What TV programmes scared you as a kid?

Just as the title asks, what TV programmes scared you as a kid? I'll get the ball rolling. I'm an 80s child and I hated Doctor who. The music was terrifying and I had to leave the room. I also hated he-man. Especially when he shouts 'I have the power' in the opening credits. Bag puss also frightened me. A very large pink cat was unnatural!

There was some hideous public information film about what to do in the case of nuclear war! A bloody nuclear bomb wiping out houses. Not sure if I remember it clearly though, but it scarred me“

They were awful: one where it stops just before a child with a bare foot steps on a broken bottle and another one by a pond where death in black robe with scythe waits patiently for the kids to drown.

@Miljea

What was the theme thing with a figure rising up out of a musical box with triangular flaps that opened to reveal that figure? Another figure turned a handle, or winch to make this person rise up out of the musical box? Was it something related to Watch with Mother, or Trumpton/Candlewick Green?
That was Camberwick Green - can't imagine anyone being traumatised by Camberwick Green Grin. Although I hated Bagpuss and Ivor the Engine so who am I to judge!

a) it has a clown ; and b) that figure (of the day) has been inside a dark box...... alone.

Gives Miljea a reassuring pat. Nothing bad can happen when Brian Cant is in charge

Tom Baker really gave me the creeps in the 70's, especially in The Book Tower, the music was terrifying (and his manic smile with those teeth)

Steptoe and Son, when Harold used to gurn

Charlie and the Chocolate factory with Gene Wilder, when Augustus Gloop gets stuck in the pipe, I had that image for years!

Holothane · 05/02/2021 20:04

Worzel Gummidge definitely!

The opening titles from Tales of the Unexpected, with the music, and that silhouetted woman dancing in front of the flames. Ugh.

Also, Judith Chalmers. I don't know why I'm scared of her, but I always have been. The Wish You Were Here music frightens me, because it always meant you'd have to deal with seeing Judith, in a minute.

Elderflower14 · 05/02/2021 20:42

An episode of Bergerac from the 1980s that was a Christmas special.. It was really spooky and had a monk that kept appearing all over the place... I watched it again a few years ago and it still scared the crap out of me!!

Threadgood · 05/02/2021 20:46

Beaker from the Muppet Show. Urgh. I'm also scared of wind socks, and I think there's a link. But I don't know why.

Chunkymenrock · 05/02/2021 20:50

Tales of the Unexpected. My parents watched it when I was in bed and the music alone frightened me!

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 05/02/2021 20:52

@DoctorYang yes to Chocky! Terrified me!

Some spaceman thing we watched at school, can't recall.
