wouldn't want Pfizer, because it's new technology - I feel like Oxford is safer - though rationally I'm aware they're both really probably safe.

Iheartmysmart · 22/02/2021 07:30

I’m dreading the grand ‘announcement’ today even though most of it seems to have already been published.

Dad had the Pfizer vaccine and was fine, mum had the Oxford one and was poorly for a few days afterwards. For some reason I thought it would be the other way round.

Nearly time for a new thread! ADs picnic in the park with Twinkle the Tortoise?

Mrsfrumble · 22/02/2021 07:50

I’m so selfish, but literally the only thing about today’s announcement that I care about personally is Y3 going back to school on the 8th. DD is adamant she’s not doing any more homeschool after having half term off, so the next 2 weeks are going to be hard enough. I’m scared they’re going to prioritise KS1, and leave everyone else til after Easter because “it’s only a few more weeks”. Those few more weeks will feel like a lifetime if DD spends them rolling round on the kitchen floor wailing about having to do literacy...

Blobby10 · 22/02/2021 07:52

The people I know who have had a reaction to the vaccination have had the AZ one - but it's only women who have had the bad reactions.

SirSamuelVimes · 22/02/2021 08:24

I'm the same, @mrsfrumble while I would love to have a more optimistic timetable than I think BJ is going to announce, if I can get my DD through the school gates on the 8th I will put up with waiting for the rest. Really hoping there won't be any kind of phased returns. I want to be less self centred about it but I've run out of emotional steam.

Just looked at today's work for her from school. She has to write a diary of what she did in her half term. Err... Watched Netflix in her PJ's?? I mean we did do some stuff but there were definitely a couple of days where she just sat around and vegetated with her iPad on her lap and junk food in her face. I actually think it was good for her to switch off completely for a bit but I don't think it'll make for excellent reading!

chocolatesweets · 22/02/2021 08:27

Pregnant sister was over on the weekend. She said she wouldn't be coming over again in a hurry as she was so stressed.

She works from home. Has no kids running about and has all the time and a double income to do the house up.

I want to tell her to not f**ing bother next time.

I feel like it's my fault I'm so stressed but nearly all of my social support with twins has disappeared. We can't visit toddler groups, we can't afford nursery and over the weekend the weather was awful - we couldn't even go for our daily freeze walk.

I'm trying to climb out of this hole but I don't have time to think about my sister as well (I feel like she needs me to consider her every time she comes over).

I just want to be left alone for half a day.

SirSamuelVimes · 22/02/2021 09:08

There's a thread about the school return running at the moment, aibu, if you don't want to send your kids back then homeschool. Loads and loads of frothing on the comments but the votes are about two thirds in favour. The tide had definitely turned.

TabbyStar · 22/02/2021 09:11

The Times is reporting all schools back on the 8th.

Mrsfrumble · 22/02/2021 09:13

I want to be less self centred about it but I've run out of emotional steam.

Yep, you’ve hit the nail on the head! Of course I feel desperately sorry for the hospitality industry and small independent shops and salons etc. and hope for their sake they can open ASAP. But I feel as if I’ll only have the headspace to care passionately about it once DD is back at school.

BogRollBOGOF · 22/02/2021 09:26

Home school resumes...
Computer 1 finally repairs itself.
DS1 continuing last night's meltdown over the kitchen chair. (Did have the chair with arms to stop him sliding off the side, but he was developing a habit of sitting on the arm, then kicking off when told to sit IN the chair. DH has swapped the chair to a standard one which has gone down like a bucket of sick)
DS2 now needs retrieving back to the kitchen.

A class of 7-8yos asked what they did over half term and only 3 had anything that they wanted to share.

Iheartmysmart · 22/02/2021 09:28

I desperately want schools to go back, not because of DS as he left last year but I can see the harm it’s doing to your children and those of my friends.

Selfishly, I’d like to be able to see my friends and family indoors, not trudging round some cesspit of mud laughingly referred to as the local park in the pissing rain. And for pubs and cinemas to reopen, I can probably cope with the loneliness of working from home if there was something to do outside these four walls.

BogRollBOGOF · 22/02/2021 09:31

And it's not selfish, it's self preservation and meeting basic human needs.
rosettesforjill · 22/02/2021 09:32

BBC are saying schools confirmed to go back on 8th - all years. I'm so looking forward to having DS back (he's currently with PIL 200 miles away so DH and I can carry on working). He has handled everything with such maturity given he's only six - but I'm so sad that he's had to do so!

(The maturity begins and ends with resilience to lockdown restrictions, unfortunately 😂)

mightbealittlebitmad · 22/02/2021 09:42

Why are people so reluctant to accept life has to return? I don't understand. Do they want to stay in lockdown forever but can't for various reasons so are shouting and screaming about it not being safe in the hope we will stay in lockdown?

I want my life back now, I'm past caring about safety. If the vaccines don't work or there some random mutation then so be it, if it gets me it gets me, at least I've lived instead of hiding.

chocolatesweets · 22/02/2021 09:43

@mightbealittlebitmad I think they do. They have someone to blame then for the negativity in their lives.

Iheartmysmart · 22/02/2021 09:50

I can’t help but picture all those clamouring for lockdown to continue and agreeing with each other on keeping the schools closed threads looking like the late, great Rik Mayall in The Young Ones.

This made me smile!

I have struggled this weekend, in all senses. Woke up feeling a bit more positive this morning and it is lovely as ever to catch up on this thread and receive a dose of sanity and realism!

Yes! Even though I wasn't allowed to call her Twinkle! There was another name after Twinkle but I was told it sounded like a porn star name and I was banned from using that in no uncertain terms. Meanies!
SirSamuelVimes · 22/02/2021 10:06

Oh I definitely vote for twinkle the tortoise in our thread title.

flower11 · 22/02/2021 10:07

I think in some cases people like their lockdown lives and see them as better, others the government has terrified and there is no way back.
My year 3 is doing the bronze age today , it's quite interesting, then poetry and some maths. They haven't set anything for the youngest so she is having a massive strop. I think most parents are fed up of trying to get them to do the work now.

Buzzinwithbez · 22/02/2021 10:17

Apparently we'll be allowed to meet one other person not just for exercise and even to sit on a bench with them from 8th march.
I was slightly ahead of the curve yesterday when I met a friend. We sat on the river bank on her coat and as it had been a spontaneous thing, I shared her bottle of water as I hadn't brought a drink.
You couldn't fit another teenager on the skate park and we struggled to find a space in the overflow carpark. It was glorious!

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 22/02/2021 10:22

@Buzzinwithbez yep, I have been ahead of the curve with that one too, as has a large chunk of the nation I reckon, at least in my bit of it.

I went out for a run last night, and saw some kind of boozy nocturnal gathering going on in the (closed) park. I was desperate to jump the railings and join them!

Gratefulrunner · 22/02/2021 10:41

I didn’t even realise that sitting on a bench was not allowed, oops.

Whilst I feel happy about all the upcoming announcements etc I also no longer trust the govt and BJ after all the U turns and false promises. I’ll believe it all when I see it!!

Curlygirl06 · 22/02/2021 11:05

I sat on a bench drinking coffee with my friend when 2 PCSO's walked past. I was waiting for them to say something but they didn't!
