How many sausages per person with bangers and mash? Are we a greedy family?

Bangers and mash for dinner tonight (I'm having soup because I'm trying to lose weight) and I was wondering what a normal portion looks like to other people? DH and my 16 and 18yo sons will eat at least 4 sausages each with a big pile of mash/peas/gravy. They would eat more sausages if there were more available! I remember when I was a child we were given 2 sausages each, but then I remember being very hungry as a child and meals often weren't generous enough (cup a soup and two slices of dry bread as dinner for a 9yo, for example).

So - how many sausages?

Dh - 1
Me - 2
19yr old son 2–3
Dd who is 17 - 0-1
Ds2, 15 yr old - 1

With mash and veg or beans

I eat the Richmond vegan sausages I have 4 they seem quite small or I am probably greedy!

Very timely! We had sausages mash and beans yesterday (delicious rare event) and only had two sausages each. I would have liked more; I can’t deny it. But we’re trying to eat healthily.

3 each for me and dp. I buy a pack of Tesco's Finest sausages, only six in the pack.

Dp and ds 11 will eat 4 each and I eat 2. We have richmond, I hate meaty chewy sausages.

Depends on the sausage. The ones I buy loose from the butcher are quite big, so 2 per person. If I buy the packed ones, even organic, from the supermarket 3 per person.

It also depends on what else was eaten on the day, sometimes dinner is smaller when we had a larger lunch or cake in the afternoon.

I did sausage and mash for me and my teen boys yesterday and I did 2 each. It never occured to me that wasn't normal. Surely a pack of 8 sausages is a family meal?

DH has at least 4. He's lean and muscular. Normally we wouldn't have a carb element though, but he'd still have 4 if we did. He can eat lots and is in great shape.

I would have two sausages, but three peoples worth of mash. DC (7 and 3) would have two each and leave everything else, DH will eat however many were left in the packet and the kids leftovers

Mr three year old eats two and asks for more! 7 year old eats three. I usually have three but could eat more!

Jaysus - it depends on the size of the sausage does it not? 2 big ones or 3-4 small ones per person with possible bigger portion for DS23

Depends how big the sausages are! For average supermarket sausages, I would say two are enough (with veg and mash). If the sausages are particularly tiny, then 4 seems very reasonable. if they're the massive farmhouse sausages our butcher makes, then 1 is more than enough!

DD (7) will have 2 small or 1 large, DP will have 3 if small, or 2 of the fat ones
