@colouringindoors

Arrival.

So, so much more than a science fiction film.

Oh yes! I loved that movie. So thought provoking

@MolyHolyGuacamole

A documentary - Dear Zachary. The synopsis gave me no clue to what happens, even through the movie I didn't realise what was going to happen. It's hard to call it incredible story telling, because it's just so sad.
I actually wish I hadn’t seen that one, but it’s an amazing piece of filmmaking.
WarrickDavisAsPlates · 01/02/2021 20:59

Pan's Labyrinth

Hopeishere52 · 01/02/2021 21:05

So many of these that have been mentioned, but also
The colour purple
The Piano

ReggieKrait · 01/02/2021 21:05

My god after reading WNTTAK I didn’t think I could ever have kids in case they were born evil. The book and the film are just so bleak and desperate, both upset me for a while afterwards.

Pixar’s Coco is on a lot in our house atm as my daughter loves the songs. The message about life after death is way over her head, but I’ve been mulling over it for weeks. It’s a beautiful film.

Smarties87 · 01/02/2021 21:11

Unbroken - I found it harrowing.

Hels20 · 01/02/2021 21:12

Breaking the Waves

Esther Ranzen’s That’s Life episode in 1988 with Nicholas Winton. Such a humble man. Makes me cry if I watch it.

bigbird1969 · 01/02/2021 21:13

I truly loved arrival and la la land,

Piano as someone mentioned above is brilliant . But my all time classic is it’s a wonderful life

baconbarm · 01/02/2021 21:14

Jude- watched it as a teen and wish I hadn't.
Harry Brown was an uncomfortable watch for me too.

Scarby9 · 01/02/2021 21:15

The Mission - tragic

Jagged Edge - so scary at one point!

The opening of Lost Horizon haunted me for years (birthday trip to the cinema for one of my friends)

nahdenmardybum · 01/02/2021 21:15

Blue Valentine.

I've never seen such a realistic portrayal of a relationship going sour. I love how the film was split between the heady exciting early days of a romance then kept cutting to years down the line when you can't stand the sight of each other.

I remember when it ended I just stared at the tv screen in awe.

Stationfork · 01/02/2021 21:16

Hels20 · 01/02/2021 21:17

@bigbird1969 oh yes yes! It’s a Wonderful Life! I remember thinking that I couldn’t be bothered with a black and white film. Truly wonderful.
