How many sausages per person with bangers and mash? Are we a greedy family?

Bangers and mash for dinner tonight (I'm having soup because I'm trying to lose weight) and I was wondering what a normal portion looks like to other people? DH and my 16 and 18yo sons will eat at least 4 sausages each with a big pile of mash/peas/gravy. They would eat more sausages if there were more available! I remember when I was a child we were given 2 sausages each, but then I remember being very hungry as a child and meals often weren't generous enough (cup a soup and two slices of dry bread as dinner for a 9yo, for example).

So - how many sausages?

1 sausage between 6 of us. The other sausage will be divided up and made into a casserole, put on sandwiches, stirred in a risotto or bunged in a curry and the leftovers from that will feed the dog for a month.

In the real world, probably 3 each with bangers and mash.

PurpleDaisies · 10/02/2021 18:03

@rawalpindithelabrador

And mash? Are you trying to kill everyone by poison? CARBS are death. You need to serve sweet potato mash, with kale, naturally. Bless you, OP, for you have sinned.
Where are you getting this rubbish from?

Mash is fine.
Sausages are fine.

Just not every day.

Mamagotskills · 10/02/2021 18:04

Decent sausages? Probably 4 for DH, 3 for me and 2 for 9 yo, 1 for 3yo

A while ago people were appalled at a MIL serving "dainty" portions for DIL and "manly" portions for Their DS. Or the idea at weddings that women got chicken and salad and men got steak (or similar)

Now half the posters "couldnt possibly eat more than one sausage" but their DH or "strapping teenage DS" has 3 or 4.
I quite often eat the same as my (non strapping but none the less significantly larger) DH but my excuse is that I am a greedy cow do loads of exercise! Blush

Candyfloss99 · 10/02/2021 18:04

2 each. Scoop of mash. Unlimited veggies.

twinmum2007 · 10/02/2021 18:05

we have 8 beteen four of us. We'd eat more though given the chance

CatherinedeBourgh · 10/02/2021 18:05

I provide 3 per person but there is always some left over. No issue, as ds loves them fried up the next day. 2 would probably be enough but I’d worry it wasn’t.

They do eat about 27 meals a day though.

AlwaysLatte · 10/02/2021 18:05

a whole forkful of potato you say? you fat cow
😂😂

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 10/02/2021 18:05

Two but we eat the Richmond meat free and they are very filling

rawalpindithelabrador · 10/02/2021 18:05

@ThenCatoJumpedOut

Rawalpindi, you ok?!

No, I'm dead from eating a cocktail sausage with a chip. But before I died, early, of course, from obesity, I cost the NHS £1bn. I'm posting from Hell. Michael Mosley is here, too, being force fed white carbs every half hour with no fasting in between Grin.

Missingthebridegene · 10/02/2021 18:06

I think it depends on the quality of sausages! If they're good quality and don't shrivel then me and the kids would have two and dp three but he could probably eat five! X

AnathemaPulsifer · 10/02/2021 18:06

Four if they’re mushroom based veggie sausages, three if they’re meat.

emmathedilemma · 10/02/2021 18:06

I usually do 3 each and for younger kids would be 2 on the plate with the option of a 3rd if they eat everything else first (otherwise they tend to eat the sausages and no veg!).

NonagonInfinityOpensTheDoor · 10/02/2021 18:07

Where are you getting this rubbish from?

It’s quite obviously sarcasm based on all the insane food threads.

Bilgepumper · 10/02/2021 18:07

Depends as well on how thick they are. I think four for teenages is about right, so long as they aren't the very thin ones.

SpiceRat · 10/02/2021 18:07

I really fucking want sausages and mash now

CatAndTheChild · 10/02/2021 18:07

6 year old DD has 1 and a half and I have 2 and a half unless theres only 6 in the pack then I'll have 3 and a half. If there's 8 in a pack I'll freeze the remaining 3 until I have 2 more to cook with them.

MadameButterface · 10/02/2021 18:07

Rawalpindi, you are cracking my shit up on this thread Grin

Oh come off it. I recognise your username so I know you've been on MN a while. That poster wasn't serious (as I'm sure you know) but you're well aware that MN is famous for competitive under eating threads and for posters pretending that they can't even look at carbs without feeling full, let alone eating them.

rawalpindithelabrador · 10/02/2021 18:08

@AlwaysLatte

a whole forkful of potato you say? you fat cow 😂😂
But not if she also served a massive salad and loads of veggies! Grin
Theotherrudolph · 10/02/2021 18:08

Pack of 12 (good quality pork) chipolatas between four here. With mash/chips and a tin of beans between us. There is occasionally one or two leftover if the youngest isn’t very hungry/is eating their own body weight in mash instead.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 10/02/2021 18:08

two per person, although if DH had his way it would be three,
i freeze them in pairs.

CouldItBeJeffrey · 10/02/2021 18:08

2 for me and 3 for DH and usually veggie ones. We're both trying to shift a few lbs though.

4 isn't greedy, especially for growing teenagers.

MadameButterface · 10/02/2021 18:09

just reading this thread has gone straight to my hips, I'm going to have to do 4 hours of hot yoga if I want to wear my jeans before whitsuntide

maddiemookins16mum · 10/02/2021 18:09

You’ll get a range of answers from ‘my teens eat a pack each’ to ‘my teens eat 2’.
We get a pack of 8 everyday Supermarket ones and will eat all 8 between 3 of us.
However, the expensive butchers ones, we get 6 and have two each.
