How many sausages per person with bangers and mash? Are we a greedy family?

Bangers and mash for dinner tonight (I'm having soup because I'm trying to lose weight) and I was wondering what a normal portion looks like to other people? DH and my 16 and 18yo sons will eat at least 4 sausages each with a big pile of mash/peas/gravy. They would eat more sausages if there were more available! I remember when I was a child we were given 2 sausages each, but then I remember being very hungry as a child and meals often weren't generous enough (cup a soup and two slices of dry bread as dinner for a 9yo, for example).

So - how many sausages?

A portion is 2 sausages. Any more than that is greed.

Each to their own though.

Chipolatas probably 4, fatter sausages 2 or 3.
I remember taking DS to a BBQ when he was 2 and he ate 7 sausages.....and nothing else!Blush

My dp had 12 sausages for his breakfast two weeks ago and I've still not gotten over it.

2 each - although I'm really not keen on sausages so will probably just eat 1 (decent quality ones). Any left over usually DH eats or go in the fridge for sandwiches or pasta sauce next day. Me and DH are overweight so really don't need to eat loads 😬

Duvetstay · 10/02/2021 17:41

I get the 10 pack from Heck and dh and I have 3 each and primary age dc have 2. They always moan though that we get more!

I don't think 4 for active teens is too much.

I'd quite like 4 but am very sedentary at the moment!

dudsville · 10/02/2021 17:41

When i used to eat meat sausages I would cook the pack and have them in the fridge - they never lasted the day.

I love veggie sausages (I'm not a vegetarian) but I find it easier to stick to two.

Soontobe60 · 10/02/2021 17:41

The sausages I buy tend to come in packs of 6, fat sausages. DH is veggie I’m not so i buy a pack of each and we have half a pack each. DH would have more if I cooked them, but fills up on mash and beans 🤣

sadpapercourtesan · 10/02/2021 17:41

That's very prescriptive @gamerchick, are you this definite about many things in life? Grin

Crosstrainer · 10/02/2021 17:43

I’d eat two, but DH would eat 4

MadameButterface · 10/02/2021 17:43

@NuniaBeeswax

Four sausages? faints A forkful of potato and a lick of gravy would be enough to see me through the day. This is why we have an obesity crisis, think of the NHS, etc.
Grin Grin Grin

a whole forkful of potato you say? you fat cow

Mylittlepony374 · 10/02/2021 17:43

My husband would wolf down 5 or 6 at least. I would have 2. Toddlers one each.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 10/02/2021 17:43

2 sausages for me, 3 for teen DC. 150g potatoes, 1/3 tin of beans an 200g of other veg. I have an extra portion of veg instead of the 3rd sausage

Wyntersdiary · 10/02/2021 17:43

2 sausages and I'm obese sooo I'm quite surprised people would normally eat more than 2 :O I would feel sick haha but I'd say for a man 3 sausages seem right

Suzi888 · 10/02/2021 17:44

2/3 max. We have quorn though, they aren’t as filling as meat according to DH.

notangelinajolie · 10/02/2021 17:44

2 each.

For me maybe, but for a large man, no way. He will eat 4 and a normal amount of mash.

Mine would be 2, and a lot of mash.

PurpleDaisies · 10/02/2021 17:44

Usually three (veggie ones) each here.

pourmeanotherglass · 10/02/2021 17:45

If standard size not chipolata then 3 for me and DH, and 2 Linda mcartney each for for teens.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 10/02/2021 17:45

When there were 5 of us id buy 2 packs of 8. Typically dh and 2 teen would have 3, I'd have 2 And the toddler 1.
Now there are 3 of us and I buy 12. 4 each for each of us! That toddler is now a teen.
Basically we never leave a sausage uncooked or uneaten

boredwiththeoldname · 10/02/2021 17:45

4 adults here and we have 3 each. Mainly because they come in packs of 6 or 12. I'd be happy with 2. Any more than 3 is just being greedy if you ask me. Fill them up with extra potatoes and veg, or do what my parents did and put bread and butter on the table as well.

WishIWasAsGoodAsBlueysMum · 10/02/2021 17:46

Probably 3 for me, 4 for DH, 1 for DS(2).

That’s revolting 😂

Unless you’re talking little cocktail sausages?

GintyMcGinty · 10/02/2021 17:46

2 each

SlipperTripper · 10/02/2021 17:46

We buy a 12 pack, three each for me, DH and dsd15, 2 for DSD9 and half each for DDogs, who get very miffed if they're not included

notalwaysalondoner · 10/02/2021 17:47

2 nice big chunky sausages or 3-4 chipolatas. And I wouldn't say we have small appetites. I would expect more for teenage boys though.
