The Eichmann Show
Hard Candy
Sinister

Hels20 · 05/02/2021 17:44

Oh yes @Pyewhacket - yes, Gallipoli. I remember watching this when I was about 13 and it made me weep. I didn’t expect to enjoy a war film. But Peter Weir was a great director

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/02/2021 18:30

Apocalypse now.

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 05/02/2021 18:38

Life is beautiful
The lovely bones

m0jit0 · 05/02/2021 18:48

Fox catcher. I found it so unsettling and I kept thinking about it for a good few weeks after seeing it.

Rysimo · 05/02/2021 18:48

A Beast Of No Nation. Unapologetically harrowing and honest portrayal of child soldiers in West Africa. Never cried so much at a closing scene in my life.

HelloDaisy · 05/02/2021 18:52

Nil by mouth
Accused
The hand that rocks the cradle

Samcro · 05/02/2021 19:17

Love mettalica but can't watch the video for one, they wrote it about the film and use parts. Of the film.

bigbird1969 · 05/02/2021 19:33

seven samurai
jules et jim

colouringindoors · 05/02/2021 19:43

Some oldies...

The Champ
Kramer vs Kramer

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 06/02/2021 00:39

Gosh, so many. Off the top of my head:

Tokyo Story - makes me bawl every time
Raise the Red Lantern
In the Mood for Love
The Double Life of Veronique
The Gate of Heavenly Peace - an utterly gripping documentary about the Tiananmen massacre.
Fanny and Alexander
Un Coeur en Hiver
Days of Heaven

PeachesandCream2020 · 06/02/2021 01:20

The Lovely Bones

Eden Lake, horrible scenes in that.

Last House on the Left

I spit on your Grave which I accidentally watched one night as it automatically came on after another movie. Horrible.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 06/02/2021 01:23

Breaking the Waves
Once Were Warriors

I guess harrowing depictions of abusive relationships are what does it for me.

SlightlyJaded · 06/02/2021 01:39

Picnic at Hanging Rock
Requiem for a Dream
Midsommar
Lost Highway
Never Let Me Go
A Beautiful Mind

All of those have stayed with me.

Nailingthis · 06/02/2021 01:41

The Platform Shock

Whatwouldnanado · 06/02/2021 01:56

The year of living dangerously.
It's a wonderful life.
This happy breed.

bluet1t · 06/02/2021 11:00

Compliance

It's horrifying that it's a true story, and I often wonder how many other times he did it, or something similar has happened.

bigbird1969 · 06/02/2021 12:08

I found wolf creek really bloody horrific

Pinkflipflop85 · 06/02/2021 12:31

I've just read up on the true story behind compliance 😱

bluet1t · 06/02/2021 14:43

@Pinkflipflop85 I know!! It's almost too unbelievable to make up isn't it!

Shosha1 · 06/02/2021 14:59

Brokeback Mountain it is just a beautiful love story, with such a sad ending. Made even worse by Heath Ledger dying so young as well.

DenisetheMenace · 06/02/2021 18:36

Grave of the Fireflies. Animation, heartbreakingly beautiful.

polyjuicepotion · 06/02/2021 22:53

This thread is good but why so many sad, heavy films?
I loved "Be kind, rewind". Completely understated. And so happy.
