What TV programmes scared you as a kid?

Just as the title asks, what TV programmes scared you as a kid? I'll get the ball rolling. I'm an 80s child and I hated Doctor who. The music was terrifying and I had to leave the room. I also hated he-man. Especially when he shouts 'I have the power' in the opening credits. Bag puss also frightened me. A very large pink cat was unnatural!

@LetterFromLorah I loved Orm and Cheep so much!

@BrownFootStool It was such a lovely programme in many ways but one or two characters freaked me out! Was there a wolf with weird eyes or something?

Demon Headmaster and Goosebumps (well, I never got past the theme tune of the latter).

SpagettiHoopaloop · 02/02/2021 02:34

999 - presented by Micheal Burke on the BBC. It's the theme tune and opening graphics more than anything Wine

it's a 15 certificate and I was a few yrs younger when I saw it.

Alrassan · 02/02/2021 02:45

The Herbs really scared me and didn't like animation like Noggin the nog.

cissyandbessy · 02/02/2021 02:57

Sapphire and Steel was very sinister. Hartley Hare was terrifying and I once watched a programme about spontaneous human combustion with the image of a pair of charred leg stumps still in their slippers by an old gas bottle heater. Bleurrghh. Had nightmares for weeks.

Another Dr Who behind the sofa hider here. There's a 6 and a 8 year age gap between me and my brother's and it was their favourite programme. So I did a lot of hiding behind cushions or the whole sofa when it got too much.

@NannyR

The day of the triffids terrified me too, I remember being scared walking past gardens with tall plants. I just googled it and it was broadcast in 1981 so I would have only been 6 or 7, why on earth did my parents let me watch it???
I'm the same age and that was the one and only thing I ever saw on TV as a child that scared me. The way they walked Shock I'm pretty sure it was shown early in the evening, possibly around teatime on a Saturday. You know, once Grandstand was over and the football scores were in. I remember everyone in school talking about it, so I don't think it was unusual to have seen it at that age.
bushtailadventures · 02/02/2021 05:32

Children Of The Stones scared the life out of me, still can't bear looking at the Avebury Stones , they give me the creeps.

Yes to The Finishing Line, I would have only been 6 or 7 when they showed it to us at school. It was available on YouTube for a while and I showed it to my adult children, they couldn't believe I'd seen it in Primary school.

Mrsbclinton · 02/02/2021 05:40

The incredible hulk, when he was angry & turning green scared the crap out of me!

GettingThin2021 · 02/02/2021 05:43

Are you afraid of the dark? I used to watch it every week but it scared me every time

I was randomly terrified of Mystic Meg if anyone remembers her? 😂

LincolnshireYellowBelly · 02/02/2021 06:14

Crackerjack! I ran up the stairs crying every Saturday evening when it was announced. Too loud and chaotic for me!

Dr Who, in particular the Daleks. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

ThaimForTea · 02/02/2021 07:18

Ghostwatch! Still can’t get over them doing that and every time I hear the word ‘pipes’ I think of it still. It was awful and from memory a young man sadly took his life after it.

bellagogosdead · 02/02/2021 07:20

My first thought was The Day of the Triffids the idea that plants could come after you and that horrible clicking noise. Ugh
I was also creeped out by Moondial and The Phoenix and the Carpet.

cliffdiver · 02/02/2021 07:40

TinTin... the episode with the yeti.

I used to watch my bedroom door at night, waiting for him to come in.
