What TV programmes scared you as a kid?

Just as the title asks, what TV programmes scared you as a kid? I'll get the ball rolling. I'm an 80s child and I hated Doctor who. The music was terrifying and I had to leave the room. I also hated he-man. Especially when he shouts 'I have the power' in the opening credits. Bag puss also frightened me. A very large pink cat was unnatural!

Knightmare... I thought the kids got stuck there forever when they failed! images.app.goo.gl/wBcMi3xkxzaZgnun7

@ssd

The singing ringing tree
Agree... absolutely bloody terrifying. The dwarf scared the living daylights out of me but so did the bear, and he was supposed to be the good guy!!!
squishee · 02/02/2021 08:43

Chimaera
Chocky

Monkeytennis97 · 02/02/2021 08:46

Worzel Gummidge (Urgh!)
Day of the Triffids

Monkeytennis97 · 02/02/2021 08:47

Rentaghost but only Mr Meeker with his creepy moustache.

Monkeytennis97 · 02/02/2021 08:51

Ludwig was creepy but I liked it (same with Crystal Tipps and Alastair).

Murinae · 02/02/2021 08:55

Mr Ben. I found it really creeped me out.

Ibeliveinyou · 02/02/2021 08:56

Tom and Jerry

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 02/02/2021 08:58

There was an episode of Thunderbirds where The Hood's eyes flashed yellow-DS used to run out of the room prior to it happening and would not return til it was over!!! Terrifying.
DD was very scared of the Daleks but that is understandable

OhTheTastyNuts · 02/02/2021 09:00

Maelstrom
The Mad Death (? not sure this was it's name...it was about rabies?!)

I used to sit absolutely terrified while they were on!

Kids TV wise: The Muppets and Fraggle Rock. Horrible! And The Animals of Farthing Wood 😱

Lunariagal · 02/02/2021 09:40

Tales of the unexpected still creep me out today. DH still.occasionally watches them . Ugh.

CaptainCallisto · 02/02/2021 10:00

Elidor scared the absolute crap out of me. It was terrifying!

ThanksMateThanksMate · 02/02/2021 10:09

@Bluesername Thanks!!

The narrator's voice doesn't help!!

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 02/02/2021 10:22

Joe 90 - the spinning cage scared me witless.
And for some strange reason, the arrows on the opening credits to Dads Army terrified me.
Especially odd, as from a very young age I've never been bothered about blood and guts!

Solongsugar · 02/02/2021 10:38

Thought I was the only one! Thought I'd been oversensitive ! Doctor who, The Muppets, anything puppet , anything sci-fi. I was then wary of children who like it! Can't watch horror and never grew out of being grossed out by creepy programmes.

RaraRachael · 02/02/2021 10:52

Not complete series but particular episodes.
An episode of something I think was called Adventure Weekly that had an old woman hiding in a windmill - gave me nightmares for ages
An episode of Skippy that had Aboriginal people playing didgeridoos to get a young girl back home - can't listen to the sound of a didgeridoo ever since

and these are from the mid 60s

cherrypop86 · 02/02/2021 11:10

The Wombles, The Riddlers and Itsa Bitsa ( I think it was called). It had a weird robot man in a glass case.

SquatBetty · 02/02/2021 11:30

That farm safety film 'Apaches' from the late 70s. Absolutely terrifying and I can still recall some of it now. But it has meant that I have never drunk Paraquat nor fallen into a slurry pit and drowned so it clearly worked!

RoaryLyons · 02/02/2021 11:34

Mumra from Thundercats!

squishee · 02/02/2021 12:10

And stig of the Dump!

And yes Wurzel Gummidge and all those weird spare heads lined up on a shelf.

DilysMoon · 02/02/2021 12:11

Dr Who, The Incredible Hulk, Worzel Gummdige Shock all of the public information films. The Triffids. Threads- that they made us watch in approx y8/9 I can't imagine making mine watch that now, I was terrified for years!
