Welcome in ADs. Snuggle up hygge-style 'cause there ain't much going on out there for a while... except rain.

I haven't got a pussy of my own for gratuitous showing off, so I shall pretend to be Dr Evil with Mr Biggleswade Grin

Morning all! No gratuitous pics here as no animals, unless you count listening to the bouncy lab on one side or the world's most spoilt Shih-Tzu on the other!

To counterbalance my gloomy lockdown mood I've just ordered a pair of Vans hi-tops which have been produced to commemorate the Foo Fighters 25th anniversary and the new album coming out next week. A bit of Dave Grohl in my life always gives me joyGrin

rosettesforjill · 29/01/2021 09:15

I would love a cat but I am allergic - not deathly allergic but at the point that it's pretty unbearable to be in a room with a cat for more than about 5 minutes Sad

Maybe I need one of those hairless ones!

ISaySteadyOn · 29/01/2021 09:17

Sending vibes your way, @LivinLaVidaLoki. I hope he gets a place.

Worldgonecrazy · 29/01/2021 09:19

Hopefully the vaccine is reducing spread of Covid by care and medical workers. A rough calculation from where people are picking up the virus would suggest they are at least 50% of transmission, and of course, the people they are transmitting it to are the most vulnerable to serious infection.

This, combined with the upcoming seasonal drop in infection will mean that May seems a long way off.

Maybe the Prime Minister / government said May but had actually already planned to bring the date forward to make us all so happy to be free we don’t notice what a shit show we are being freed into?

110APiccadilly · 29/01/2021 09:19

I'd like a cat - we had one growing up - but DH is not a cat person. Although as the only animals we currently have in the house are uninvited and go squeak, if they continue to live with us, we might have to get a cat (oh, what a shame that would be.)

SirSamuelVimes · 29/01/2021 09:24

Disappointingly, I don't have a cat to contribute. But here's a picture of ddog instead. She's quite cat like in her laziness, but has the agility of a half cooked potato.

Fingers crossed for you Livin.

This pandemic has really brought home how shit our state funded healthcare and education systems are.

chocolatesweets · 29/01/2021 09:33

Aww cute dog 🥰

Less anger this morning, more disappointment. As a parent of a young family, I just feel let down. I feel like we've been thrown in front of the bus. I refuse to stay down though. I'm working on myself and I will succeed in life. I want to return to study and I'm currently following a fitness and eating plan. The overweight corona risk has scared me - I'm not fat but my BMI is apparently overweight 😂🙈.

Anyone else feeling this disappointment and sadness now? I've been angry for most of the year. But you can't change them.

bakingcupcakes · 29/01/2021 09:39

I hope he keeps his place Loki

SirSamuelVimes · 29/01/2021 10:18

@LivinLaVidaLoki are they making everyone reapply? Have they got too many kids or are they just doing it every few weeks as a matter of course?

Weneedmusicandtheatre · 29/01/2021 10:33

I’m angry. Have recently started therapy as I was so uptight about everything it was affecting my family interactions. A maelstrom of things for me leading up to 2020 anyway but COVID has been the shit gift that keeps on giving. Also trying to shift the weight of multiple ivf procedures and then my lockdown addition of over a stoneShock. Have definitely been self medicating with food.

Very jealous of all the dogs (I only really like to look at pics of cats) but we live in a flat with no outdoor space so...

Feel like these threads have been helping me realise I’m not mad to have changed my stance (I was quite frightened at the beginning and convinced there would be a VE Day spike.) Colleague just had COVID (in a vulnerable group) and doesn’t recommend it at all but is mostly over it in under three weeks - still fatigued but back to his sharp witted self. I feel like it is time to open up once the vulnerable groups are vaccinated. I sometimes wonder whether we would have continued trying ivf if we’d known what would transpire. My poor DC and their cousins.

Weneedmusicandtheatre · 29/01/2021 10:34

Sorry, that was long,

Really hope your DC gets to keep their place @LivinLaVidaLoki

BogRollBOGOF · 29/01/2021 10:38

I'd love two cats and a big dog. DH didn't grow up with pets, and none of his family have ever done pets. He's comparatively ambitious for having a fishtank.

We were looking into a small tank for DS1 and a hamster for DS2 but have got stuck with this lockdown.

I have a cat in a dog suit - does that count? (Greyhound)

I have a question - I have volunteered to do some shifts at the vaccination centre because I feel I can't moan about life not being "normal" if I don't do something to help the effort to get it back to normal. However, I saw on the news this morning they are vaccinating volunteers - ummmm, I don't want to actually HAVE the vaccine - I'm happy to assist others to get it, in fact delighted to do that, but I don't want it myself. a. Does this make me a massive hypocrite and b. do you think I'll be allowed to say no?

CruCru · 29/01/2021 10:59

Hi all!

Thanks for the new thread! I must admit that I was having some dark facial hair lasered and am desperate to go back. The strict, Eastern European lady said I was absolutely not allowed to pluck (can’t remember why) and I really want to. Perhaps I’ll use the dissolving cream.

CruCru · 29/01/2021 11:01

Lovely cats and dogs.

Iheartmysmart · 29/01/2021 11:05

Here’s Dcat who is sadly no longer with us. She was part Maine Coon and had an almost dog like personality. Miss her a lot.

Ooh @NeedWineNow I saw the Foo’s in New York a few years ago. They were amazing. Hopefully live music will return soon!

Fingers crossed for you @LivinLaVidaLoki

Oh poor DCat her picture didn’t work! You’ll have to take my word that she was very cute!

SirSamuelVimes · 29/01/2021 11:07

It did work, smart! She's lovely.

Iheartmysmart · 29/01/2021 11:09

Flipping heck! DCat’s picture appeared and now DDog is jealous because he didn’t get a mention so here he is.

Also cross as dd back at uni for a month now has to wear a mask outside on campus. They have lots of members of public walking through without them. This is at the same time they now have to have a weekly test to remain on campus.

Sorry I'm on my soapbox this morning Angry

Evenstar · 29/01/2021 11:40

Just had an eye clinic appointment cancelled for the second time, should have been last March.

Have had 3 large unexpected bills in the last week so feel glum about money too, especially as I haven’t earned anything since last March. We have also had to put off a planned weekend break to scout out a potential area to retire to for the third time, as we have no hope of being out of lockdown by then.

Have had some chocolate to cheer myself up, which isn’t helping with being fat and unfit. Life is just rubbish at the moment, when are we going to get released from this!

Nomnomarrgh · 29/01/2021 11:49

I don’t do cats but did anyone see M25 mouse in The Times yesterday?

110APiccadilly · 29/01/2021 11:50

@Seriouslymole I don't think it's hypocritical unless the position you'd volunteered for was to drag people in and make then have their vaccine! It's possible to be nuanced about these things. I want my gran and my ECV friend to have vaccines ASAP, because Covid really is a big risk for them. I don't want to have one myself because I'm such low risk. I've told my mum I'd have it if I were her (she's not budging, which is her right) but I'd never give it to DD (unless she was diagnosed with seeking which made her vulnerable, and by that time they had enough data for under 16s). You don't have to think that everyone should have it or that no one should.
