How many sausages per person with bangers and mash? Are we a greedy family?

Bangers and mash for dinner tonight (I'm having soup because I'm trying to lose weight) and I was wondering what a normal portion looks like to other people? DH and my 16 and 18yo sons will eat at least 4 sausages each with a big pile of mash/peas/gravy. They would eat more sausages if there were more available! I remember when I was a child we were given 2 sausages each, but then I remember being very hungry as a child and meals often weren't generous enough (cup a soup and two slices of dry bread as dinner for a 9yo, for example).

So - how many sausages?

3 each. (Mainly) Decent quality meat ones for DS2 and me. Veggie ones for DS1.
We could probably all manage more but I think more mash and veg is a better way to fill up.

ChrissyPlummer · 10/02/2021 17:31

2 1/2 - DDog has the other half Grin

Crakeandoryx · 10/02/2021 17:31

2 each DH would probably have 3.

3 max, and I have a 6' 3 son with an appetite I can't keep up with.

QueenPaw · 10/02/2021 17:32

2 or 3 depending on sides/hunger

Minty82 · 10/02/2021 17:32

DH and I would have two. DC (8&6) would have one.

Bcnamechanger · 10/02/2021 17:32

Two usually, but I know it's tight. BUT dteen boys and DH eat two kilos of potatoes with them. Buy 2*6 packets and if there are leftovers they get cold sausage sandwiches - the choose to have 2 so they get more cold later.

PotteringAlong · 10/02/2021 17:32

2 sausages each. I just freeze the ones we don’t eat Confused

HaroldMeeker · 10/02/2021 17:32

2 or 3 for me, depending on how hungry I feel, and 3 for husband, with his heap of mash much bigger than mine. If it's baked beans to go with it, he gets more than me, but if it's veg I divide it equally as I love my veg.

HaroldMeeker · 10/02/2021 17:33

Leftovers are used in a pasta dish next day, if they survive lunchtime..

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 10/02/2021 17:34

They would come in bigger packs if you were supposed
To eat 4 each .. usually they are 6 or 8 which indicates the portion for a normal 4 person family .. I could eat 4 on their own but I choose not to .. also I only eat veg sausages which I imagine are less filling .

woodhill · 10/02/2021 17:35

Just 2 each

Pollaidh · 10/02/2021 17:35

2 each. DH and DC have really good quality sausages from butchers, I have cauldron veggie sausages. If one DC eats slightly less, someone else might have 2.5 or 3. DH and DC do a lot of sport but don't seem to feel the need for more.

Couple of tablespoons of mash, plus half a plate of vegetables.

hushlittlebabydontsayaword · 10/02/2021 17:35

I'd have 3 if I was really hungry otherwise 2. DH would have 3.

Lelophants · 10/02/2021 17:36

2 sometimes 3 but we also have lots of veg e.g. carrot, peas, mash, broccoli.

I might nab another one later but yes I'm greedy 🤭

Crockof · 10/02/2021 17:36

2 but they want more ,however always make Yorkshire puds to go with mash to fill them up

scoobiedoobiedoo · 10/02/2021 17:37

I have one, my husband two my 13 year old would eat two my nine year old one, with mash potatoes and veggies two should really be enough, I have never eaten more than two, my husband would stuggle to eat three.

applespearsbears · 10/02/2021 17:38

2 each if decent meat sausage, 3 at a push if veggie. Sausages are very high fat/calorie processed food so don't consider it healthy ( it's why they taste soooo good)!

Sexnotgender · 10/02/2021 17:38

I’d do 2 each.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/02/2021 17:39

3 or 4 here for adults. I'd eat 4, DH would say 3 or 4. I'd cut back on mash before sausage.

Woodlandbelle · 10/02/2021 17:40

For a man or growing teen girl or boy I would give 3

Quartz2208 · 10/02/2021 17:40

DH (high metabolism perfect BMI) would have a huge portion of mash and at least 5 fat sausages. DS would have 2 or 3. Its harder now it comes in 12 - so we tend to buy 12 thinner sausages and its 8/9 to 3/4

I used to have 2 pork but now DD is veggie we share 6 linda mccartney sausages between the 2 of us and that feels much better

MissDollyMix · 10/02/2021 17:40

Well this is like how long is a piece of string! Totally depends on the sausage. 8
I’d say 2 for adults if really nice chunky sausages, maybe 3 if they’re the smaller supermarket type. 4 if they’re chipolatas. I do love a sausage!

BoogieFeet · 10/02/2021 17:40

2 real or 4 veggie sausages here

superram · 10/02/2021 17:40

Depends, 10 pack of tesco finest-3 kids and I 2 (I’d like 3 but I’m fat), dh 3, spare one for sausage sandwich the next day. 6 packs is harder as you have to get 2 packs, we could all eat 3! I wouldn’t give them 4 as we couldn’t afford it and I’d rather not have a shit frozen sausage.
